Stayed Aug 9, 2025This was our second summer at Granite Shores and once again we had a wonderful week. The entire place is well equipped to handle a family of 11 and offers lots of places to roam. The wildlife kept us entertained - seals, porpoises. bald eagles, loons, foxes, mink and deer - lots of deer. The enormous living room has zillions of books, games and puzzles for folks of all ages to enjoy on a rainy day - though we had no rainy days while we were there. Definitely a place to return to, and definitely a 5 star accommodation.

Stayed Jun 28, 2025Overall, family had a great time - location was just what we wanted - off the beaten path, but close enough to drive to small towns and other sights we wanted to see. The private beach was great for kids to dip toes in the cold water and throw rocks, and the sunset view is gorgeous.House was spacious. Living room could seat and accommodate everyone and games and puzzles on property were nice. Appreciated having all the tools for a lobster cook at the house. And we really enjoyed having a dining area large enough for all 13 of us, and with a westerly water view! The con is that the house needs years (decades?) of deferred TLC. At one time it surely must have been a sight to behold, but is now overgrown (gardens), outdated and worn out (interiors). I wouldn't say it is uncomfortable, but for the cost my family expected a nicer accommodation overall.

Stayed Aug 10, 2024Our family group included 7 adults and 4 children ages7-15. Everyone loved the place and was sad to leave at the end of the week. The beautiful home is extremely well supplied in all areas. The kitchen had everything we needed and loads of dishes, silverware and pots and pans. The gazebo is a serene gathering place for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails and proved to be a great spot to view dolphins, seals, Bald Eagles, jumping fish etc. The rooms are all spacious. The living room is large enough for everyone to find a place to curl up and read or play a game. We all certainly hope to be able to return to this idyllic vacation home.

Stayed Aug 19, 2023The walk ways were overgrown I had to cut down sticker branches by the one entrance way so no one would get cut. Overall the home was accommodating. The owner was responsive.

Stayed Jul 29, 2023This is a large older house on the water with a private beach on a 10 acre setting. The house easily accommodated our family of six adults and four children. The views of the ocean are excellent. The property provides a secluded location with easy access to Stonington. The large living room and large dining room provide plenty of space and are very nice. The kitchen is stocked with cooking utensils and has two ovens and a cook top although lobsters and steaks are required to be cooked outside on the lobster cooker and barbecue grill. Meredith, the host, is very responsive to inquiries and easy to work with. Everyone had a good time.

Stayed Jun 24, 2023Beautiful location! We had our six original family members, plus 2 new son in laws, 2 older parents, our adult niece, her husband and two grand nieces! Our niece stayed in the apartment above the garage and it was perfect for them and their younger family. The older parents and our oldest and her husband stayed on the first floor on the right side in their own bedrooms. My other daughter and her husband stayed on the left side first floor. My wife and I stayed in the master bedroom on the second floor, which had a really nice king mattress, and our two younger children stayed in the other bedroom upstairs. The size of the house was amazing considering how many of us there were. There were many times the house with silent as no one was stirring in the morning, or everyone was napping in the afternoon! I would highly recommend staying here. Unfortunately the weather was foggy the entire time we were at the house and I’m sure we missed out on some spectacular views. The kitchen came stocked with everything you would need to cook any meal. They were plenty of towels for showering, and for the beach. The path to the private beach was really fun and the gazebo with the beautiful dock was great for hanging out! My nephew caught a 30 inch Striper that weighted 12 pounds right off the dock! Don’t waste your time looking for any other house. Book this, I promise you won’t regret it!

Stayed Aug 6, 2022The photos promoting the house and property looked fancy, so we were happy to find a rustic retreat in what seemed an historic dwelling that must hold many stories. It was a great property for 3 generations. With group cooking and plenty of room to sit at the magnificent dining table overlooking the coast. Definitely plan to rent boards and kayaks from the Activity Center in bluehill. Many of us were out on the water every day

Stayed Jul 30, 2022Granite Shores was the perfect place for our family of 10 - 6 adults and 4 children, ages 5-8. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The kids rotated between our private beach, fishing from the pier, hiking to Barred Island and its beach, playing ping pong and coloring in the garage, and using the apartment for daily “Cousin Quiet Time.” There were plenty of beach/sand toys for them. The adults (grandparents and two sets of parents) loved all of the above, plus cocktails and sunsets and morning coffee from the deck of the gazebo, cooking lobster (purchased right off the boat)on the outdoor burner, and shucking oysters from Long Cove Sea Farm. Everything was immaculately clean. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking. We appreciated the thoughtful touches such as nightlights in all the bathrooms, and bedside tables and reading lights on both sides of all the beds. The kids enjoyed the great selection of childrens games and books. There is a terrific “library” of books for adults as well. Other than Barred Island and one excursion to Stonington for lunch and ice cream, we never left the premises except for resupply trips to Burnt Cove Market. No one wanted to! Lastly, Meredith is a great communicator- almost instant responses to any of our questions. Thank you, Meredith for sharing that wonderful place with us!

Stayed Jun 18, 2022There were 12 of us renting this property between the ages of 5 and 75! Great place for a family get together. Had everything we needed in a beautiful setting. The kids are already asking us to rent it next year!
