Todd, North Carolina
Riverhouse at Meadow Landing is a 3 bedroom, 2 full bath and 2 half-bath cabin located on the South Fork of the New River in Todd. It's very convenient to Boone and West Jefferson (20-minute drive) and has easy access year round. The location is on the east side of the High Country (10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway) so from Charlotte and Raleigh and points east you don't have to fight town traffic to get here once you get to the top of the mountain.
So, here's what you'll find when you walk in the door: foyer opens to the big open kitchen that is fully equipped and has lots of counter space and eat-in bar with two stools. You've got an open floor plan to the living area with two pull-out couches, recliner and additional seating. Living room has a flatscreen satellite TV mounted above the gas-log fireplace and a big bank of windows looking out over the river and mountains beyond. There's also a dining area with table and seating for six. Off the living room area, there's a half-bath/laundry area combo. You also have the first bedroom (king bed) and second bedroom (full size bed) which share a Jack and Jill bath that is located between them.
Stairs from the living area will take you to the lower level where you will find a second, smaller kitchen, sitting area with card table and futon, full bath, a second half-bath and an oversized third bedroom (1 full bed and two twin beds).
The property has DSL Wi-Fi internet so you can surf or grab your emails and a collection of board games stowed in the second upstairs bedroom and the downstairs sitting area for rainy days or late evenings. A second TV with DVD player is also in the downstairs sitting area.
Now, for the outside. There's a small covered porch at the main entrance and off the river side of the cabin you have two decks. Upper deck is large and open with a gas grill. Second deck beneath, accessible by steps or from lower level, is covered. Lots of lawn – almost an acre and it's almost all flat! Great for a cookout and a tossing around a football!
Dogs welcome! : $25 per Night per pet
Mature, well-trained dogs only please max 2 dogs.

We truly like the spacious of the house, but the oven didn't work and was very inconvenient this time. We emailed the rental company but never heard back. The full-size beds really need to be updated to queen size beds. This will be our last year staying in this house due to the beds, which is very sad because we like the area and the lay out of the house.
The rental process was very easy. I did everything from my cell phone.
The owner needs to upgrade the beds, and sleeping fulton. They’re so old and the fulton dropped all the way to the floor as you sit on it.
We enjoyed our weekend tubing trip, and the cabin was very nice. The house was very clean and provided a lot of room for our family with a beautiful view by the River. The only thing I would change is upgrading the full size beds to queen. A little hard for two adults to sleep on a full size bed. Very close quarters. LOL
Super easy to book and we all loved the view of the River during the day and seeing the stars at night.
Very easy and smooth process
Overall this suited our purpose. We all had a great time. My husband and I took our adult children, young grandchildren and both our mothers. Everyone had a great time. There were a couple minor disappointments/discourages…which would have possibly kept me looking for another property if I had known…mostly sleeping arrangements. I knew we would be right and that someone would be sleeping on a pullout or air mattress which was fine. But the descriptions are (were) deceiving. It was not clear the upstairs bedrooms shared a bath. That has been fixed if you read the full description…go by that…it is the most accurate. Only difference is the downstairs card table is not downstairs (which is better because the dining only sits 6 so we used the card table for extra seating). There are 4 folding chairs in the garage…still not enough seats for a house that sleeps 12 to sit together but we made it work. If you’re there for the Wi-Fi …don’t go. It absolutely is not strong enough to even check your email. A couple of us needed to work o e day and were unable. Also at the advice of another guest we took a Roku stick but couldn’t use it due to the Wi-Fi signal being too weak. We played a lot of card games (though they have plenty we took our own). Also put together a couple puzzles they supplied. Went to Boone a couple times, grandfather mountain, blowing rock, Lincoln falls, and Tweetsie Christmas: all of which weee easy sei Ed and the kids (big & little) loved! If you’re bringing animals (we did not) consider this …One of the neighbors, I believe the red house across the street, has 1 or 2 little hippy dogs that keep getting in the road and crossing over to the yard and doing their business! One of the kids actually stepped in it at one point! I did complain to the property manager about this but I’m not what or if they did anything or if they even can. Though NC does have a leash law. I also let them know about the wifi. They said they’d send someone out that night but no one ever came. All in all we had a great time and it’s a very nice property in a great and beautiful location. I’m would not go back with that many people as it was a little crowded. And the pull-outs are extremely uncomfortable. But if you have 8 or less people and don’t need Wi-Fi …I’d say go for it. Totally worth it! Also we had a couple deer in the back yard one morning! …until The yippie dog barked them away ?
We needed a pet friendly cabin roomy enough for a family of 10 and this was perfect. Right on the river, close enough to Boone and West Jefferson to do any shopping necessary. Cooked a great Thanksgiving meal and even went to Frosty’s Choose and Cut Tree farm to bring home our Christmas tree. It was a wonderful week!
beautiful area, lots of puzzles, games, etc. to entertain both children and adults inside and beautiful lawn leading to river outside. No gas for grill, however.
This was a wonderful property on the river. Easy drive to Boone and West Jefferson. Tubing/kayaking from Todd was perfect. As other mentioned, the mattresses were HARD and could use mattress toppers. All the linens and towels need to be updated. The furnishings were hodge-podge as well. If those things were to be taken care of, it would truly be a top notch rental!! We enjoyed our stay regardless of the poor sleep.
