Cozy cabin with lots of privacy. Driveway is no joke! Really enjoyed our stay.
This house is perfect for a group looking to get away and spend time in the beautiful foothills of NC. It was nice having three floors (teenagers could stay on first floor while adults stayed off n top floor). There was a nice big covered deck of morning coffee and afternoon napping. And we enjoyed hanging out at the fire pit both nights. Very close to DuPont State Recreation Area (mountain biking!) and Brevard. And the cafe down the road had a few grocery items and served three meals a day, plus had live music on Saturday night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We really enjoyed the deck and the gas grill. I felt I was deep in the woods, but truly so close to downtown. Out host was helpful. Hiking in the area was great.
We really enjoyed the home and the host help me with everything I requested.
This property was not what we expected. When we arrived, the basement smelled bad. There was dirt in corners of the floors, bugs on window sills, and cobwebs in various places throughout the home. The dishes in the kitchen were not clean and, since there was no dishwasher, we had to wash whatever we used. There were several remotes missing or with dead batteries that made the DVD player and one of the TVs unable to be used. When we contacted the owners, the sent out someone to clean it and then decided it didn't need to be cleaned and told us we must not be the best fit for this house. Unfortunately, we were unable to find anyplace else to stay for the week, so we ended up cleaning the house ourselves as best we could and making the best of a bad situation. We have rented several vacation houses and never have had an experience like this one.
With cleaning fees so high I expected it to be way more clean. Rat poop in all over the pots and pans in the bottom cabinets, dog hair covering the floors and furniture, tables and shelves dusty, and cob webs everywhere door frames window seals and in lots of corners. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. Just bitter about paying a cleaning fee but not clean.
First, I can’t say enough about the hospitality provided by the property owners. Immediate contact upon booking, super responsive and courteous. It was a pleasure to rent from them, truly. They provide a great amount of resources and ideas for you to do while in this cool little town. The house is beautiful, secluded in the woods, has a really cool layout and decks for days!!! We saw bunnies in the yard! My kids thought it was the coolest thing ever. This house’s added bonus is a bathroom on all 3 levels. SO convenient. Very happy with our stay and you MUST check out Symmes Chapel aka “Pretty Place.” It’s close and breathtaking.
First off, the owner is the friendliest and most accommodating home owner I've ever rented a vacation home from. Very responsive and easy to communicate with. The home is huge and has plenty of space for everyone. There are 3 levels. The lower level has 3 bedrooms and a bath, washer/dryer, then upstairs is the main level with kitchen /living /dining and a bath and then another bedroom upstairs in the 3rd level. Lots of porches and entry-ways to take in the peaceful views. There is a wood burning stove and plenty of wood to keep warm. The kitchen was pretty well stocked. The one thing we couldn't find that we needed was a can opener. It snowed substantially while we were there and we had an awesome time playing in the big and hilly yard. I would point out that you really need a truck or SUV that has high clearance to get there. The driveway is very steep and there are some large rocks/holes to traverse to get to the home. Thankfully we had a 4x4 and were able to get back down in the snow to leave. It is pet friendly which is great and plenty of room outside for the dogs to run. All in all a great place to spend a few days near Dupont Forest or Brevard.
I have stayed at the Sugaree 6 times over the last 3 years with friends for mountain biking trips to DuPont and Pisgah, and a few times with my wife for weekend getaways. The location is perfect: 3 miles from trailhead at DuPont State Forest, great hikes with waterfalls and lookouts, 10 minutes to Brevard/Pisgah and less than an hour to Ashville. Located near the hamlet of Cedar Mountain where there is a great beer garden/bar, Cedar Mountain Canteen, and a nice restaurant, Cedar Mountain Café. Newly opened Cedar Mountain Outpost is also nearby. Layout of home is comfortable for family and friends , kids, and dogs! take advantage of fire pit!
