Elk Rapids, Michigan
Elk Rapids - Vintage 1863 Cottage .... BEACH !! It's official, our charming home is a vacation rental ... it's named Portside Cottage AND we are proud to announce the addition of an upstairs bathroom ! Granted it's a 1/2 bath, but in an 1863 home this a major improvement !
We're located in the charming village of Elk Rapids, just 15 miles north of Traverse City, along the shores of Lake Michigan. You can boat, fish, swim, golf, bike, jog, or hike nearby. Plus there are many more activities ... parasailing, jet skiing, etc. .... shop at the quaint village shops, fine dining at any of the awesome restaurants, tour the wineries, enjoy one or all of the nearby casinos, or investigate the fine art galleries.
Portside Cottage has it all, vintage charm, a beautiful beach which is literally across the street, Wi-Fi, everything you need for a great vacation. You will find this home to be the perfect place to explore from, play at the beach, or kick back and read, watch a movie, and/or gather in the dining room for a game night. The yard is ideal for settling into a comfortable lawn chair, while enjoying a family gathering around the picnic table.

We are looking forward to hearing from you ... there is so much to do, you may end up coming back year after year !
Great old house in a prime location downtown, just across from the beach. All beds were very comfortable and you could tell they were fairly new. All appliances and AC worked great. Nice enclosed front porch to sit and enjoy your morning coffee and to people watch. Found out Harbor Days were during our week, which caught us by surprise, but enjoyed it quite a bit. Several activities immediately outside the house. Overall, a great stay and would recommend it. As described by others, the stairs are very steep. A little difficult to climb. Only complaint was that the porch had several spider webs, some very large indicating it hadn't been cleaned very thoroughly. Also, the furniture in the living room is old and has a bit of an old and dusty smell to it. Don't think I would want to sleep on the pullout couch as my allergies would not allow it.
Overall our stay was very pleasant with most detail thought of, however the only thing I would say is this house really only sleeps 4 comfortably. The sofa bed in the lounge is very, very tired and rather smelly so we had to remove the mattress and sleep on the floor.
Charming cottage with the perfect location. We walked throughout downtown, the marina, Lake Michigan shoreline and to Elk Lake. Looking forward to returning.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this wonderful old home. We still can't believe we walk out the door and across the street to a beautiful beach. Kitchen is set up nicely with all the amenities one could ask for. Having an upstairs 1/2 bath was a good addition. Just to note, there is no cable or satellite hooked up with the TV. The owner provides a dvd/vhs player with a small library. If you bring a laptop, it can be connected for streaming. It was a good excuse to unwind & unplug, and read a book. We both loved the home and hope to stay here again.
The location was prime. Directly across from Lake Michigan! New mattresses in Master bedroom and upstairs bedroom (2 twin beds). Great shower and a bonus having a washer/dryer.
We had a great stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Location can’t be beat across the road from the beach, ideal for paddle boarding. Cottage was clean, comfortable and cozy.
Great place for a family vacation with view of Lake Michigan and across the street from one of the nicest beaches around. Plenty to see and do in the area, including boat rentals, fishing, water sports, antiquing and much more! Hosts communicated well and were very welcoming. Highly recommended.
We had a great stay. The kitchen and bath are well stocked. The location is fantastic. Across the street is a city park and beach on the Grand Traverse Bay. The cottage is 1 block from the downtown shops and restaurants.
What fun! Its a walk back into the past, a fun home over 100 years old. Great front porch and lots of room inside for a group of 2-6 people. Close short walk to town. Elk Rapids is a step back in time and the house will help set the stage for that adventure. The lady who lives in back of the property is so nice and maintains a park like yard filled with flowers and foliage. We loved spending lots of time in this outdoor space. We had a wonderful time. The only downside would be the steps upstairs are very steep and would not be recommended for adults 70 plus.
