Highlands, North Carolina
Featured in Southern Living, The Halsted House is situated on over an acre right off of 64 in a quaint, gated community. It is located almost exactly halfway between Highlands and Cashiers and is right around 4,000 ft above sea level! It has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms in the main house, (2 queen rooms and one room with 2 twin beds and a daybed) and the detached carriage house offers a king bed and full bathroom.
Great layout, loved the location but found some of the amenities in the home not to be up to the price per night. Better stocked kitchen, two ply toilet paper, larger towels, etc.
Cute little mountain home close to both Cashiers and Highlands!
Appointed well for comfortable use.
Our family enjoyed this house immensely! A perfect summer getaway with everything we needed.
I’ve stayed at a lot of homes in Highlands over the last 24 years and this one was my favorite. The design and decor was just as chic as it looked in Southern Living. It was also much larger than than I expected. The home sits on a very private, large piece of property with all the pretty plants, flowers and trees. It wasn’t missing a thing— not even in bathrooms, kitchen or the laundry— absolutely perfect. And it smelled good! We hope to come back next year with our children if it’s still available. I still cannot believe Whitney allows other people to stay at this place because it’s SO unique and precious. Consider yourself extremely lucky if you ever get the chance to stay here.
We had 6 women and a 3 yo together for a long weekend girls trip to just spend time together. The house was perfect for our group. It was very comfortable and cozy, but large enough to spread out. The decor is perfect and so charming, even better than the pictures. We are already planning our next trip back!
This host was so accommodating and helpful. The house is stunningly comfortable within a small private neighborhood. Plenty of porches and outdoor seating with fire pit. Nicely situated between Cashiers and Highlands. Will definitely come back!
Great area of North Carolina in a beautiful house. Will definitely be back!
Only negative is that I had to reach out for both check in and check out procedure. It was no biggie because the owner responded quickly to email then we were able to text. We loved the home and property!
In the era of McMansion second homes, the Halsted House has a wonderful rustic appeal with just the right amount of creature comforts. We went for a last minute family retreat. The WiFi was more than sufficient to allow remote work and the cabin a mere 10 minutes away from Cashiers and 15 from Highlands. If there was a shortcoming, it would be the bare bones mature in the cooking amenities. We cooked nearly every meal of our stay and, at times, had to get creative with completing a recipe. We gave this feedback directly to the owners as well. The overall feel was vintage, original, and cozy. We love the Highlands area and the house - would definitely stay here again.
