I will start by saying that we would definitely still stay again. There were a lot of other renters in De Soto and it was nice talking to them about where they were from. But, we had some of the same issues as previous renters (steep stairs, ungrounded hot tub, grimey grill). New issue was broken ice-maker. It worked, but the manifold in the back was broken when we arrived. The broken part made the freezer and fridge doors stay open. So when we arrived, both were warm and there was water at bottom of freezer. Problem solved by just not using the ice dispenser. Staff offered to come on-site to fix the issue.
The home is very nice and on the nicest part of the island. With 4 bedrooms and 4 baths, there was plenty of room for everyone. There were TV's in all 4 bedrooms with Roku. It is close to the beach which is only accessible to the neighborhood. The boardwalk made beach access easy. There was also a wagon and plenty of beach chairs. It was great for two families. The pool was very nice as well, but the gulf was perfect during our stay. There were also 4 bikes to use. The day before we checked in, we got the code for the gate, but never for the lock box. I was on hold with vacasa for an hour before I gave up. I emailed them and they didn't respond until Thursday and the email pretty much assumed we had figured it out. 5 stars for the house, 0 for Vacasa customer service.
Two adults and our 4 teenage kids over Spring Break. Pros: 1) The house and all its furnishings are new. 2) Gated neighborhood is great. 3) Community pool, tennis/pickle ball, and beach are excellent. 4) Overall location on the island is excellent. 5) House is not extra spacious but has all the space you need. Cons: 1) There are major electrical issues with the hot tub, as one other renter noted, it is electrified and un-grounded. This is a serious/deadly danger and I would not rent here without an assurance all is fixed. If you are barefoot and touch the water you get shocked. This is a text message from the Vacasa manager: I have only been with Vacasa for a short time but I have been informed that this is a much bigger situation with underground wiring with Alabama Power throughout the community that they are replacing step by step. There have been reports of people that own their own homes and live there full time that experience a slight shock with just wet feet walking from the beach to their beach house. They drained the tub and refunded us $300. 2) We were unable to access the key to the house when we arrived. Vacasa gave us the wrong code for the key box. We got in another way, but no one from Vacasa responded when we needed help. 3) The Blackstone grill is completely rusted out and unusable, I have pics. We bought a charcoal drill and left it there. 4) There were cockroaches dying in two of the bathrooms when we got there, when we arrived it smelled of strong insecticide and I suspect they sprayed hours before we arrived and didn't wait to clean up. 5) The vacuum is broken. 6) The stairs in the front are CRAZY steep, would be challenging for young kids or the elderly. 7) Vacasa is not easily to work with. They have a text system to interact with, no one actually responds. There office on the island had a line around the building of renters having issues. I would not rent from Vacasa again. 8) The bikes sort of work, but are in really bad shape. Bottomline: we'll be back to Dauphin Island (this was our second trip and we love it there!) but we won't rent here again, or with Vacasa again.
Great house for the whole family. Easy walk to the beach. We played plenty of lots of pickle ball and used the black stone a bunch.
We enjoyed our stay at Beach Baby for the most part. We did have a few issues and I'm hoping they get resolved for others staying at this house. One was the hot tub. There are some electrical issues with the way the electricity running to it is grounded FYI. Hoping they didn't know about this before we came, so even though they are reimbursing us for the lost amenity I think it is important for others to know of this because we certainly didn't know this was a possibility. We also had issues with the internet the whole time we were there and no one works on the weekend on the island to resolve any of the issues. So good luck if you also have issues. Besides that the TV shuts off frequently by itself as you are watching. If anyone in your party has trouble walking any distance this house is not for you, very steep steps up to the house and a decent walk to the beach. Besides those issues, the house has a wonderful layout and it was very accommodating!
This was the perfect property for our family of 9! The four bedrooms and four bathrooms on each corner of the house gave us all privacy. We enjoyed having access to the beach and a pool within walking distance! We loved riding the bicycles provided around the gated community!
We felt very spoiled staying in this nearly brand new beach home for the week! You can tell that careful consideration was given to making this home comfortable for a family vacation. All 4 bedrooms were nicely sized and the 3 king beds were greatly appreciated. All furniture was nice and comfy and arranged well for enjoying time with your loved ones. We especially enjoyed the back deck and appreciated the plentiful bath towels, beach towels, and extra blankets! Our only issues: the wifi was in and out some earlier in the week and then again at the end of our stay. We called and a technician came out promptly for the initial issue, but since we were leaving anyway the 2nd time we just did without for the final night of our trip. It wasn't a huge concern for us, but something to note if you must have internet. Also, there is a broken cable on the railing on the back deck. Again, not a huge issue, but bears mentioning as it made us a tad nervous with 2 3 year olds as part of our group. We would definitely stay here again!
