Happiness Comes in Waves is the perfect spot for an island getaway! It's just steps from the beach, but is a secluded setting that backs up to the Davis Canal tidal marsh with a private pier that you can drop a line in the water or a crab trap (one of only two private piers in the area). The property is fourth row back and a quick 2-minute walk to the beach with easy access. Relax on the front deck and fall asleep listening to sounds of the ocean!

This property boasts 3 bedrooms and 11/2 baths plus an additional outdoor shower with hot/cold water for use during the summer months. The kitchen was recently completely renovated, with ample cabinet storage space and is well equipped (pots, pans, blender, electric griddle, toaster oven, coffee maker (standard and Keurig), hand mixer, crockpot, etc) to meet all of your cooking needs.

The inside dining table has four chairs, plus we have two folding chairs, plastic deck chairs, and out on the deck is a wrought-iron table with four chairs.

Bedroom 1 has a king bed. Bedroom 2 includes two sets of bunk beds (the top bunks are only for children). Bedroom 3 has a queen bed.

Linens are NOT provided but the property does include pillows, blankets, and comforters/quilts for all beds and the sofa sleeper. You can bring your own sheets and towels, or rent them from Sharon's Linens on Oak Island (if you do this, we've heard that Sharon's can be sold out in peak season, so contact them early).

All bedrooms and the living room have ceiling fans. The ceiling fan/light in the living room is operated by remote control.

The property includes a Roku TV and high-speed Internet access and WiFi.

This is a pet friendly property with a maximum of 2 pets allowed (dogs only, owner is allergic to cats). Dogs must weigh under 100 lbs and there is a non-refundable pet fee of $120. Owners must clean up the yard after their pets! Please clean furniture is there is an abundant amount of hair as well.

There's a wagon to haul your gear over to the beach and usually several beach chairs. And there's a hose available to wash all those things down when you come back from the beach.

An ice shack is two blocks away to fill your cooler. It's next door to a convenience store for anything you might've forgotten.

A washer/dryer is in the half-bath.

The beds were comfortable and there were lots of pillows and blankets. There were exactly 5 plastic hangers provided for a house that sleeps 8, which isn't practical. The rough rocks on the driveway are very hard on a dog's paws and this is listed as a pet friendly rental. The air conditioning was cold, which was great. The indoor shower is also nice. In general, the house is run down and needs repairs/maintenance--the deck and the stairs especially. The beach chairs that were provided were all broken or so rusty that they wouldn't open. The only beach shovel was missing 1/2 of the shovel. The 1 boogie board was ok, but the house sleeps 8. The vacuum cleaner smelled really bad and barely worked at all.

We left our 2 week rental after 4 days. When we arrived on the correct date and time another group was occupying the property. i tried to contact the host through vrbo without success. The only contact number I had was for the cleaner for the property. She was as helpful as she could be but it was an extended amount of time before the host responded. The host said it was a mix-up. Obviously the other party used the same door code that we were given. The lack of security prompted us to vacate the property. As a side note-I inquired about the grill that was listed as an amenity but not present, eventually the host said they had a recent guest break in, the grill must have be stolen. I did suggest to the host that a property manager might be in order if she is not accessible to her guests.

Here’s a short, balanced review that highlights both the positives and the areas for improvement:---We really enjoyed our stay! The house was clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and it was just a quick walk to the beach. The quiet street, dog-friendly policy, and private dock overlooking the marsh were big highlights. The sunsets each evening were breath-taking. As bird enthusiasts loved watching wildlife from the marsh dock. The host was responsive and helped quickly with an internet issue. A few things could be improved—there was no grill even though it was listed, and we had to move some trash and wet insulation off to the side under the house. Still, overall a great spot and we'd stay again if minor issues addressed.

The house was good for us. We did find a couple of bugs, but nothing unreasonable. Overall the experience was a good one. The bathroom was adequate and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed having the sundeck in the front and the street was quiet. All things considered, it was a pleasant stay. The television could stand to have an antenna added, because the streaming can be a little confusing for tech idiots like me.

Over all charming a few hiccups that were addressed immediately. Was not impressed with the amount of ant motels around kitchen countertops. The front deck was a bit rough.

Perfect location on Oak Island! Situated on the marsh, enjoy the view from the kitchen window or walk out onto the dock to observe wildlife with the changing tides. This was our favorite spot for coffee each morning. Enjoy the sounds of the ocean from the deck on the opposite side of the house or take the 2 minute walk to the ocean. House is small, but was clean, comfortable -just right for a relaxing long weekend for our family of four. Being able to bring our dog was an added bonus!

Well stocked kitchen, good decor. Plenty of seating. Loved the pier out to the marsh and only a short walk to the ocean. The owner was super friendly and responsive to any questions. Great check-in process. I would stay here again!

This was a perfect stay for us. I was so appreciative of the hosts letting us in a bit early, which was super helpful with two little ones and our dog! The space was great, well stocked, very short walk to the beach. The private dock was amazing and we enjoyed the most beautiful sunsets there. I’d suggest the fan blades being cleaned more regularly and having a laundry basket. It did get very hot in the unit in the afternoon, which was posted as an FYI. Overall a wonderful stay!

This place was a great location and a short walk to the beach. We loved the private boardwalk! The description said there was a pull out couch but there wasn’t. The air conditioning unit doesn’t really work and it got hot! There’s a sign that says they hope to get it fixed in the future but maybe a few more window units would help. All in all it was a cute place but could use some updates like the air conditioning, maybe string lights on the patio, and weed whack some over growth on the boardwalk. Upon arrival it looked like personal items from previous guests were left behind, making us question the thoroughness of the cleaning.

Great house, quiet location but just a short walk to beach. Deck is perfect for morning coffee and late afternoon gatherings for the family. Beds were great although the bunk bed mattresses were very thin. But who cares - we were at the beach! The water doesn’t come in enough to fish off the dock but it is a great place to hang out and watch nature. If I had any suggestions to offer, it would be to have at least one cabinet where guests could store food. But I have never seen a kitchen so well-equipped. We will definitely be back!
