Playing Hooky

When you are ready to relax and re-charge, play hooky and escape to this serene mountain paradise located in beautiful Wears Valley. Let the peace and quiet, the fresh air and the calm forest sounds rejuvenate you. This charming cabin, built for a couple’s comfort, features a brand-new hot tub for 2, a private fire pit and a lovely deck next to a creek for dining or relaxing.

When you enter Playing Hooky, you will immediately notice the incredible, creative hand-crafted décor of this cabin. The porch posts, dining table and bedroom décor were shaped from native hardwoods with thoughtful attention to detail.

The cabin has a dining area, a well-equipped kitchen and a relaxing living area with comfortable chairs for 2, a flat screen TV and gas fireplace. The cozy bedroom has a queen bed, a flat screen TV and is adjacent to a beautiful bathroom with a large walk-in shower. The cabin is also equipped with a washer/dryer.

Outside, enjoy coffee or a good book while sitting on the deck next to the small creek. Unwind with a morning or evening soak in the hot tub located in a private area on the back deck. Build a fire at twilight in the natural stone fire pit, and enjoy the crackling sounds, the evening lightening bugs and refreshing wood smells.

The deck area features a table for 2, perfect for a romantic meal next to the creek. You never know what wildlife you might spy in the woodland area surrounding the cabin - black bears, deer, wild turkeys, fox, or pileated wood peckers!

Year-round fishing and seasonal pool access can be enjoyed nearby. Playing Hooky has a membership for your use to the Honeysuckle Meadows Pool & Deli located approximately 3 ½ miles from the cabin. Fishing pole rentals are available onsite during the summer season.

Make plans to go fishing, swimming, hiking or tubing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park located just 4 miles from the cabin via the Wears Valley/Line Springs Road entrance. Just inside the Park entrance is Metcalf Bottoms, a fantastic picnic area that features tables, grills, and the cool waters of the Little River.

Day driving trips through Cades Cove, to Clingmans Dome, around the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, to the Mountain Farm Museum & Mingus Mill near Cherokee or on the Tail of the Dragon always make fun & enjoyable outings. The entrance to the new scenic Wears Valley/Walland section of the Foothills Parkway which took over 50 years to complete is located just 2 1/2 miles from Playing Hooky.

For local dining near the cabin, some favorites are: Grandmother’s Kitchen, Elvira’s Café, Pawpaw’s Cajun Kitchen, Sloppy Hog Burger Joint, and the Wear Valley Social Food Truck Park.

After you have relaxed in this comfortable cabin and enjoyed the beautiful outdoors and nearby activities, you will wish you didn’t have to leave! You will be counting the days until you can return again to Playing Hooky.

Emotional Support Animals: Per official ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidance, emotional support animals (ESAs) are not covered by federal public accommodations laws. We do not accept emotional support animals in non-pet friendly cabins since these animals are not protected by any applicable federal, state, or local laws or regulations regarding short term lodging in Tennessee. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we are grateful it is a pet friendly property so our dog could be with us. Everything was provided in the cabin. It is close to everything but far enough off Wears Valley Road so that we could enjoy complete quiet in the woods and get away.

Excellent cabin, very comfy and cozy. Excellent location for visits to the Smoky Mountains. The hustle and bustle of Pigeon Forge is not my style, this place and location definitely was! Would highly recommend.

The most comfortable cabin that we have ever stayed in. It had a loveseat with recliners on both ends, a great bed, and a huge walk-in shower!

This was the perfect place for us to stay. Great location to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Cades Cove and Clingman’s Dome. It was clean, comfortable and a great home away from home.

Property was very cute and cozy! The only complaint I have which isn’t really a complaint is that I wish they had extra toilet paper and trash bags ready for us. If you need something extra you have to drive to their office and pick it up, would be nice if they dropped that off on porch or something! Other than that it was very nice stay!

We loved the cabin. It was in the perfect location and not too far up into the mountains. If you’re looking for something quiet this is the place for you. The only complaint we have is regarding a storm that came through that knocked out the power to our cabin. While we understand Mother Nature is out of our control, the lack of concern the rental company had was disheartening. We had a couple come to the cabin next to us who got forced out by weather and placed next to us. The rental company was aware of the power outage. They could have reached out to us to check in but I had to reach out to them. If you are looking for above and beyond customer service this is not the place for you. Despite the storm issues, we would stay here again as everything else was perfect! The only other thing I would change is adding chairs to the front porch of the cabin.

We absolutely loved our stay on our honeymoon at Playing Hooky. It had everything we needed to either stay in and be cozy, or relax after a long day out and about. The bed was very comfortable, and the walk-in shower was so luxurious. The only issue we had was the lack of total privacy in the bathroom, due to the open spaces in the upper walls. We worked around it though and had a wonderful stay!

Secluded in a nice location. Beautiful cabin. Everything was just perfect for us. We didn’t see bears on the property but did at Smoky Mnt. Park. We will be back! Thanks for making our 1st vacay in 5 years magical and first get away since my husband’s electrocution accident easy.

Great little cabin for two. We enjoyed the walk-in shower and the hottub. We didn't have to drive far into Pigeon Forge to get to the grocery store or attractions. Somewhat secluded with other cabins up the hill. The deck would of been more appealing with the weeds/grass cut around it and the little creek cleaned up a bit, that's our only negative. Overall, we loved the cabin, and will book again!
