The reviews are not true. The property has not been kept up. The house looks NOTHING like the pictures. Floors are buckled, 1 of my guest tripped. The house is in disarray.
We loved this property and would rent from this owner again.
The house was big and was able to accommodate my entire group. The necessary necessities we there for use. However the house could use a good cleaning..
Our group of 7 each had our own beds, and could have had our own rooms, which was nice. The kitchen side doesn't have much climate control so the rooms on that end are cold in December. I slept in the room addition with the exit sign and it didn't bother me. The house was visibly clean but had several unpleasant smells. There were no eating utensils other than 1 plastic fork, a few plastic spoons, so bring your own. The showers had good water pressure and plenty of warm water for 7. Overall, an okay experience. Each of us paid what would have been about a 1.5-2 star motel price, and that is about the level of quality we got, so we felt we got what we paid for to have our own rooms and beds. The neighborhood was quiet and easy to get in and out.
The owner was attentive and quick to respond, initially. No problem with the check in. It has a lot of space & plenty of POTENTIAL. Based on the pictures, I expected the house to be old and not extremely updated, but I expected it to be CLEAN. When I messaged the owner about the ROACHES in the kitchen sink, he responded immediately and asked me to take pictures. I had immediately started cleaning the place because my other guests were already on their way so I didn't get pictures of the first roaches that I saw. When I sent him a pic of a later roach that I had sprayed with the almost empty can of roach spray that was already there, he pretended to not know what it was... But there were 2 almost empty cans of roach spray there, so he knew the place had roaches!! It looked as tho the bathrooms were cleaned up before my arrival, but so outdated. (And I say cleaned up very loosely). The rest of the house, on the other hand was terrible. The beds were not neatly made. As if someone just threw the covers back up (the way my teenaged son makes his bed). The furniture looked as if it was brought from the GoodWill and just dropped off (stains on the couches, rips in the chairs). The kitchen table didn't have matching chairs and the dining area had these random unmatching raggedy chairs that I took and stuck in a bedroom before my other guests could arrive. My sister and I had to wipe red dirt off the doors and breezeways, move the furniture around to make it SEEM more inviting. One room had a balled up cover on the couch, and pillows in the corner on the floor like someone had just been laying on the couch before I walked in and ran out the back door. I had to take those pillows and hide the rips in the chairs. The linen closet was (see pic) unorganized & we had to make one of the beds in the walk thru to make it look presentable. There were towels that were in the dryer, but still wet... And the worst part of all were the ROACHES!! I had to go on and do my dinner that night cooking and killing roaches because it was too late to cancel ??but I canceled our breakfast plans and did not use the kitchen anymore. My sister went home and brought her Keurig back so we could have coffee the next morning bc I would NOT DARE use their appliances! With a 6bedroom house, my sister and I slept on the couch!! Having paid almost $800 with fees for 2 nights, I slept on the couch, and did not even shower. My birthday weekend was officially ruined!
There was a lot of mold under the bathroom sinks which contributed to the odor in the house. A couple of roaches was found throughout the house. A baby bottle was found underneath the bed in one of the rooms. If these things could be taken care of this place would be ok based on the price. The other guest was very disappointed.
I wouldn't rent again
Good
House was clean and had plenty for rooms for our family. House was as described on VBRO. Owner replied when asked questions. Small den when there is 7 people. Older house with an addition that only has window unit to heat/cool 4 rooms. It would have been nice to know we needed to bring hand soap for sinks. There were plenty of big towels but not many wash clothes and no hand towels. We arrived super late and the heat was not turned on it was in upper 30s so it took awhile to for house to get warm.
Although the home was clean, if you are looking for a 4-star (or 5-star) home with all the trimmings, this is not the place. This old house is very austere, with very sparse furnishings. The mattresses / beds are all cheap and not very comfortable. The kitchen equipment is minimal at best and desperately needs a bottle/wine opener :) It is an affordable 'crash pad' but certainly not for hanging out and relaxing. I stayed there with 5 other men for which is was fine - I would never stay there with my wife. The owner is VERY responsible and returns phone calls and text very quickly.
