The Poet's Lodge Cabin is not fancy, but it is comfortable and in a great location being right on mooselookmeguntic lake. The screened in porch facing the lake is a very nice bonus. Sunsets can be easily seen from the back porch. There is quick access to the Oquossoc Grocery and Bald Mountain. While the cabin has no internet, we found we did not need it anyway. It forced us to really disconnect.
we had a great time at Poets Lodge. beautiful setting on the lake, the cottage is a bit campy but very comfortable
Beautiful location. Walking distance to Bald Mountain Camps where we had family staying was very helpful. Sunsets were amazing. Use of the canoe was great. Overall good stay.
Thanks to everyone at Morton & Furbish Vacation Rentals for helping set up our stay at the cabin. Their information updates made the entire process easy and seamless. The cabin itself was very nice with nonstop views of the lake from the screened-in porch. Our only real issue was the out-of-date boxsprings and mattresses in all of the bedrooms. As an older group of guys, we're looking for beds that aren't older than we are. Amazing place to spend some time and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks - Charlie
Didn't realize (could be our own fault) there is one bedroom out of the cabin. Kinda takes the everyone together thing away. Just a few things were unavailable; large bowls and serving spoons. Dining room table seats only about 5. So we brought in the picnic table for all of us to eat together. We had a blast and made do, not looking for perfection....just fun time together!
We really loved our week in the Poet's Lodge and are considering staying again in the future. It felt like staying in an old Maine camp. The post and beam construction was on full display. The place is clearly old, but well-maintained and everything was in working order. The old GE electric stove was retro! If you want and Rangeley lake camp experience, to be ensconced in nature, quiet neighbors, amazing sunsets, walk to Bald Mountain Camp for dinner and drinks, across the street from Bald Mountain Trailhead, this is for you. We sat on the screened-in porch and watched the kids swim until the sun went down. We basically lived outside- meals on the porch, coffee by the campfire. If you want a chef's kitchen, this rental is not for you. If you need top of the line, brand new everything, look elsewhere. But we love to the old-time feel and the setting. Loved: sandy beach, right on the water, screened in porch, picnic tables, spacious bedrooms, satellite TV, 1.5 baths, quiet neighbors, views, sunsets, campfire pit, lots of windows to catch the lake breeze, cleanliness. Would have preferred: better equipped kitchen, knives were all pretty dull, non-stick frying pans were destroyed (finish totally gone), limited large pot for pasta. Definitely need more pots and pans. OK with galley kitchen, mothball smell in the bathrooms (we just opened the windows), cell reception. (I was prepared for no cell reception, but both AT&T and Verizon devices were able to get 2 bars of LTE most of the time which allowed checking email, social media and making calls.
We have stayed at Poet's Lodge for two years now. The cottage itself is a little bit shabby, but you can't beat the lakefront!! The screened porch is fantastic for relaxing, dining, enjoying the view and listening to the loons. We will be back!
This place is in an absolutely beautiful spot, sloping lawn, sandy beach, crystal clear lake and stunning sunset views over the mountain every evening. Having Bald Mountain right across the street made for an easy access to hiking also. The camp itself is definitely a camp with slightly funky beds, a smattering of odd dishes, pans and plates (Could have used a large pot (the one there was old and rusty and a large bowl for mixing salads, etc), but I like that amusing, ecclectic feel. The very old stove was a hoot. I had never seen one like it, but it worked! Having two bathrooms was fantastic! Having a washer and dryer on site was nice although we never used it. Plan for bringing plenty of camp chairs as they only supplied a few for the porch and around the outdoor fireplace and one was broken. Would prefer a fire pit as the outdoor fireplace blew smoke back at you, and it was difficult for all 8 of us to sit around. We also brought our own small gas grill as they only had a charcoal grill. All in all would rent again, just making sure we planned for a few of the short comings. The perfect outdoor area was really where this camp shined!
It's true what they say about Location , location , location , and this cabin rental has it in spades ! The scenery to the western horizon is spectacular , especially at sunset. Couple that with an expansive, well kept lawn and a sandy beach out front and this location is what dreams are made of. The cabin has an oversize , screened in front porch with ample room for many ...plus , the picnic table already placed inside it makes this porch ready for family and friends.
The spot on the lake is amazing with a nice lawn and wonderful sandy beach area and nice dock. The fire pit is very nice near the water but we were disappointed to learn that the owner no longer supplies firewood for renters and we had to purchase our own. Luckily Morton & Furbish was amazing to work with and helped us arrange that for our visit. The house itself is dated and really should come with better kitchenware (eg. plates, bowls, silverware, utensils, pots/pans, etc.) for renters to use. They are all very old and frankly inadequate for a week long rental. The stove is very old but we got by with a camping stove that we used on the picnic table in the screened in porch. The beds are very old and not very comfortable so just be prepared. All that said, the sunsets from the front porch and firepit area are absolutely stunning. I just wish the owner would invest a bit more into the property to make it a more pleasant and comfortable stay for renters given how amazing the location of the house is.
