Charming, cheerful, and bright, this darling cottage at The Rookery is an easy walk - or an even quicker drive - from the incredible white sand beach that Gulf Shores and the Fort Morgan Peninsula are known for.
As you come home from days spent swimming, sunbathing, and collecting sea shells, you'll be greeted by a screened-in porch where you can kick back in an Adirondack chair with a cool drink in the balmy breeze. Inside, you'll find an open, air-conditioned living space that brings together the kitchen, the six-person dining room table, and the living room with its flatscreen TV (one of three in the house, with TVs in the main bedroom and the daybed room as well). There's a private washer/dryer where you can leave the day's swimsuits to spin - or grab a fresh one on your way over to the community's outdoor pool and hot tub.

We are a family of 7. Vacations to us are important because its already expensive for a family of 4, let alone paying for 7. On day 1, we found 2 roaches (1 alive in the closet and 1 dead on top of the oven). We took pictures of the roaches, sent to and called Vacasa to let them know and ask about fumigation. We got a text saying we were getting a $200 tax refund and we didn’t get a call back until the next day after more happened on day 2. The kids went swimming at the pool and they came back an hour later all bit up. They said there were a bunch of little black stinging bugs. We stayed for 1 night since we had nowhere else to go. On day 2, I made breakfast and 1 roach was already on the table where we were eating, 1 came out from the closet, and 1 came down the kitchen wall from the top a/c vent. We took pictures and video, sent to and called Vacasa to tell them we were leaving. We left and stayed in 2 hotel rooms that cost $2500 more than our budget to salvage our vacation. Vacasa said they were sorry. We looked at old reviews and saw that another family had roach issues at the same location and fumigation never happened! We booked the property for 5 nights, stayed 1 night in infestation and we got charged $1778, when the total bill only said it was $978. We got refunded only $800 of our money. We’re still trying to contact VRBO to figure out where the extra $800 charge went because Vacasa said they only charged $978. I don’t recommend this location both due to pests and price gouging.
We loved our time at the Rookery. The cottage was adorable, clean, and had everything we needed for a stress free vacation! It was close to the pool which was convenient for our kiddos. Proximity to the beach was fantastic. Highly recommend!
Love the laid back feel of community and close beach access. Perfect home away from home
A very nice place, very spacious, quiet, the details that we found from VACASA very nice, thank you, very cozy rooms and clean bathrooms. What I did not like was that there were roaches on the kitchen counters, when we opened the front door we were greeted by a large c roach and another in one of the rooms, we found garbage under one of the dressers. Wi-Fi never worked. Still correcting this, I would recommend and I will rent this place again, we loved it!
The location was excellent for us since we like mostly peace and quiet away from it all. The condo was very nice and well-laid out. The pool was superb. I would have given the vacation a 5 except the unit was not very clean. But for that, we had a great time and will consider going back.
awesome place... looking forward to next time...
The house is beautiful. Well decorated and closed to the beach. The beds are small and not really comfortable. We loved that it was so peaceful. Very nice community! We had a tough time finding it. We would advise anyone who is not familiar with the area to get there when there still daylight and if it takes you through Dauphin Island know that you will need to take a ferry. The ferry was sold out by the time we got it. We lost 3 hours of driving. Overall we loved the place and we would come back again!!
Very open floor plan and just felt like home
Amazing place to stay. Great rooms and space to roam. Only real complaint is whoever did the dishes last didn't properly clean them with food still stuck to some of the dishes. Pleased with everything else tho and plan on coming back again some time. Oh forgot about the tropical storm that happened to be on our last day
The first thing that comes to mind while staying here is the comfort you feel. From the layout to the decor to the furnishings it was very relaxing and enjoyable. It has a bright and beachy feel. While the unit is not adjacent to the beach it is definitely close enough and just a short drive to Fort Morgan area gives you less populated beaches. We did have issues with internet connectivity (no wifi so could only use cell service which was only one bar most of the time). Therefore no streaming capability for Netflix, etc. While slightly inconvenient this certainly didn't diminish the time there and should be back online for the next visitor. Overall a great stay.
