Oostburg, Wisconsin
Aptly named, the Crayola House where Lake Michigan hugs the property and you can see the water from nearly every room in the house. The 4,440 square foot home spans two levels with the kitchen, living room, family room, and one bathroom on the main floor including polished concrete floors throughout. The second floor has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms including the main bedroom with two balconies providing an enviable view.
The large, designer kitchen, with its island in the shape of a half-moon and gleaming stainless steel, is custom-built for lots of “cooks in the kitchen” and any home chef who likes to entertain. The wrap around patio lies only a few feet from the water, thanks to the 190 feet of private shoreline.
There is plenty of outdoor space on the 3.5 acre property on this quiet lane. Enjoy dining outside on the lakefront or in the large screened-in room with fireplace and lake views. Enjoy the outdoor shower when you come in from a swim.
The ultra-modern home graced the pages of Architectural Digest in 2007.
Oostburg is in Sheboygan County, about two hours north of Chicago and 45 minutes north of Milwaukee. The area attracts golfers to its pro-level courses at the American Club, in the company town of Kohler, just 15 minutes away.

House has everything you need for a wonderful vacation. Property manager was very helpful.
From our first contact with host, Denise, our experience with the Crayola House was perfect. We had never been to the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan, though our family has vacationed on the Lake annually for the past few years. We did not know what to expect. All we can say is that Wisconsin is under-rated! Our family of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids ages 5-8) enjoyed our stay so very much. The Crayola house is a rare gem. It is decorated exquisitely but still allows for a making yourselves comfortable and feeling at home. I only wish this was our home. The unique design and architecture is breathtaking, with stunning open views of the Lake from nearly every room. The house is well appointed with everything you need for cooking, cleaning up after yourself, and lounging. The full-wall projector television, indoor and outdoor games, and books could keep you busy for weeks. The screened in porch is ideal for working out if that is your thing; the roads nearby are great for biking and running with minimal traffic (and very kind helpful neighbors when your children have an epic bike crash in front of their house!). The most special thing about the Crayola property is the lakefront beauty. While the water is high and there is no beach currently, our children played in the sandy area and among the massive wall of beautiful rocks that lines the shore. There are stone steps down to the water where the sandy lake bottom is idea for swimming. The special thing about Lake Michigan is that the water changes so frequently — we had days of surf-able waves and glassy calm. You can hear the waves from each bedroom in the home! While you can see one neighbor, the house is quite secluded and very private. Denise, the host, and Jessica, the property manager, were amazing to work with. Denise provided so much information about the area and nearby activities, was so prompt in responding to questions (and dealing with VRBO’s system error), and was completely understanding about minor damage to a bike from the kids’ accident. Jessica checked in with us to make sure we had anything we needed. Check in and check out was super easy. In summary, I recommend Crayola house to any families or groups looking for a uniquely gorgeous home and property, and wonderful hosts. Thank you to the Poole family for sharing your home with us!
