This 6000 sq. ft. converted prohibition era general store has been transformed and reimagined by an owner/architect for over a decade into a completely custom house like none you have ever seen. It was designed for entertaining & comfort.

Founded in 1921 as Laurnicella’s Meat Market, this historical gem sits on the corner of Floyd and Patterson. A remnant of its life as a meat market, the spacious second story deck extends over the sidewalk and is where Laurnicella would hang her signs to tell the neighborhood what cuts of meat she had to offer that day. The walk-in meat locker, converted into a glamorous industrial-chic bathroom, has a foot thick meat locker door door and original 1920’s colossal hinges, locks, and pulls. Shortly after Laurnicella built the property, it was taken over by “Snow” and became “Snow’s Corner Store”.
An extensive renovation, plus an addition, has given new life to “Snow’s” and created a beautiful residence full of character and charm with fantastic space for entertaining and elegant daily living.

We rented this house for a wedding we were attending in Houston. There was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy, get ready for the wedding and relax. Truly a beautiful home in a great location to everything we needed to be close to and tons of amenities available.

We had 7 people staying at the house for a week (and 2 more coming in and out). It was a perfect size for us just enough room so that everyone had some space, but still cozy. The house is funky and fun and was just a terrific atmosphere for our vacation. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner (the kitchen was perfect), had appetizers relaxing on the balconey, and ate big meals at the long table. The beds were delightfully comfortable and the house was centrally located to be able to get to just about anything we wanted within about 15 minutes. The only things I would say are that you might not like it (a) if you're an interior designer and are particular about having a beautiful place (we LOVED the decor, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea), (b) if you're a light sleeper (the bamboo scrapes on the gutter when there's wind, but it seemed only audible in the master) or (c) if you're older and might trip on uneven floors (if you're younger, you'll call it character, but if you're having trouble with your balance, you'll call it hazardous. My mom is 78 and she was fine puttering around the downstairs, but in a few more years it'll be a problem for her.) All that said though, we really did enjoy the place. Plenty of room, great location (easy access to running/walking/biking on Buffalo Bayou too), just different enough to be fun and really put you in the mood for a nice vacation. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

I am a regular HomeAway client. This is surely one of my best stays ever! First, the house is amazing. Located just a few minutes away from downtown in a great neighborhood: calm at night and so animated during the evening. Washington St has many animated bars and exciting restaurants. Second, the house is entirely decorated and renovated by an architect. The actual owners are great antique amateurs and there are many incredible art pieces everywhere in the house. Hunter, the person in charge of the renting, was more than helpful. He accommodated every one of our wishes and gave precious advice on restaurants and bars. The house is ideally made for 4 bedrooms as the 5th one is really more modest. A must have for those who need to spend time in Houston!
