Step back into a more peaceful time at this special home on the western shore of Lagoon Pond. Poised on a knoll overlooking the water, Lily Hill offers both serenity and sweeping views from impeccably maintained grounds. Enjoy a swim at your private beach morning, noon or night; rinse off in a hot water outdoor shower on the patio. Tie your sailboat or cruiser to the longest dock on the freshwater/saltwater lagoon, which opens to Vineyard Haven harbor; use the private, deep water mooring for your yacht. From the house, you watch the sunrise across the lagoon. From the end of the dock, with water lapping underneath, you can watch both the sunrise and sunset through the trees! Choose a unique spot to propose or hold an intimate wedding: Lily Hill's elegant gazebo overlooks the water; a classic arbor is set beneath the sweeping branches of one of the largest maple trees on the Island.
Surrounded by a variety of trees and flowering plants, this classic Vineyard shingle-and-stone home is within easy walking distance of town yet invisible from the road. Depending on the season, you’ll be greeted by pink hydrangeas, white-blossom Kousa dogwoods, or flashy orange Tiger lilies - the home’s namesake flower. The interior, with modern conveniences, is historic and elegant with large, curving windows in the wood-paneled great room, dining room, and downstairs master bedroom all overlooking the lagoon.
The bed in the primary suite has a luxury-rated DreamCloud mattress; the main bath includes a recently renovated and retiled shower. There are three Roku sets (44” in the main bedroom, 55” in the great room, and 32” in the dining room), and a new HVAC system. The upstairs sitting room was completely renovated in April 2022, with new awning windows and skylights. The great room has an entirely new furniture ensemble chosen by Lily Hill’s artist-owner for comfort, support and pleasing, lively colors and patterns. The kitchen features a new, top-rated wall oven and French door refrigerator. On the patio is a table for six near the grill overlooking the lagoon.
For many years, Lily Hill was the personal project of a locally renowned master gardener. The coffee-table book, Martha’s Vineyard Gardens and Houses, (Simon & Schuster), featured Lily Hill on the cover and in a 10-page spread. The text begins, “On the shore of Lagoon Pond sits this lovely rambling house… It is both rich and warm as well as light and airy.” Now, leave your everyday world behind and enjoy this remarkable retreat yourself.
What's nearby:
Vineyard Haven and the ferry terminal are less than a mile away. The Martha's Vineyard Museum is closer still and warrants a visit to learn about the island and its history. The harbor is full of boats – crowned by the offshore-moored, iconic topsail schooner, Shenandoah. Rent mopeds, bicycles, and even a center console power boat from 17’ to 22’. Take sailing lessons at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club, spend an afternoon at Owen Park Beach, or head to the links at the Farm Neck Golf Club four miles southeast. Enjoy rolling along on rented bicycles for miles and miles of mostly flat terrain at the Manuel F. Corellus State Forest. (Interesting note: as a teenager, Lily Hill’s owner, an avid biker himself, was a volunteer who helped build these bike paths through the forest.) You can even rent a Jeep, long preferred as a mode of Vineyard locomotion by locals, at Sun ’n’ Fun, in nearby Oak Bluffs. Sample the many excellent Vineyard Haven dining options, including La Soffitta, Salvatore’s Ristorante Italiano, Rocco’s Pizzeria, Bobby B’s, the Little House Cafe - and, of course, the famous Black Dog Cafe, Bakery and Tavern. You might even spot a celebrity (or two or three) enjoying morning coffee at Mocha Mott’s, ice cream at Mad Martha’s, or perusing the latest releases at everyone’s favorite independent bookstore, Bunch of Grapes.

The location and beauty of the landscape is amazing. And the house itself is old world -beautiful and comfortable. The views of the water and the private dock from the livingroom and bedrooms are stunning. However, the house lighting badly needs an upgrade. many switches don't work and the few standing lamps and sconse lighting (some of which don't even work) are completely inadequate to the size of the rooms. It wouldn't take much to transform the experience of the evenings in the home--some well-placed track lighting would do it. Similarly, some inexpensive kitchen items are unneccesarily unhelpful ( ex: 2 out of the 4 slots for the toaster don't work, etc. ).
We thoroughly enjoyed the property and loved the old wood paneling and crown moldings. The home was warm and cozy and the dock and beach front were a hit for our Golden retriever, Murphy. Will be back next year
We have stayed at the property multiple times over the past 8 years and continue to return due to the great location and the fantastic beach with a dock for our boat right in the backyard. Being able to walk to downtown Vineyard Haven for a coffee in the morning and hang out all day on the beach is exactly how we want to spend our vacation. The house itself is comfortable and clean. The bathrooms definitely need some love and updates, but are clean and everything works just fine. The beds were comfortable, we all slept great, and the kitchen met our needs. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return again!
Absolutely gorgeous estate and property. This is a uniquely special home and grounds. We will absolutely be back and can’t wait to return. The whole property is awesome, the layout of the actual house is so amazing I want to duplicate it when I build. Perfect location, perfect home and perfect stay. Ty!
I have never fallen so completely in love with a vrbo property as I did with the Lily Hill house. I spent the week just soaking in its rarified air, haunting the (for our party of 2) unused rooms upstairs, and pretending the beautiful lady in the stairwell portrait was my grandmother who had Surprise! bequeathed this lovely property to me. Likewise, the wood-paneled station wagon still parked in the garage, just waiting for the next trip to Garden or Yacht club. The house is a treasure trove of 50s-90s greatness. Ok in the kitchen there is a drawer full of flower vase frogs?. If you do not know what these are, do not rent this property. Heiress or not, I felt I was the house’s doting caretaker for our wonderful week there. I fluffed cushions and replaced light bulbs and took great pains to keep things in their rightful places. I’m a decorator so I did change some things to their new (correct ) rightful places- nothing dramatic, just making it as it should be. Evenings on the patio were dreamy- stargazing after dinner, listening to various water sounds and bird calls. Heaven. And there were bunnies- nice ones, in the gazebo area. On our last full day- oh my heart- we were readying a canoe, loaned by an Island friend, for a fishing run when we received a visit from a pair of swans. I kid you not and have videos to prove it. They came right into our little private beach and preened and fussed and generally showed their superiority. We were humbly grateful for their royal consideration. I believe I curtsied; I know I felt like it. All in all, it was magical, splendid, altogether unforgettable. It was only after we returned home and, missing the place so, I googled the owner ( my new grandmother), and the property itself; and, lo and behold, I found that Lily Hill is featured in not one but two coffee table books about the Island’s lovely homes and specifically those with lovely grounds and gardens. Well I couldn’t order fast enough. Now I can visit in print the truly enchanting property I love- until our next trip to dear Lily Hill
This was absolutely the worst VRBO experience we have ever had. Vacasa should not be a company you work with. We only stayed at the property for about four hours due to the mold and uncleanliness of the home my husband began to have asthma attacks and I started experiencing really bad headaches. There was mice feces in several places in the home, nails sticking out of the walls, cobwebs everywhere, dirty carpets. I could go on and on. And just to make this clear the appliances are so outdated that the wires coming out of them are not to Code they have cloth sheeting. The washer was rusted, not enough towels provided, no washcloths, Beach towels which is stated in the listing, Not adequate utensils, Basically whoever made up the description of the property did just that they made it up the entire property was falsified on your documentation is how it was presented it was fraud plain and simple.
The house and location could not have been better - it was quiet, on the water with a great dock for swimming and boats and a quick walk into town. The only downside to the house was if you are interested in cooking, there are no essentials - salt, pepper, etc. so you need to purchase everything and no dish towels. Otherwise the house was fantastic; it was great for several family members to gather comfortably. The outdside and front entrance were gorgeous!
I gave it 2 stars for the location, with a private beach and beautiful garden is was really a treat when the weather was nice. Lots of ticks, the garden was not sprayed and it was my biggest safety concern. The house needs a serious upgrade, we were not able to turn on lights in the living room, light was constantly flashing as there is something wrong with electrics, I also got tiny electric kick when I tried to use the switch. Master bedroom had a roof leak and washer and dryer were not working for few days but we got compensated. House is filled with a lot of broken furniture, sofas and armchairs look dirty and are full of holes, random clutter is stuck in many wardrobes so I didn’t unpack my suitcases as I didn’t have space to keep my clothes, oven in the kitchen was not working and one of the kitchen cabinet door fell off on top of me. Kitchen equipment is dated, cutlery rusty... it’s definitely not what I was expecting considering the location and price. If you don’t plan to spend much time indoors, eat out and enjoy the weather - go for it, if you travel off season I would not recommend it.
Very nice place, very warm. Not much lite in the kitchen. Would come back again. Very clean
Not as advertised.Only one full bathroom House needs maintenance . But beautiful property
