The property was perfect for our family vacation. Location is great, a quick boat or car ride to downtown. The house is very clean and has a beautiful porch, with a great view of the river. The owner was very easy to reach and communicated with us throughout our stay.
We had a wonderful time at Paul’s house on the river! The pics on VRBO didn’t do the house/property enough justice- we were so excited once we arrived & found it to look even better in person! We also rented the pontoon boat - definitely a must! Check in was easy & we appreciated all of the instructions on the iPad. The kids stash of toys in one of the bedroom closets was a fun find for my niece! Loved the kitchen, cooked every meal, every day. Took us a few to figure out the keypad on the door & how to lock it when we left - maybe instructions on how to do that & how to work the tv would be good things to add to the iPad. It only rained one afternoon but that made the walk down to the boat muddy and slippery - a continuation of stairs or a wooden walkway from the back deck stairs to the dock would be a good project for the future. Loved the ability to do laundry while there. Great location & easy to get to. Would love to go back sometime :) Also one of the cleanest vacation homes we’ve rented.
First of all, this location was perfect for taking advantage of everything Black River has to offer. We enjoyed the convenience of using our boat for water sports, while also enjoying the inland water way! The updates of the house were a pleasant surprise! We felt like it would be easier to list the pros and cons. Most certainly would love to return if we’re welcome, based on an incident that occurred with the pool table. Cons No ladder (off the dock) Lack of kitchen stuff (flat spatula, wooden spoons, pot holders) Dock cleats Dock bumpers Something better to take things down to the water Light switches (would be nice to have more labels so we know what goes to what) Grill on the upper deck would be nice Room darkening curtains Needing the host to reset the iPad code personally Pros Space Parking 2 masters Outside beverage cooler Attentiveness of Paul Fire pit iPad and communication Towels Hospitality (wine) cleaning supplies, garbage bags Thanks again Paul!! We appreciated your attentiveness!!
The house has several updates that were very nice. The use of the pontoon boat was great, and the owner communicated very well.
My husband, two sons, mother, and I, all stayed at this Lakeside property in early June. Due to some issues with timing, there were still some renovations left to be completed to the property. That didn’t stop us from enjoying the amenities. Paul was responsive to all of our questions and concerns. Once the renovations are finalized, this will be a perfect location for any family vacation in the Mackinaw City/Cheboygan area. Upon check-in, we were pleased to find an iPad welcoming us and providing tips on our stay. Paul stayed in communication during the entire week and was extremely helpful. If you enjoy cooking, you can look forward to using a Viking range with a grill top option. There’s also an outside grill it was the perfect size for our party of five. If you have more than that staying with you, plan to cook in shifts as it is a smaller grill. The pool table was a nice treat, and offered the opportunity to have a little competitiveness in the evening after a day of touring. Both upstairs and downstairs have large screen televisions with multiple apps. We were just a little confused on which services were available. It might be good to have a list of what is able to be used, but we figured it out. If you take advantage of the option to rent a pontoon boat, it makes for a lovely day out on the water. The kayaks are also an option. My two sons enjoyed kayaking together as we sat on the boat and watch them. A good time was had by all!
The house was perfect for 4 couples.
Great place to stay
Our family and friends had a wonderful time! Plenty of room for everyone, well appointed kitchen, updated and comfortable living areas. It was really nice to have a living room downstairs for the teens to hang out (they loved the pool table). Definitely worth adding the pontoon on for cruising and fishing. I caught a lot of perch and panfish as well as a couple of large mouth across the river. Location was great, secluded, but less than 5 miles to stores and downtown. Less than 30 minutes to Mighty Mac and the UP too. We had a couple of very minor issues come up, and Paul was the most responsive and accommodating property manager I could have asked for. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone with a large group, and would stay here again without worries.
The house and property are amazing. Very clean and organized. The host is kind and prompt. I would stay again.
The House felt like home, enough room for everyone. Location is perfect & the fishing is great. Would love to return in the near future. Thanks for sharing your home!
We enjoyed being on the Black River. The house is set back and on a hill so the view is good. What made it nice was the golf cart provided to get gear down to the waterfront. The house is very spacious. The boys enjoyed the pool table in the lower level. We were on the pontoon every day. We had a couple issues and they were handled right away. Great vacation.
I'm going to start by saying our Host, Doris, was exceptional. If you have a question or issue, you won't find a host more responsive or committed to your satisfaction. If I could have Doris as my Host for every VRBO property I choose going forward, I would consider myself very fortunate. As for the home, it is lovely. We, the kids, and the three grandkids (total of eight of us) spent a week here. It is a very nice home, tastefully decorated, and very up-to-date with comfortable beds. The TV has many of the major streaming service software on it, so if you have a subscription to any of those you can log yourself in and be in business (just remember to log yourself out before you leave). There is a very large pantry and a nice kitchen that was well-equipped. The view out the back from the deck is beautiful, and we were able to keep the temperature comfortable with the thermostat. I will add that I'm kind of big on having plenty of water pressure in the shower, and I don't expect good pressure in these up North homes. But the water pressure was excellent (maybe better than I have at home). I'll add that the property is tucked away and private, which is really nice. We used the very large backyard to set up games (corn hole, ring toss, ladders, etc.). Based on the pictures, we saw a four-seat table for eating along with four seats at the counter and we thought that is what we doing if we didn't opt to eat outside on the larger table. But lo and behold, open the table up and there are four leaves and it comfortably fit all eight of us. We were only about 30 minutes from Mackinaw City and the ferries to Mackinac Island. And if you've got young ones like we did, they'll love the Mystery Spot at St. Ignace, which is just over the bridge. All in all, if you are looking for something in the Cheboygan area, I give this my highest recommendation!
