Birmingham, Alabama
Summary:
Take a step back in time in this delightfully retro and unbelievably stylish home. This special Birmingham retreat is vibrant, inviting, and comfortable. Conveniently located in Crestwood, Oak House is a quick drive from Avondale, Lakeview, Downtown, and the airport. It sleeps up to 4 guests in 2 bedrooms - one queen and one king - and it is pet-friendly, too! Please add pets as adults in guest count when booking to cover the pet fee.
The Space:
You’ll love being in this picture-perfect Crestwood bungalow! You’ll be welcomed by the lush landscaping, full of native flowers and trees. As you step onto the front porch, you’ll immediately be taken back and want to relax on the rocker or swing. Head inside, where the real fun begins! The living room is hip, vibrant, and fun! Enjoy hanging out, watching your favorite show, or playing a game from our collection.
The two bedrooms sit immediately opposite the living room. The front bedroom is bright and chic. You or your guests will love the queen-sized bed with an assortment of pillows for all sleeping types and organic cotton sheets.
A small hallway divides the two bedrooms. The primary bedroom is inviting, soothing, and airy. With a king-sized memory foam bed and the same assortment of pillows and organic sheets, you will sleep like a dream. A separate workspace is perfect in case you need to work while you are with us, and a walk-in closet provides all the storage space you’ll need.
Back through the living room, the main hallway connects you to the bathroom and separate dining area and kitchen. The bathroom cheerfully mixes past and present. Enjoy a soak in the vintage tub or take a nice shower using our regionally-sourced shampoo, body wash, and conditioner: they smell amazing! If you need to do laundry while you are with us, help yourself to the full-sized washer and dryer. Detergent is provided.
At the rear of the house, you’ll find the dining area and kitchen, which are open to each other, making cooking, catching up, and eating super convenient. Bright, colorful, and full of windows overlooking the backyard, you’ll love being in these spaces. The fully-stocked kitchen has everything you could ever need to cook a delicious meal. And, we hope you’ll really enjoy our free locally-roasted coffee, locally-blended assortment of teas, and hot cocoa. A separate snack bar offers assorted treats to purchase if you want a quick bite and don’t want to head out.
Once you cook that delicious meal (or order it from one of the great local restaurants), gather around the dining table to enjoy it. With seating for up to 8, there’s enough room for everyone, and if it’s a nice day, open the sliding doors to take in the fresh air.
Step outside the dining room onto a small deck with access to the relaxing, fully fenced backyard. Take a nap in the hammock, admire the native plants, tend to the garden, or gather with friends in the adirondack chairs next to the charcoal grill.
Pets are allowed — please be sure to include them as adults when you book.
Guest Access:
Guests have full access to the house and yard. Please help yourself to anything you might need. There is a storage shed and workshop/garage at the rear of the house, which are off-limits to guests and for our staff use only. We are available via messenger or phone if you have any issues or need anything during your stay.
The Neighborhood:
Crestwood is a diverse, friendly, welcoming neighborhood, which offers a wonderful balance of neighborhood feel with near-downtown convenience. One of the first suburbs of Birmingham, Crestwood has a lovely mix of homes, parks, sidewalks, and neighborhood shopping areas -- be sure to check out Crestwood Park, which is great for dogs and kids, and the Crestwood Shopping Center, which has some of our favorite stores, including Thank You Books and Urban Suburban, as well as a great coffee shop, brewery and small grocery. The neighborhood is between Avondale, with its fun mix of breweries, restaurants, event spaces, and coffee shops, and Woodlawn, with its revitalizing historic district and popular Woodrow Hall. And, its an easy drive to downtown and the airport -- within 10 minutes, you can be just about anywhere.
Guests should note that there are a couple of train tracks, which run through the neighborhood, including one at the end of the street. You can see and hear the train from the house. You will hear industrial noises, including from the trains and metal moving from the nearby recycling plant. If you are used to living in places with some ambient noise, we find they recede into the background once you settle inside the house and aren’t a problem; however, if you are sensitive to noises or seeking a really quiet space, this is not the listing for you — check out one of our Avondale houses instead.
Getting Around:
If you will have a car, the house has plenty of free, on-street parking in front of it. For those visiting without access to a car, uber/lyft are super convenient, and it is easy to bike from our house to parks, food, and entertainment in Avondale or Crestwood.
From the house, you can get to the airport in fewer than 10 minutes and most places downtown in 10-15 minutes. If you are passing through town, the house is easily accessed by 20/59.
Interaction with Guests:
This is a private rental, so the house is yours to enjoy without interruption. If you need anything or have questions during your stay, we are available to help.
