Pirates Perch
Relax beside the serene Nestucca River in Pirates Perch, a three-bedroom home with a wall of soaring living room windows in Pacific City. Lined with trees, the large, slow-moving river empties to the sea in the estuary of Bob Straub State Park, where you can walk miles of sandy dunes with outstanding ocean views. You’ll find Pirates Perch an ideal bird-watching spot, and an excellent launchpad for fishing and boating from your own private dock.
The living room is full of sunlight and river views from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and you’ll stay cozy with the wood stove and comfy furnishings. A fully equipped galley kitchen and dining area mean you can eat in; if you don’t catch your own salmon or crab, you can purchase dory-caught fish at the grocery across from the boat ramp at Cape Kiwanda. Three bedrooms and two full baths make it possible to invite extra family and friends to join you.
A fenced yard means the dog can come, too, and the extra-large garage gives you space to park a boat. It’s a five-minute drive to the beach, where you can comb the tidepools, hike the dunes, watch surfers, and gaze in wonder at the massive Haystack Rock offshore. From galleries, groceries and award-winning beer at the Pelican Pub, Pacific City is a great spot for a getaway, and Pirates Perch gives you all that and a sunny perch on the river as well!

The property needs maintenance.
Upon arrival, house looked like it did in the pictures. Love the location and the semi secure fence out back (Needs lighting at night). We traveled with our dogs, so this was a gem compared to most rentals in the area. We originally booked for 5 nights but enjoyed staying here so we extended to 7 nights. Chester’s market was walking distance and other shops as well. The week we stayed, it was raining. We had to maneuver the car in such a way as the driveway was flooded. We only traveled with 1 car, it fit right in the garage. We were spooked one night as we came back to the rental late and found the lock box open, garage key pad open, and the lower gated area open. Come to find out it was just the gardeners, but my kid and I searched all up and down the rental just in case. I would definitely consider renting here again, we make a trip to PC 2x a year and this was our first year renting, we usually stay at Cape Kiwanda INN or at a friends. This rental also provided a dog crate in the laundry room! I have already recommended this location to friends and family!
Where should I start? I really shouldn’t be allowed to review! The photos look way better than the actual property! We were unsure where to enter so we picked the door next to the garage. We enter into a tiny 1950’s kitchen. The “clean” put away dishes had dried food caked on them. Fine! I cleaned them all before we ate. My kids 13 & 8 were stoked to see rock band in the loft…during an ice storm it was a relief for a mama so I could unload the car and get dinner started. It did not work! During our stay, it was freezing outside and no matter what we set the thermostats too, it was equally as cold inside too. My daughter and I (mom) slept in the downstairs master. My husband and son slept upstairs. When I (mom) went to bed the whole bed smelled like horrible body odor. I know it wasn’t my 8yr old daughter and I wear deodorant but all I could suspect was she he sheets/blankets were not washed between guests. Which grossed me out, especially since I could smell the odor on me after sleeping in the bed with my daughter…on top of the blankets/sheets. The fenced backyard had tons of dog poop in it from past stays who didn’t want to clean up after their own dog. RUDE! Pluses to the home: xl dog kennel in the laundry room! Saved us having to lug ours upstairs. Fenced backyard area! My traveling dogs don’t potty on leash so the tiny yard was perfect after spending an hour cleaning up others poops from it in an ice storm. The river/personal dock! Beautiful view if you forget the house your standing in and even better if you have a boat or a kayak to forget where your staying! The deer who bed down in the yard! As southern oregon coast born and raised, I loved taking my dogs potty at 8pm to see deer bedded down in the yard! They were chill, let my nosey dog walk by to the fenced yard to potty and back inside. Probably my favorite part of stay at the house period! I left notes of issues on the kitchen counter including bedroom window blinds strung over the headboard. Unsure if it was seen by property management. However, it was available in a pinch and that I’m greatful! We made it limping into PC in an ice storm and finished xmas in netarts not having to break any kids hearts!
I had a wonderful time! House was beautiful and stocked with anything we needed! You get your own dock to use by the river which we could see the fish jump! We saw deer walk by at night which was cool! I love the decor and attention to detail! Bed was so comply furniture was cute but pretty short and was a bit of a challenge getting up l! This place is highly recommended!
The deck overlooking the river was so nice to relax on. And it’s just a short walk to the beach and many fun little restaurants. Farmers markets across the street on Sunday was a treat too.
This was a great house for a family with older kids. Being on the river was great. We had a great time being able to canoe and paddle board from the house and it was a short drive to the beach. The house is on a busy house so watch your small kids and dogs. The yard is nice for dogs though and our dog did great.
The place we stayed at looked nothing like what was represented on the internet. The outside furniture was so mildewed dirty and disgusting we could not sit on it it definitely had not been cleaned once all summer and I wasn't going to clean it for them. Cracks in the wall, broken cracked microwave, toaster only toasted on one side of the bread . TV system so complicated it took us an hour to figure out how to watch the news. The shower in the downstairs bathroom is almost unusable and I am handicapped so I could not do those stairs all day everyday and go up to the top floor to shower it was all I had to get in and out of that house once a day so I could enjoy time with my family out on the beach which was awesome the best thing about Pacific City is there Beach you can drive on for handicapped people it's the only way to go. We left town 11: 00am on a Monday and not one of the three gift shops were open, my grandkids were extremely disappointed. Of course being there with my family made it awesome our first family vacation since before the pandemic. All my kids and most of my grandkids so that made it fantastic. If it hadn't been for them and the drive on beach, the house wouldn't have even got one star
On the river and a short walk to the beach.
Nice place, good location, dogs did fine, daughter loved the floating dock
