As you step into this house you will know what paradise means!
San Salvador access Information: San Sal, as it is called by locals and regular visitors, has an airport with a large runaway to support landing and taking off of large jet planes. We have two jets weekly coming directly from France and one from Canada .To get to Nassau ( from a US departure point), US Airways has good deals usually, also Jet Blue , American Airlines, United, Delta sometimes have good offers. Bahamas Air has one daily flight leaving Nassau to San Sal , you have to check since they leave at different times depending on the day of the week .Round trip ticket about $250 for adults , children up to 12 pay half) It is a 50 minutes flight.
Bahamas Air also has a direct flight from Miami to San Sal on Saturdays only.
Getting around San Sal: San Sal has several historic sites being the first landfall of Christopher Columbus' fleet. It also has the last of the manually kerosene operated Lighthouses of the Bahamas, a truly special and nostalgic piece of history brought by the British. The views from the top of the lighthouse are not to be missed. There are also caves, ruins from old plantations and cays on the northern tip where the San Salvador Iguanas live, these species are native to the area and can only be found here. Bird life is also abundant with San Sal having many salt water lakes. San Sal is served by Queens Highway which runs its entire circumference, about 60 miles. For that reason, to explore sites like the lighthouse and others, a car or a scooter is recommended (both can be easily rented) or you can take an island tour with one of the tour guides.
WIFI available at the house ( 2G and 5G )
Our stay at the Blue House was amazing. The house was just as described by Flavia and met our groups needs. The kitchen was big enough for multiple people to be in there cooking. The beach was perfect and beach toys and bikes made the stay even more enjoyable. Would highly recommend for small and large groups alike. We will definitely be returning on future trips to San Salvador.
Wonderful! As always with vacations, they never last long enough. We found everyone pleasant, helpful, and just charming. Will love to go back again.
Location on the beach with snorkeling just off was fantastic. The house was comfortable, nice fresh, clean linens and towels - gorgeous deck and great family sitting room. The 5 bedrooms and bathrooms were as described. Other areas were unfinished and outside was a mess around the sides of the house. The island itself is very quiet- Limited outside activities other than Club Med. Grocery Shopping is a little store with basic supplies only - we took in a freezer of food And loved going to Club Med to play and eat! We could not participate in any boating activities other than at Club Med as everything was booked by them. We had a storm the first day and then the sand flies came out! It would have been good to have been forewarned- research sand flies/ no-see-ums!!
Thank you so much for an absolutely amazing stay. Our family arrived and were met at the airport by Garnell who was lovely and ever so accommodating throughout our entire stay. The house was just as the pictures showed and the beach right outside the back door was incredible - not a sole in sight - the entire beach all to ourselves. There are some really beautiful reefs just off shore to explore. We purchased day passes at club Med and had great fun sailing drinking and trying to eat as much as possible to make up for the cost - worth it though. There is not a lot to do on the island - a couple of places to eat - down home, Columbus tavern and Paradis. Not a bad idea to preorder at least an hour prior - food if prepared to order and can take a while — all good though. Highly recommend the house and the island.
Had a good time at the house, it's located a short drive north of the airport and right on the beach. AC was cold, wifi worked great, and having a grill to cook on was an added bonus.
Very large place. great location. Huge back deck for grilling and hanging out. ok snorkeling right there. I would go back.
This house sits in front of a beautiful beach and pristine coral reefs. The house is spacious with nice balcony and huge terrace. We made great friends among the locals.
Our family had a great time at the Blue House. The locals were amazing, the location superb. The house manager Garnell is a lovely lady, very helpful and attentive. The house is expansive and offers great views of the turquoise waters. The beach is literally yours. At about 50 feet from shore there are coral reefs with caverns, perfect for daily snorkeling. The sand flies come at dusk and are problematic, and spray doesn't work well...should have been warned prior and done some research on how to avoid. The food is expensive and difficult to get good quality and variety (paradise island in middle of nowhere).
We enjoyed our trip to San Salvador and the Blue House was perfect for our stay. Garnell (property manager) is wonderful and she also helped us with cooking our Thanksgiving turkey (her mother cooked it for us). We enjoyed the beach! Shore dives from the back porch are lovely. Coral heads are right off the beach so bring your mask, snorkel and fins. Clean and comfortable with plenty of room and a beautiful view. Extra freezers for our fish (the wahoo bite was ON!!). The marina is about a mile south of this house and we had our boat docked there. Bring bug spray!! The mosquitos on San Sal are no joke! We used a Thermocell on the back porch at night to keep them away. Old Bahamian charm with Bahamian character. If you are flexible and enjoy a bit of adventure with your vacation then this island is for you.
Unfortunately, the Blue House has not recovered well from Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015. The house was not at all what we were expecting and looks as though deterioration began well before the hurricane. In all fairness, Flavia should have let us know this. We stayed away from the house all day everyday mostly because there was nothing pleasant to go back to. Sliding glass doors would not lock, much less open and close. AC and TV did not work. No place to wash feet after walking the beach. No hammock as pictured. Long black hairs in bathroom and shower. Dirty toilets. Clogged bathroom sink the entire time. Garnell tried her best to fix things for us but she could only do so much. Flavia, the owner wasn't able to help from NY but she SEEMED nice in response to our complaints, telling us to go stay at Riding Rock Resort. To say the least and be polite, this house was not well maintained and cared for. The island people are the nicest you'll meet anywhere. The best place to eat is next to the Juice bar at Rosemary's. She makes the best conch around. And, David across the street makes a delicious conch salad! Rent a car and find all the sites on the map but beware, many are still in disarray from the hurricane and roads to Snow Bay and Pigeon Creek are either not accessible or we couldn't find. Same for Guanhini Beach Resort. The place to go at night is Riding Rock resort, but wait until May, June or July. They were closed while we were there. When you go say hi to Peaches. I would NOT recommend Club Med unless you must have a spa treatment. Day passes are 180.00 each and only include buffets and watered down drinks. The spa is run separately and the people who run it are wonderful. Despite the condition of the house, we managed to have a good time but left a day early because we couldn't bare staying another night in a place that made us cringe. I wish this site allowed me to post pictures.
