Stayed Jan 6, 2026My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay recently (in JAN) at Sandy Dunes, a place managed impeccably thru VRBO and Oak Island Accommodations. We arrived to find this beautifully decorated home very clean in all aspects, including the sinks and appliances, with everything organized to make settling in easy. The notebook left on the table was concise in explaining the features of this home, as well as providing guidance for places to visit and some great places to eat. The beach themed decor of the living area invited us into an atmosphere of both fun, as well as rest and relaxation, with several items quite unique and wonderful. The master bedroom featured a very comfortable King bed, and a master bath that featured an invigorating shower with plenty of heat and force. The middle bedroom featuredtwo classic rail beds with pillows galore, and the third bedroom had a great decor for kids. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything needed to prepare a meal for family and friends. Our walks on the beach helped us to unwind, and probably our most enjoyable time was an afternoon just spent reading and lounging on the deck overlooking the Atlantic, with the sun bathing us in warmth on a 70 degree day with no wind in the month of January. We conclude that Sandy Dunes is the perfect place to visit any time of year.My wife and I cannot wait to come back. Many thanks.

Stayed Jul 7, 2025It was an absolute nightmare. The house was infested with ants, the comp they put us in was horrible so much that we left early and got our money back.

Stayed Sep 7, 2024I have been taking my family to Oak Island for nearly 20 years. Sandy Dunes is now our absolute favorite house! Everything was great! And, when I called, on the way home, to report the dishwasher issue, the Oak Island Accommodations rep was very nice and grateful for the information.

Stayed Dec 30, 2022This property was perfect for our family of four (plus our four-legged family member) for a long weekend getaway. The property was clean and efficiently laid-out with perfect outdoor decks/furniture to enjoy the amazing view - rain or shine! Love that the property is dog-friendly and we hope to be back again soon!

Stayed Sep 19, 2021This house was just right for our small group of four adults and two small dogs. We had everything we needed. It was great to be so close to the beach, too.

Stayed Mar 27, 2021We absolutely LOVED this property. Beautiful, well-furnished home right on the beach so close you can throw a shell! ;) The kitchen has everything you could possibly want & more. Loved the deck gates on both front & back that made it perfect for young children & pets. Tons of puzzles, board games, card decks, & an Xbox kept the kiddos busy when needing a break from the sun. The outdoor enclosed hot/cold shower on the deck + a rinse-off spigot at the deck gate are a huge plus for all the sand!! Overall, we would definitely recommend. Potential cons for the consideration: 1) We were personally not fans of the mattresses. The King & Doubles have 4inch thick built-in toppers that sleep like old feather beds. Survivable, not the worst...but for us, also not the best. 2) We had absolutely lackluster experience with the property management company, Oak Island Accommodations. On the *three* separate occasions we reached out to them (2 prior to arrival about info/requests on our end, 1 to inform them the water dispenser on the fridge was no longer operating) we were left with a less than professional impression. One request was to add a day to our stay & after two ignored emails, I reached out directly and was given false information over the phone very rudely. I almost cancelled our stay because it was such a concerning experience that caused me to look up the company’s reviews. They’re full of very similar experiences, unfortunately. I tried again & was able to ‘chat’ via the website the next day & was able to extend our stay as originally requested, but again told false information about our deposit (requiring it to be cash only) which was not the case and was instead able to pay online via our preferred method. When I called about the fridge issue on a Weds mid-stay & offered for the issue to be fixed upon our checkout as it was inconsequential to our stay, I was informed basically that it didn’t matter because they “only have one tech” so it would be that long anyway. That felt concerning & we found ourselves thankful we didn’t have a bigger problem requiring attention. So all that to say - the property is absolutely wonderful and well worth considering, just pray you don’t have to deal with the property management company. It’s times like these I wish for all parties it would be possible to connect directly with the owners. I wish them nothing but the best, because it’s clear they’ve put a lot of love into their home! :)

Stayed Nov 7, 2018We don't usually write reviews but wanted to alert you about the issue you have at the Sandy Dunes property. You have the start of a real pest problem. We found roaches crawling around the utensils drawer, inside the dishwasher, and all around the counter. If it had been one or two we could have ignored it. But with as many as we saw we had to write this review. We contacted the management office and they did send a pest control company to treat with a pet friendly chemical. He said that the kind of roaches he saw were more difficult to get rid of and that several treatments should be scheduled. What really surprised us was that the guest book entry by the prior renter had comments about a bug problem and it had obviously not been addressed. We stayed at the property for four nights and had to stay around on two days to meet service people. One for the roaches and one because the door code was not pushed to the property properly. Disappointed that our limited time to spend sightseeing was impacted because of this.
