Stayed Apr 4, 2026The home is huge and great for a big group. Fairly dated and the house needs some TLC but it was very functional for our extended family to gather. Amazing views and the pool and hot tub area was great and used every day. The hall bathroom door doesn’t close. The kitchen had everything you could need, for example there were 5 coffee makers. There was also a lot of furniture for the space. Overall very much enjoyed our week. Host very responsive.

Stayed Jul 31, 2025We had a fantastic stay at this La Jolla property. The location was ideal - just a short drive to the beach and close enough to town that we were easily able to walk to shops and restaurants. The house was large and comfortably fit out group of 16, which was perfect for our family's getaway. One of the highlights was the pool - we spent a lot of time hanging out there. It was a great spot to relax and enjoy each other's company. That said, the house was a bit rundown in places and could use some updates. There were a few missing essentials like shampoo, conditioner and not having enough coffee mugs for everyone, but these were minor issues.Overall, it was a great experience. The space, location, and pool made it a wonderful stay, and with a few improvements, this place would be top-notch.

Stayed Jul 1, 2025Beautiful Views, But a Nightmare Stay – Not Worth the 12K Price TagWe recently stayed at this property for 5 days and spent near 13,000, and was an absolute nightmare for 13 of us To be fair, the home is large and the views are beautiful—those are really the only highlights. The layout has potential, and with the right upkeep, this could have been a wonderful stay. But everything else about the experience fell apart quickly. The AC didn’t work in the upstairs bedrooms, making sleep nearly impossible. The beds were horribly outdated, with coils that poked through and no supportive pillows to be found. Even worse, every bed smelled like it had been soaked in industrial bleach, making the entire sleeping experience feel off-putting and unhygienic. The grill was filthy, and we couldn't use it without scrubbing it ourselves. No instructions were provided for heating the pool, despite being advertised as heated. The lighting in the main living area was so dim it made the whole space feel gloomy and uninviting. The level of cleanliness (or lack thereof) was shocking: • Tubs upstairs had visible mold • Ants, silverfish, and spiders in bathrooms • Fold-out beds had old crumbs and leftover food • The entire property felt like it hadn’t been deep-cleaned in a long timeWorse yet, the owner was completely unresponsive a

Stayed Jul 7, 2025Spent most of our time in backyard with the beautiful view. Kids had a great time in the pool. Plenty of room in the home to spread out if someone needed some quiet time. My kids walked down to some of the stores and said it was an uphill walk all the way back so I didn't try it. Grandkids all kept telling me what a great time they were having. It was the perfect place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with family.

Stayed Jun 16, 2025Three generations of family gathered for a week’s festivities and fun. Lots of room for games, relaxing and family meals together. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well stocked with everything needed. The large heated pool was a central gathering place for barbecues and pool fun. The few requests we made of David, property management, were promptly filled. Thanks David. The area is quiet and the view of la Jolla breathtaking. We would certainly book this property again.

Stayed Apr 27, 2025Lots of room and perfect for family time gathering either at kitchen table, in living room area(s) or around the pool. And the separate bedroom/bath for each adult/couple was a plus. However, the furniture and fixtures are all quite dated and well worn. A good spring cleaning, clearing out of old stuff that has amassed over the years, and replacement/ repair of some of the furniture would bring this gem back to its primo past.

Stayed Mar 8, 2025We planned a family reunion almost 2 years ago. This property seemed ideal at the time despite the cost and the exchange rates. There was no barbecue of any use only a rusted out two burner which was not safe or clean let alone with any meaningful utility for a house that big. There were at least 3 windows that could not be closed. It rained heavily during our week and we had three leaks. The pool was great but the spa never got hot enough and stopped working properly. One toilet ran over and we were told to use the plunger which we did but the problem didn’t resolve so we used another toilet. Most of the home living area didn’t have adequate heating. We never found a kettle so we used a pot on the stove to make tea. Maybe our expections were too high. However, it is a very grand old home with lots of space which needs freshining up to match the advertisement.

Stayed Oct 13, 2024Loved the property especially the hot tub and pool. We never eat out, we cook gourmet all week. In addition we had a Private Chef cook for us one night. The Kitchen appliances were 50/50. A fabulous 6 burner Viking Stove. The refrigerator needs replacement, even though it is high-end, (a Sub Zero), it is a much older model. It had no working ice maker and we purchased a lot of ice. Also has shallow shelving compared to (today's) Sub Zeros standards. The 2 islands and kitchen table are magnificent for a lot of cooking. There does need to be better lighting in the entire house. All rooms were very large with the most wonderful furniture pieces. (Had to photo All) The pool table got a lot of action. (Was disappointed with the BBQ. as was a very small 2 burner.) Was unable to use for 7 people. Actually thought there was to be an outdoor kitchen. We enjoyed the large porch overlooking the pool and ocean. Was fabulous for enjoying martinis at sunset. Over all it is a very beautiful home and also Very private! Hope to do it again!!! Thank you!!!

Stayed Aug 14, 2024The castle in the sky was a wonderful house for an amazing family reunion. We were 15 people ranging in age from 1 to 71! The house was so homely but so spacious and well equipped with every thing you could wish for! There is everything you need in the kitchen to prepare. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were lovely too! The adults loved the pool table and everyone had fun in the pool and spa pool. The house is thoughtfully equipped with indoor games and lots of books plus tv in several rooms though we didn’t actually use any tv while we were there! There are swim towels and pool toys provided which was lovely as we were coming from the UK, Australia and Canada. The children loved the little go cart too. The area was gorgeous with great beaches, shops and restaurants. We didn’t actually meet our host David but he was very helpful. Thoroughly recommend this house and location!

Stayed Aug 4, 2024We have rented over 25 homes all over the U.S.(Hawaii) and Canada. So our review is based on a lot of rental experience. Our stay in La Jolla was very nice. The house is large, spacious and had plenty of room for our extended family of 10 ( ages 2-70). The pool was a big hit with the entire family and the views of La Jolla gorgeous. The home needs a lot of delayed maintenance- especially in the kitchen. The kitchen especially needs a deep cleaning, many dirty pans and utensils in drawers. Faucet was sealed with duct tape. There are a generous amount of plates, silverware and glasses- but few pots and pans- and those were in very poor shape and many dirty and in cabinets. There was a drawer with odd spices, but not even a salt & pepper shaker. Kitchen had no basic supplies. This was a big disappointment for us. This was a first for us in any rental- especially with the nightly rental price. Home is definitely not walkable to beach- on top of a steep sloped street. We definitely left the kitchen cleaner when we left than it was when we arrived!!
