Appel Haus is a wonderful spot for a romantic getaway, visiting with friends and family, or peaceful time on your own. Relax and unwind, or call it home base while you hike, kayak, bike, swim, fish, shop local boutiques, dine, tour local farms, whale watch, or take art or yoga classes.
The house, located in one of the sunniest areas of the island, offers lovely views of the sound, forest and pastoral land surrounding the house. We are west-facing and the sunset views are fantastic!
The main house is a 3 bedroom, 2 full bath house. The main-floor master has a king bed and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower.
The first upstairs guest room has two twin beds. There is a shared full bath with a bath/shower combo. The second upstairs bedroom has a queen bed. All guest towels and linens are provided.
There is an additional bedroom Apartment above the detached garage just a few steps away from the main house.
Its room has two twin beds and a half bath and can be booked for an additional $100 a night. Just Click the “additional bed” button, and it should automatically add in the correct pricing.
The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with all the cookware, dishes and utensils you will need. There is also a full pantry with the basics--spices, oils and vinegars and baking supplies.
There is a large dining room table that can comfortably seat 8.
The living room is circled with large picture windows to take in the view of the water, deer, bunnies and eagles. Warm up in front of the floor to ceiling rock fireplace. In the cooler months, radiant underfloor heat throughout the house keeps you cozy.

There is a fire pit a short walk away for nighttime s'mores, music and stargazing.
Just down the path are 50 happy chickens, five very friendly goats, 8 ducks and a large vegetable garden. Grab eggs for your morning omelette, and in the summer, help yourself to whatever is in season from the garden--tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and lettuce.
Outside, there is a dining table for meals al fresco, plenty of outdoor seating to take in the view, and a hot tub to soak in and stargaze.
You will have full use of the washer and dryer, including detergent and softener.
There is free WiFi on the premises
While children are welcome, if you have small children with you, it should be noted that the house sits up on a high bluff, and while there is not a sheer drop off, children should be watched closely.
There is also an open loft down to the lower floor. Small children and agile climbers should be watched very carefully. In addition, at the farm, there are two ponds--one is quite large, so kids of all ages need to be supervised.
This house is wheelchair accessible.
For elderly guests or those with difficulty moving around, the main floor of the house has everything you need--kitchen, laundry and master bed and bath.
Please treat this house as you would treat your own. It is very special to us.

The house and property were amazing. We had so much fun collecting eggs, playing corn hole, and enjoying the outdoor spaces. The house is very comfortable, clean, and well stocked.
Jennifer and her husband Chris are awesome. The property is just so beautiful. We went in the summer so Orcas is at its prime. It was my husband and 2 kids ages 8 and 10. They loved being able to see the goats and feed the chickens. Kitchen is well stocked to cook. Pots and pans are great. Sunsets are through the trees but did not make it any less gorgeous. Thanks again we will be back!
This is a beautiful property, a beautiful house, and a wonderful place to spend time on Orcas Island. The house is a little gem in the woods. It overlooks the water (from a distance, but it's a beautiful view) and is part of a larger farm that includes chickens, goats, ducks, and an orchard. Overall, it is a very enchanting place, very peaceful, and extremely nice. The owners are kind and very easy to work with. We will definitely return.
You can tell the owners are special people who have put love into this beautiful home. The amenities they provided were thoughtful and of the highest quality. My family and I had a wonderful time here.
Well, it's hard to describe. We just had the most amazing time at this beautiful property. The chickens and goats and Rosegarden and food garden were such a delight to visit daily. The chickens are prolific egg layers so do not buy eggs before coming to the island. The house was immaculate and very well appointed, Jennifer could not have been more hospitable and available even though she was in Europe at the time of our stay. Quiet, beautiful views and wonderful birds in the trees. Very healing. Town is a 10 minute drive away and Bucks Bay for seafood cannot be beaten. Just a pure delight to have been able to stay here. Thank you so much.
So idyllic. Jennifer we love you!
One of the best properties I've stayed
We have rented a number of homes over the years, Apfel Haus stands at the top of our happy experiences - a beautiful, comfortable home in an enchanted forest with an amazing water view and supported by generous and thoughtful hosts. We enjoyed happy strolls through the property, opportunity to feed the delightful chickens in the morning and take the goats for an afternoon walk. The house feels far removed from life’s hustle and bustle yet it’s a short drive to Moran State Park for great hiking and to EastSound for great shopping, dining, and Saturday’s Farmer’s Market. It was hard for us to leave!
Where do I begin with the positives?! . . . The house is beautifully designed, beautifully appointed, and has everything we needed and more. The location is woodsy and private with stunning sunsets overlooking the Sound from the deck. We sat out there a lot. And even though we wanted to escape and enjoy the woods, the wifi worked really well, and we all needed to use it at one point or another. And I ask you, when was the last time you could stay on a beautiful island in a gorgeous house that had free-range chickens and goats on the property? We had fresh eggs daily, all of the animals were friendly. Jennifer and Chris were super welcoming and available for us if we needed them. Oh, and the hot tub!! Hot and soothing. We hope to go back again some day. Thank you!
Second time staying. Had a blast!
