Enjoyed our stay and the well-equipped house.
Third time here- love it.
Loved the place because of the view. Bed downstairs comfortable but one Queen upstairs needs to be replaced for a pillow top comfortable mattress. Found a dead rat upon arrival and heard them at night along with seeing droppings. Downstairs smelled a lot like roach spray. A little outdated with one fridge not cooling and oven giving out. Place needs a little tlc. However it was spacious for everyone. And the views are amazing. Spent most of my time on top porch staring out at the lake with morning coffee and evening glass of Merlot.
Very relaxing time at a lovely property.
Our trip and stay at Stoney Bottom Lodge was nothing short of WONDERFUL. We stayed for 5 days in late April 2021 and regret not booking for 10 full days. Stoney Bottom lodge is very comfortable and large enough to easily house 12 people as advertised. However, it was still cozy and comfortable enough to make just my wife and I feel at home in this wonderful location. On our first day there we started planning our second trip to Big Lick. The views of both the mountains and lake were excellent and we spent many hours on the outside decks eating or just relaxing. We kayaked in the lake almost every day (as weather permitted) and found the grassy sloped area near the boat dock to be ideal for getting into and out of our kayaks. The road from the lodge to the lake has a couple of rough spots in it, but nothing a pickup or SUV can't handle. The road into the property is a well-built and well-maintained gravel road; however, I would not recommend it for vehicles like sports cars with very low ground clearance. Our old 1996 Buick Century would have had no problems getting to the lodge. One thing to be aware of is the water supply. As the lodges are remote water is by well and the water up there is hard with a bit of sediment in the water at first after a period of non-use. It cleared quickly just by running the water for a minute or two. We have experienced this issue in other mountain locations with wells and it's not a big deal. The water tasted fine once clear. The kitchen is well-stocked with just about every appliance, pot or pan, and utensil you might need. The first night there I regretted not bring our lime juicer, but then I found one in the drawer and all was well. Frankly, I was impressed at how well-stocked that kitchen was. As for the bedrooms, I can only speak for the room on the bottom floor where we stayed. The king-sized bed was very comfortable and the room large enough to get around the bed easily. The bathroom on the first floor was roomy and comfortable. Overall, it is a great place to stay as long as you don't need to always be going places to do things. The nearest restaurant is about 40 minutes away in Hot Springs. The nearest Walmart or other large grocery store is in Covington, about an hour away. Bottom line: Great place if you like remote, quiet, peaceful getaways. We're already planning our next trip and a trip to Big Lick will become a tradition for us.
