South Shore House is a charming (2600 sq ft) farm house situated in the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. With over 100 feet of private frontage on Little Traverse Lake, our house is perfect for both children and adults. The lake stays shallow for awhile, and deepens for swimming, fishing, and kayaking further out. The beach area has a fire pit, outdoor chaise lounge chairs, dock, and hammock under the fragrant pines. There is a large grassy area, ideal for volleyball, croquet, and other activities. The quiet lake has different aspects with much to discover including beautiful sunset views and shooting stars.
Our home is well-appointed and very family-friendly - room enough for several couples, or two families, or an extended family. There is plenty of room for everyone to cook and eat together, find spaces to nap, read a book, play games, listen to music, or just take in the beautiful surroundings. There are five bedrooms, three full baths, a laundry room, open floor plan, cable TV, high speed broadband wireless, fully equipped kitchen, large deck, and a gas grill.

South Shore House is a stone's throw (50 yards) from Market 22 (deli, cafe, convenience store, market) and The Ugly Tomato (luscious heirloom tomatoes and local produce from a fifth-generation Leelanau farmer). We are surrounded by over 70,000 acres of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore offering some of the most pristine views in the world.
I was so excited that we Found your VRBO for a family vacation. Having spent many summer vacations on Glen Lake at my Grandparents house since the early 60’s I wanted to immerse my grandchildren in the Michigan environment. My wife found your place on line and we were so excited with being on the lake, between Leland and Glen Arbor and all the key points in between. Needless to say it was great and your VRBO provided a multitude of water boards and outside entertainment for the kids ages 7-13. The adults enjoyed the relaxing outside deck and short hops to many of Leelanau wineries and micro brews. The accommodation inside were above expectation’s and a variety of kitchen supplies were great. The kids stayed in the lake most of the time and Lake Michigan did not disappoint the beauty of the area. Thanks Again for making your home available.
My family had a terrific stay at the South Shore House. Everything about the listing was accurate. The house was large, spacious, and very clean. We cooked most of our own meals over the week and the kitchen was stocked with everything kitchen utensil we could have wanted. The knives were even sharp! The yard was spacious with plenty of room for our young kids to play. The beach area was sandy and shallow allowing them to easily play in the water, but then got deeper for others to swim in. We also took advantage of all of the yard games, canoe, kayaks, row boat, and stand up paddleboards that were available. The location is excellent with easy access to the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor (which has a great grocery store), Traverse City, Suttons Bay, and Leland. We also enjoyed the less than 5 minute drive to get to many beaches on Lake Michigan which were virtually empty every time we went. The owner was great to communicate with throughout the entire process. During our stay, he was very responsive to the few minor questions that we had. We would highly recommend this location and would certainly stay again if we revisit this area.
We were two families of four with children under age 7. This home had everything we were looking for (and more)! It's thoughtfully stocked with all the necessaries inside and out. Think laundry detergent, kitchen items galore, food storage plus *huge* pantry spaces for storing your own items! Open the toy shed to find inflatables, paddles and relaxing chairs. The lake, beach and yard were perfect for our small kids to enjoy. A pack-n-play fits in the master closet - always a great bonus. The location is wonderful, about halfway between Leland and Glen Arbor. We had such a lovely time at this home and look forward to returning.
The home was very comfortable with room for everyone but still space to find a quiet corner. The home was well stocked with everything you may need during your stay. The location was great, close to all the important places you would want to visit. Lakeside accommodations were a must and this home was perfect. The kayaks, paddle boards and row boat were put to good use. The lake was warm too.
We stayed for a week in July. The house is large and comfortable and has a large yard and sandy beach area. There is also a dock for fishing, kayaking, and watching the sunset. The home is well stocked with basics. There's a charming pub (little Traverse Inn) up the road and a great market/coffee shop with delicious pizza close by (M22). Just a ten minute drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor, Leland, and across the street from a beautiful golf course. Would stay again for sure. The only down side is no A/C. This is usually OK in northern Michigan, but given the new climate situation it can make for uncomfortable nights. (There are fans provided).
Fantastic week in beautiful, spacious home. Room for eight adults to coexist during a multigenerational vacation. A central location to Traverse City and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Extremely relaxing. Outstanding communication. Thanks, Mike!
The South Shore House is an older house that has been renovated and enlarged so that the improvements fit in with the exterior architecture and the interior floor plan keeps good communication. It is situated about equidistant from Leland and Glen Arbor and is and easy drive to Old Mission Peninsula. The house is well maintained and squeaky clean upon your arrival. It is the best equipped and organized rental we’ve ever had in terms of the dinnerware and kitchen appliances. Need anything? Search and you shall find. Not only is all the “hardware” present, but also laundry supplies, cleaning supplies, paper products, etc are well-stocked. And outside at your own little private beach and pier are watercraft—four kayaks, two paddle boards, two canoes and a row boat. The only thing the owner can’t control is the weather.
We had a great stay at South Shore! The house was spacious, clean, and neat. Mike had tons of supplies on hand. Great sand area for kids to play and lots of outdoor toys/activities. This house was beyond our expectations and we hope to rent again! Thanks Mike!
Our two families had a wonderful time at this prime location right on Little Traverse Lake, and we took full advantage of all the amenities--SUPs, kayaks, canoe, and lots of outdoor games. The cottage is a bit dated, but comfortable and has tons of kitchen & living space (and a huge master suite). Michael was a great host & stayed in close contact, going out of his way to accommodate our stay even during the uncertainty around covid.
This house had all the things we needed. We had 5 little boys 9yo to 3 yo with us. Between the sand and the paddle boards we had a great time. Lots of hiking and two restaurants close by. We have never been to Michigan before so we weren’t expecting the expensive groceries,l. If your trying to save $ I’d go grocery shopping at the Walmart in Traverse city (~30 minutes away) bs Glen Arbor. Glen Arbor and Leland (sp?) were both cute little towns near by. Little Traverse lake was so still in the mornings it was like glass. So beautiful. The house was cute and like I said fully loaded. I was glad to see it had a crockpot. Plenty of dishes. No cable but we brought our Firestick and there was an Apple TV that we could sign into Netflix with. So that worked for the kids. Also no air conditioning, but I didn’t think it was needed. Fans it every room and cooler because of the lake right there. Overall we really enjoyed this adorable house!! Mike was so fast at responding to all our emails even while we were there during the week! He was great.
