Beautiful home right on the Susquehanna River! Amazing river views from front windows. Walking distance to Capitol, Midtown Scholar Bookstore, Broad Street Market, Strawberry Square, Whitaker Center. Light and bright house with updated interior. We are minimalist in our decor, so we don't have a lot of clutter. But we believe in having items of quality and value. Each decorative item in our home has been chosen carefully and brings us much joy! Handmade Amish quilts on all the beds. Beautiful stained glass windows. Local, original works of art throughout the house. A Persian carpet in the living room made from natural dyes and purchased through a fair-trade organization. 2 outdoor decks you can relax and eat on. An outdoor patio off the kitchen. We also love to eat breakfast in the summer at the little table outside our front door. Speaking of breakfast, we love the donuts and cinnamon rolls just a few blocks away from the Broad St. Market. We are members of the Mennonite faith which means we are not allowed to have a TV in our home. However, we do not want to impose our values on our guests, so we provide free WiFi - so bring your laptop and devices along to get your screen time. Our family enjoys talking, walking, and playing together. We have board games and books at the house for your enjoyment. Enjoy the great outdoors! Just walk outside and start jogging, walking, and biking along river. Nice walk to City Island (about 25 min. walk) where you can use batting cages, arcade games, watch Senators baseball games, City Islanders soccer games, Water mini-golf, playground, etc. We love this house and we know you will too! As a family of nine, we live here only part of the year. We love knowing that our home is available to other large groups or even family reunions. We know how hard it is to find similar accommodations in hotels where groups can spend time together. History: The house was owned for 35 yrs. by a professor of psychiatry. Both of us are professors as well, of biology and political science. This house is a great place to relax and take a break from work!
Several friends and I were in town for a wedding and had a great time here. The place is clean and inviting. Everyone was comfortable in their bedrooms and there were also multiple outdoor spaces. We had a couple of wedding related events in town and we were able to walk to all of them. The house is located across the street from a river and so we had a pleasant walk along the river into town. One member of our group is a runner and she enjoyed running along one side of the river to a bridge then back along the other side to a second bridge. Check in was straightforward and the house had the amenities we needed (towels, hairdryer, etc.).
Great location in a spacious, older home. Super hosts. River view outstanding.
Stay was great super comfortable. Plenty of toys for my child and lots of kids books to read at bedtime. 5 stars all the way
Excellent views of the river and just where we needed to be for our event in downtown Harrisburg. The Zooks are great hosts that give you all the details you need for a good stay.
I was visiting with some cousins and friends for my birthday and we had a great time at the house. There’s a lot of views and we loved how close to the water it is! We were a bit sad that the grill wasn’t available, but I would definitely come back again in the future!
Wonderful time staying in such a unique home! We never even found a need for tv and didn’t miss it a bit. There was so much to do and so much to explore. Our kids were fascinated with how different this house was from what they’ve seen. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Could not ask for a better spot- just a few blocks from the amazing public market, movie theatres, restaurants… You do need to consider the parking, but it’s not a huge deal. Beds are comfy. No frills, but a nice, clean place.
Such iia beautiful home, perfect location for activities . Walking distance to downtown Harrisburg. And easy travel to Hershey, Camp Hill, York, Lancaster area. Stunning views.home provided all basic needs.
The house is got some really cool old vibes with a really great view and location, walking distance to some fun spots!
Ideally situated across from the lovely Susquehanna River and in the heart of Midtown Harrisburg, this is a terrific spot to visit. The hosts were very responsive and helpful.
A nice walkable neighborhood.
As advertised. Close to attractions. Parking wasn’t as hard as what I had seen other guests describe. Good launching point to the surrounding area. If you like old houses (which we do) you will like this house!
Very clean with comfortable furniture. Owner very responsive.
The home itself was an older home with a lot of character & charm. Just a neat place! Many details & information were shared in advance of our arrival which was very helpful. . All of our needs were met by the host and we enjoyed our stay there. The biggest problem was parking near the home. It was stressful. Needed to work around street cleaning, streets being repaved, and one-way streets. Had to park 4-5 blocks up the street in order to be safe from tickets or towing. Not only just one but had 2 vehicles to park. Parking was the only negative during our stay in Harrisburg.
The home is absolutely beautiful. The hardwood floors, stain glass windows, view of the river, all of it was just amazing. The communication was top notch. I knew if anything cane up, I could reach out. If I'm ever planning to go back, I would most definitely stay again!
We left and stayed at a hotel for the week instead of staying the night here because the house did not meet the needs of our family, and this was not clear prior to booking the stay. The house location and expectations were unworkable for us. Examples: (1) The first example isn't really the homeowner's fault, and is completely understandable given the age and location of the home. Unfortunately, we couldn't find out about these prior to booking, or we would have booked elsewhere. There was no parking at the property, and there were no designated spots on the closest side road. This meant every time we left, we had to move the cars and hope to find a nearby spot when we returned. While this is perfectly fine for some, the walk was hard on my parents, who are getting up there in years. The narrow steps inside were also difficult for my parents. (2) The rest of our examples are house rules set by the owner. The house has some air conditioning, but the homeowner requested that it be set at 75 degrees, which is too warm for our family, which runs hot. (This was actually the final straw that caused us to choose to pay the extra money for a hotel-- otherwise we'd be too tired and cranky to enjoy the week... best money we spent!) (3) The house had beautiful windows looking at the water, but the homeowner requested the windows remained shuttered during daytime hours to protect their hardwood floors. I understand that this is an old house, but the PRIMARY selling point for booking this was that it had a beautiful view. My dad will spend hours just watching the water, which he was unable to see because the windows had to remain shuttered. (4) The rules said we were not able to wear shoes in the house to protect the floor. Two members of my family are required by their doctor to wear shoes except for when they're laying down for bed. (5) The rules also said we could not eat anywhere other than the kitchen or dining room. This just didn't work for my family, who likes to snack while watching movies and playing games.... though, I should also mention there is no TV here. These restrictions probably work for many people, but it did not work for our family of 5. We left and did not stay for the week. I wouldn't post all of this because the homeowners seem lovely, but I would like to spare another family the inconvenience we went through.
great location nice people.
