I've winter VRBO'd in Ouray for decade+ & most disappointed w/this one. Furnishings ok, though some of the bed frames very rickety (bring ear plugs). Some bathrooms had bars of soap, some didn't. There was trash under some of the beds. Had to do our own shoveling, 2 members fell on ice doing so. Property mnger didn't respond to text asking for ice melt. Message in binder says it snows in Ouray in the winter & they can't control the snow removal. Have stayed @ many properties in the area over the years & NEVER had this problem. Heat works once you figure it out. Set to return to below 60 every night so make sure you put a hold to keep it from going too low overnight. Other reviews said it doesn't have extra blankets, but we found them in the (cobwebbed) closets. We also found that both trash cans overfull. We were a family of 8 & only generated 1 bag of trash for 3 nights, so no way had the trash been put out in weeks. Kitchen stocked w/basics. Bring your own can opener &d wine opener-ones there no longer work. They have a coffee bean grinder, so you can leave that @ home. Views are pretty-you should be looking out @ the mountains & then you won't mind the house in front of you. Neighborhood dog greets you in the evenings. Pictures misleading as they make it seem like there is trailhead on the property. This is a regular house w/a regular lot. The TH is in the neighborhood, not near house. Overall, would stay again if managed differently.
We stayed 3 nights in June. The house is a little hard to find, based on the directions. Upon arrival I wasn’t thrilled about the upkeep. The grass and weeds were way over grown. When we entered the house it stunk, bad. The trash cans were all full and clearly had been there a while. We set them outside, opened the windows and called the contact # provided in the email. The contact said there was nothing he could do, he lived 45 min away and trash didn’t have pick up until Thursday (it was Monday). We called the property manager and they also said that there was nothing they could do AND the trash has to stay in the house or garage because of bears. I was extremely not happy. The house it’s self was ok. It was clean and well stocked except for wash clothes , which are not sold anywhere in town (we looked). There is no AC, which I didn’t realize and makes the days in June a little uncomfortable. The back porch view, which is featured in the listing is definitely deceiving. The Mountain View is beautiful but what you can’t tell from the picture is that you are also staring at a bunch of crappy cars, houses, and junk next door. Just an FYI. My family of 8 adults stayed and enjoyed touring Ouray. It is a fun, quaint, expensive town. The house also had a plumbing leak from the upstairs shower that flooded the basement floor, which we were left to deal with. They did provide a small refund for the inconvenience.
The house was very nice and large enough for nine adults and a baby. We had a couple of issues the first night. I called and left message for property manager and never received a call back. Plus, there wasn't enough toliet paper for our large parry. But all in all very enjoyable stay!
The house and location were perfect for anyone with a large party that loves nature and stunning views.
I really liked this property; especially the great room. Very nice fall retreat space.
We are a group of women who travel to short-term rentals often. Frankly, this was the most awkward (read: disappointing). We walked in on a rainy fall night to a house that was 62 degrees, and the thermostat would not go up again until 8:30 am., and then only to 68. We all looked for more blankets but there was not even one extra. The welcome book was just as cold; every page felt like the owner was ready to string us up if we so much as thought we might want more than one extra towel (Wash your own, it said. But there was no detergent._) It even suggested we might be short-term rental hucksters and said they had a time stamped video of the rooms before we arrived to hold us accountable if we had missed a rule (10 pages of rules with sarcastic comments on many of them). We do understand; the owners obviously have had problem guests/partiers and are trying to avoid more problems, but we did feel unwelcome in many ways. No extras like soap for the showers, for example. We hate to give a bad review. But we felt we had to. Clean house/cold welcome.
