Fully Restored 1886 Beach Cottage Close To Downtown Shops. Pelican Place, once featured on THIS OLD HOUSE, has all the comfort of today with the charm of yesteryear. Once a railroad office, the cottage was moved to the present site; the interior was gutted, deconstructed with structures salvaged and renovated, and then rebuilt with modern plumbing and wiring, central air and heat, and other modern comforts yet still retaining its period character.

The cottage is fully equipped for a care-free vacation: a huge, well stocked kitchen, comfortable living room with a 50 inch TV and entertainment center, games, movies, and Netflix. Sleep well in the comfortable beds. For your beach needs, there are an outside shower, beach chairs and toys, and even off street parking large enough for a boat.

Guest Access:
We offer convenient door codes for self-check-in. Chesapeake Properties by Portoro uses convenient keyless entry for self check-in, details provided 2 weeks (or less) prior to arrival by email and text message.

• Early check-ins or late check-outs: If the property happens to be ready earlier than the standard 4 pm check-in time on the day of your arrival, in most cases an early arrival option may be available when confirmed with the main office. Late check-outs must be confirmed with main office staff prior to the date of departure.

- All guests staying at an Chesapeake Properties Vacation Rentals by Portoro (Portoro Homes) are required to sign (esignature) a rental agreement and complete identity registration.
- Age restrictions apply. Reservation holder must be 25 years of age.
- Upon arrival, we aim to ensure your safety, proper access to the home, and guest features. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Chesapeake Properties by Portoro directly.
- Known damages incurred during your stay must be reported to the property manager immediately.
- Before check in, we will send you detailed directions to ensure a seamless arrival.
- Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Check-out time is 10:00 a.m.
- We cannot guarantee early check ins or late checkouts. When it is possible to check in early or check out late, there will be a fee for anything outside of a one hour window within our standard times. If your need for an early check in or late check out is great, your best option is to book an additional night.
- Some homes have cameras for external monitoring only.
- HOTEL TAX COLLECTION: In the State of Virginia and in Northampton County, all hotel and vacation rental hosts are required to collect hotel tax. We collect these taxes within the booking transaction.
- Some homes offer pools/hot tubs, or access to communal pools. There is no guard around the water features when available. Use at your own risk.
- This is a No Pets property. A daily rate fee of $150.00 will apply for violations and you may be asked to vacate the premises with no refund at the discretion of the Host.
- This is a No Smoking property. Penalty fees for violations will apply and you may be asked to vacate the premises with no refund at the discretion of the Host.
- For the safety of guests and the home, there are noise monitoring devices. These devices only measure the decibel level and do NOT record any audio.

Interaction with Guests:
Our goal is that your vacation exceed your expectations. Chesapeake Properties by Portoro communicates via email and phone. After a booking is confirmed, rental agreement will be emailed to the guest for e-signature. Check-in instructions are sent by email and text message 14 days (or less) prior to arrival date. We offer convenient keyless entry for self-check in. We do typically check in with guests by text 1-2 times during their stays to ensure a 5-star experience and remain available for any questions. We are available to guests 24/7 for any inquiries.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Wonderful house, but not for older people. Too hard to get upstairs. The hand rail was very flimsy at the top and felt loose. Otherwise the house had everything you could ever need . I would recommend the house to anyone that can do stairs easily. Location was awesome.walking distance to shops restaurants and beach. I could walk for miles. Navigating stairs was a problem for me

It was a bonus that it had a driveway to park our car so it wasn’t on the street. Chesapeake properties, very professional and easy to communicate with! We even locked herself out of the property one day and they responded very quickly to help us get back in, the welcome bag they supplied was Very helpful! It had paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, trash bags, dish soap to get you started for your week. The bathrooms all were supplied with hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash! My favorite feature in the kitchen was the icemaker machine on the counter! You could add bottled water and make your own ice!! We will definitely return again!

It's the perfect balance of charm and function makes this a place we return to year after year. The kitchen is always fully equipped. I am not sure how the owner's do it, but this house looks perfectly clean year after year. If you enjoy shopping and eating on Mason, I highly recommend this house because it is a short walk to everything. We vacation with two families with four kids total - perfect fit!

We spent some of every day on the beach and also enjoyed walking around Cape Charles and spent time at Kiptopkeke park and Wallops Island. We did have an issue with the door handles in the upstairs bedroom having loose set screws and the potential of not being opened from the inside of the room. This was insignificant for our trip but might be something to fix for future stays.

Reviewer Comments: It was a nice house had a casualty on the kitchen step should be marked better or put in a wedge so that you don't catch your foot . upstairs bath room the door knob came off trapping my husband in . Grille had no cord that fit the larger one of the 2 cord there did not fit . Out side of those minor thing the house was perfect for our group clen and the bed were comfy !!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved our stay at the Pelican Place. The kitchen is always stocked with necessary items. The Keurig machine is great, but the TWO bakeries within walking distance are the real winners. If you want to be close to the main drag, then Pelican Place is your house. We have stayed several times. The house is always clean. Parking on the property is a rare amenity in CC. We usually load up the car to drive to the beach, so the driveway is our savior! The outside shower helps get all the kids clean prior to house entry :)
