Warm Springs, Virginia
The Tannery was built ca. 1820 on Old Germantown Road, an historic central byway, which in its heyday was an important part of revolutionary Virginia and used for the exploration of the then western frontier. Constructed with handmade brick and heart pine beams, The Tannery was initially a blacksmith shop, a tannery and a relay station for riders to obtain fresh horses.
In 1997, The Tannery was updated, remodeled and furnished with antiques. Large double back porches overlook two streams, a lovely treed half acre and the Alleghany Mountains. The Warm Springs Stream flows through the rear of the property, with warm mineral water around 75-85 degrees depending on whether it has rained or the air temperature is cool. There is a small pool and waterfall for a unique soaking experience day or night. To the side of the house, a cold artisan spring trickles through watercress to meet the Warm Springs Stream.
Within walking distance, the center of Warm Springs village is a charming step back into time. The newly renovated Warm Springs Pools are a quarter mile from The Tannery. The village is 5 miles north of the historic Homestead Hotel. Wonderful restaurants are abundant including pubs. The area is also surrounded by State and National Park land with plenty of out door activities. Or just relax on the main porch of The Tannery: read, bird watch, or nap. The Tannery is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or an activity filled weekend. Come enjoy the beautiful mountains of Virginia.

We really enjoyed our stay.
We picked the perfect time to visit this beautiful property. The air was cool and all the leaves were turning brilliant fiery shades of orange, red, and yellow. Steam rose from the springs each chilly morning, and in the afternoon, we climbed in and enjoyed the warm water after a long hike at the nearby trail. Saturday evening we ate at the Waterwheel Restaurant, and it was wonderful! I recommend this property to anyone, and look forward to coming back for a longer stay. :)
We loved our weekend stay at the Tannery! The backyard stream was invigorating. Despite the morning October chill, we enjoyed the backyard water before our soak at nearby Jefferson pool. Dinner and drinks at Waterwheel Restaurant were within walking distance. The porches were tranquil with the sound of the stream. Our stay refreshed us!
Another enjoyable stay at such a quaint house. It was so convenient to several activities that we had planned. Great communication with no issues at all.
This property was absolutely amazing!!! It was like taking a step back in time, and when we walked in the door it felt like the house was wrapping its arms around us and giving us a big hug to welcome us in. The back yard and the two porches were simply gorgeous, and the creek running along the back of the property was warm and wonderful!! We will definitely be staying here again!
Wonderful stay, great firefly show at night accompanied by the sounds of the falling waters in the back yard. Great location with fantastic places to eat within walking distance.
Nice small place. Comfortable, love the yard and stream, plenty hot water, loved it! Very private. Unique opportunity to have the warm springs creek. We enjoyed it. We’ll be back!
The property advertised a private dipping pool of 90 degree water which would be a hot spring. But there is no spring on the property just a creek. House was ok but overall pricery without a hot spring. Contacted owner who said it is sometimes warm depending on the weather. That the Warm Springs Pools were up the road. We have been to those and they tend to be crowded. Our whole purpose of renting this property was for the spring. We did not stay. I had a family emergency and we had to leave not long after we arrived. I suggest the property description be changed so others wont be as disappointed as we were..
We had a magical stay at this property! Given it’s historic nature, be sure to expect lower ceilings and uneven floors. However, that only added to the magic of the location! It truly felt like being transported back in time (with the amenities of clean bed sheets and a warm shower, of course!). The spring at the back of the property truly is a hot spring. We would definitely recommend staying here. Our only suggestion would be to message the host ahead of your stay about the location of the key. Additionally, please note that the only television on the property is an old CRTV with vhs attachment. Our stay was focused on a visit to the Hot Springs and touring Bath County, so this wasn’t an issue for us.
This was an incredible experience from start to finish. The hosts were so responsive from the very moment that I contacted them. They were a complete joy to work with. The check-in and check-out process was easy and the stay was one of the most relaxing places we have ever been. We were fascinated by the history of the house. The two back porches overlooked a lush lawn with the soothing sounds of the warm springs streaming along the back of the property. The upstairs had two nice size bedrooms with comfortable queen beds. There was plenty of room in the bathroom as well. Downstairs included a cozy den/kitchen combination with a half bath. The house had such a comfortable feel with nicely appointed antique furniture and accessories and family photos. It was located at the end of a very quiet road. It was the perfect place for a beautiful stroll leading into the quaint village. There was also ample parking off of the street right next to the property. We couldn't have asked for a better stay! Many thanks to our wonderful hosts. We can't wait to come back for another visit.
A lot of historical places. Relaxing and quiet.
