Stayed Jan 11, 2025We loved our time at 9 Degrees North in Uvita! We woke up every morning around sunrise to listen to and watch the animals - we saw toucans, hummingbirds, and so much more! The house was lovely and had everything we needed for cooking and relaxing at home. Yes, the drive is steep, but you get used to it, and this is common for any home rental in the rainforest with a view. This was our second trip to Uvita and this drive was easier than our rental from last year! Thanks to Trina and Jorge for their great communication and hospitality.

Stayed Feb 16, 2023Although the view was spectacular, the drive to the house was challenging and stressful. Not only is a 4X4 an absolute necessity, it helps to be a confident and experienced driver. Jorge was helpful and easily accessible, However, written detailed road directions would have been appreciated. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay in that well-appointed house.

Stayed Feb 1, 2023Spacious modern house on mountain overlooking the Pacific and whale tail reef. From deck saw toucans, parrots, macaws flying by. Enjoyed visit by neighbor coati. You can hear howler monkeys in the distance. Great pool. Very private. Jorge and Trina, property managers, were responsive and very helpful. Good surfing at Playa Chaman nearby.

Stayed Feb 23, 2022Beautiful location, very comfortable, love the views and environment... Waterfalls, beaches, animals all met or exceeded our expectations! Be prepared for a fun ride up the hill to get up the mountain... Make sure you have a good 4X4. Suzuki Ventura or equivalent worked fine for us. If more than 2 or 3 people a second 1/2 bathroom would have been nice... Easy to add a powder room near laundry room outside. Outside of that a fantastic experience! Would recommend to any adventurous visitor!

Stayed Nov 3, 2019My mom and I spent 2 weeks here. We slept and ate and sat on the porch watching the birds and animals and rain and tide and sunsets. We saw all sorts of birds including several pair of toucans, falcons, parrots, hummingbirds, and several I'm still looking up. Butterflies, cotys, lizards. We didn't see any monkeys around the house but we sure heard them. I think it was the troop that live down by the waterfall at the bottom of the road (which is worth visiting). It was quiet and perfect for what we needed. The house is great. The kitchen has enough to do some cooking, and eating out on the porch was a treat. The pool is just big enough to do some (very) short laps, and I went in almost every day. We grilled some fresh caught tuna we bought from a fisherman in Dominical. The dvd player was a nice extra - hadn't watched a movie in ages. The washer/drier was a definite plus since I found the humidity precluded me from wearing clothes more than once. Tina, the property manager, is a jewel - she was very helpful and attentive and nearby. As for the road - it is 15 minutes of steep rough switchbacks, but it is very manageable. We probably won't rent a house with that long of a road to get to again, but it was fine for us on this trip since we didn't go out everyday. Ironically, driving it at night was easier since you can see headlights coming around the tight turns. If you are a wimp driving, this might not be the house for you, but otherwise, you'll be fine, especially if you plan to hang out at the house a lot. Just think of the road as part of the adventure. I recommend eating at Los Laurelas at the bottom of the hill (we didn't but it comes highly recommended) and Pizza Time. As for the waterfall - go in on the BOTTOM entrance - there is a butterfly garden and is easier to get to the falls. the upper entrance is run separately by the restaurant and has steep steps down (and back up). As for groceries, we shopped at the BM just south of where the road comes out in Uvita. It's bigger and has a pretty good selection. Two different atms in town kept us well stocked with colones (if you have a Fidelity or Swab debit card, there are no fees). If you need a doctor (we did), there's a wonderful one right there (behind the Dome). Ask Trina for his number. This is a great place to stay and we highly recommend this house and this region of CR. Enjoy!

Stayed Jan 25, 2019Loved our stay. View from the deck and inside of the house was stunning! House was well equipped with everything with needed. Very private. Caretakers Patrick and Trina were also wonderful. Steep drive up for sure, but stunning views as a result. One of our favorites was Uvita falls early in morning as we basically had the falls and pool to ourselves for a bit.

Stayed Jul 7, 2018We truly enjoyed our stay at 9 Degrees North!! If you are looking for a wonderful, cozy home to relax and enjoy the mountains this is it! The views from the lovely deck and pool were absolutely amazing, especially watching the Whales Tail disappear and re-appear with the tides. The deck was a wonderful place to enjoy meals and morning coffee while watching various birds. The beds were very comfortable and the A/C units kept the house very cool. The living room was cozy and came equipped with dozens of family friendly DVD's and family games. The house had a nice modern kitchen with everything we needed to prepare meals and there were 2 grocery stores at the bottom of the hill that had a good selection of food. It was nice to have free WiFi service to catch up on emails and social media. Trina the home's caretaker was lovely. She gave us lots of ideas for things to do and great places to eat! You'll definitely need to rent a 4x4 and as getting up the mountain was quite the trek - no need to do an ATV adventure as getting back and forth everyday is an adventure! The waterfalls near the bottom of the hill were very nice and the Nauyaca Waterfalls are a must do if you are in good shape and can handle getting down the rugged path. We enjoyed exploring and going to different towns and beaches everyday. We discovered a lot of great restaurants high up in the mountains with amazing views. The locals Ticos as they call themselves were all very friendly and we felt very safe. All in all Costa Rica was amazing and we would definitely return and would recommend this house to anyone!!
