Ostuni, Puglia
We lived ourselves in this house for 10 years, with our small children, this is why it is comfortably and individually arranged. We have a kitchen with a cooker on gas, oven, dish washer, and refrigerator. The bedroom has a double bed, the ‘children’s room’ has a 3 level bunk bed, which can be converted into a double bed. The bathroom has 2 sinks, shower, WC, bidet and a washing machine. There are no doors between the rooms, except of the bathroom door. The terrace is 300m² large and it offers places to sit under the olive trees and the grape vines. The 12.000m² large lot has about 500 old olive trees and it is completely fenced, so that pets can run about freely. There is also a travel trailer with maximum 5 places to sleep in, which is suitable especially for children. Our Trullo is ideal for guests that look for a rustic house with a wonderful natural environment and silence. Our English speaking German administrator lives in the close vicinity and she can give you good advice.
Further information: There are cheap flights to Bari, Brindisi, Rome, Naples or Pescara with hlx.com (every Tuesday from 18:00 there is the happy hour) with Easyjet, Airberlin and with Ryanair. There are convenient tariffs for cars drives as well. There are cheap flight connections with other Italian lines as well. I haven’t got further more detailed information yet. You need a car, because Trullo is located in the country side. The bike tours through Zona dei Trulli are fascinating, as you have the chance to ride through regions where there are no vehicles to bother. The next supermarket is 2 km away.
Guests’ book and directions for use: An air conditioning system is installed. In the winter, it can also be used for heating and dehumidification of the air. This heating system, combined with the warmth from the fireplace, provides a very good, romantic atmosphere in a stylish ambiance, so that the winter months are very relaxing. In Trullo there is an English guests’ book with complete directions for use. In this way, you can get precious insider tips about stores, places to visit, restaurants, and typical Italian ways. The English speaking German administrator can guide you to the house, if you make an appointment in advance. You can make the appointment on the phone. She is always available, but we invite you to read the information in the guests’ book as well, as they are always completed with new information by the former guests, so they are up to date.
Guests’ Entries: Renter Goldschmidt, Ostfildern: ‘We enjoyed the vacation week in ‘Swabian Trullo’ very much and we felt very good in your former house. It was beautiful not to have a common touristic dwelling place, but a peaceful and private atmosphere.’ Renter Zipperer, Eningen: ‚Your ‚Trullo’is really unique. The location is wonderful and the small town is also charming, with its narrow and momentarily empty streets. In Trullo I had a great time as well. The ground in front of the house, with the roses in bloom is unique. The support offered by Mrs. NN was excellent. She takes care of your house with lots of love. This is, of course very important.’
Based on the description and photos, we were really looking forward to staying in this trullo. We were sadly disappointed. The property is not actually near Ostuni but about a 30min drive away. It would be more accurate to list it as Cisternino, which is about a 5-10min drive away and quite a nice town. The check-in process was difficult, we were provided with a map with instructions written in German but no street names. We were advised the day prior that the water on the property is not safe to drink - information that should be provided in the listing as it may influence the decision to stay. The biggest disappointment was that there was no air conditioning, contrary to the listing. To be precise, an air conditioning unit is installed, with a sticker that says “broken”. The fact that the owners are aware that the AC doesn’t work and yet continue to list the accommodation as having aircon is dishonest. The listing also includes a bidet but there was no bidet. The trullo was overcrowded with too much furniture and the owner’s belongings, to the point there was no room for us to set up our luggage and comfortably move around the place. The property information folder consisted of one double-sided page all in German, again contrary to the listing. Finally, the property was not clean. There were cobwebs around windows and furniture and the floor was dirty. Outside, the table umbrella is tattered and torn and the garden is overgrown with weeds and in desperate need of care.
We had a wonderful stay at the Trullo and would highly recommend it.
