Umtala House | Artful and Luxurious Spacious Home

Wonderful house set up, provision of all that we need made for an easy week to enjoy the mountains!

Five school friends (for 65years) returned today from spending the week at Umtala on our annual reunion holiday. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The beautifully restored house (from 1917) met all our needs. Umtala has a lovely mountain feel and very cosy atmosphere. We loved the front room where in the evening we enjoyed a glass of wine by the wood burning fire place. The kitchen/family room is where we spent the most time around the table enjoying each others company chatting, laughing, playing board games and cards and of course enjoying the meals we prepared in the modern and amazingly well equipped kitchen. Each bedroom was elegantly decorated and the beds, linen and doonas made for a good night’s sleep. With the central heating wherever you were in the house you were comfortably warm. Everything was spotlessly clean on arrival. So we can highly recommend Umtala.

Umtala exceeded our expectations. All our needs were anticipated and we were very comfortable through hot days and cold. The backyard is a beautiful place to picnic, with the added bonus of herbs and rhubarb. Have already booked a return visit!

We had an extended family group with 5 adults and 3 kids. It’s just perfect. Beautifully decorated. A cubby and toy chest to keep the kids occupied. Separate lounges meant we weren’t on top of each other, the big communal kitchen/dining was a great place to come together. 20 min walk or 5 min drive to leura shops. This is our third stay here - says it all!

A girls weekend away with lifelong friends. Host Josie was very responsive to all my pre-arrival questions. The house was amazing, very well equipped, clean, super comfortable and beautifully styled. Having 3 bathrooms was a plus too. There were multiple living areas and we got to enjoy all of them. Our 3 night stay saw us stay in 2 nights and out to dinner at Mr Collins in Leura Village (beautiful food) on the other night. A Woolworths Home Shop on arrival saw us waste no time in the supermarket, highly recommend if you are organised in advance. A few of the girls went horse riding & others went to the Day Spa at the Fairmont Resort. Mornings were spent walking around the wonderful walking trails the Mountains has to offer. We had a fabulous afternoon at Fashion Boutique Zoe Clare where owner Jen took us through a styling session giving us some welcome advice on what clothes work for our varying body shapes. It was so much fun. We walked the Leura Village Shops multiple times over the course of the weekend picking up some lovely fashion items along the way. Sunday afternoon took us to the Hydro Majestic Hotel in Medlow Bath where we we participated in a history tour of the hotel (90 mins). Ryan our tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared with us some amazing history on the hotel and its origins. After the tour we spent some time enjoying a few Cocktails in the Saloon Bar. Overall an awesome weekend away, we were so glad we got to enjoy it at Umtala House.

Very relaxing and comfortable - ideally located suitable for adults only and families alike. Love the decor.

The house is decorated beautifully, perfect to relax in on a misty mountain Saturday. We appreciated the stocked kitchen with ample equipment to cook & prepare our meals. Beds were deliciously warm & comfy. Our fav place was in front of the fire chatting & flicking through the arty coffee table books. We looooved our stay.

Loved this house; so cosy and welcoming, fabulous decor, super comfy beds. Would stay again in a flash!

We stayed for 2 nights, the house very well appointed. Josie's style makes for a very welcoming and comfortable house. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
