To summarize, this rental was dirty and quite frankly unsafe! The water filter was clogged with sludge. The doors were smeared with grime. The picnic table outside had food smeared on it and something that looked like blood - I can only imagine is was fish guts. The floors are rotted and you step into holes in most areas of the house - one area you could see through to the outside daylight. There were roaches crawling in the kitchen drawers. The upstairs game room/bedroom reeked of alcohol (like walking into an old bar).I rented this home to celebrate my son's birthday, but it was so awful that I ended up leaving early. When I contacted the owner and requested a refund, he said no. I wasn't even offered a refund of the cleaning fee. Nothing.To top it off, I was initially told that I wouldn't be able to check-in on time because of the cleaning lady who was going to be running late on getting the house cleaned. l specifically told him not to rush and that I would prefer to check-in late and arrive to a clean house. Also, when I spoke with the owner about the problems (and even shared the photos that I had taken to show him the problems - just in case he wasn't aware), he told me that the floors were damaged due to termites.Unless you don't care about staying in a disgusting house, I would stear clear of renting this property.I've never had to write such a review, but I sincerely believe that this rental should be removed from VRBO's booking sight.

Good location, good boat parking. Should consider boat lift usage in the price of the house. Back patio and dock are nice with a good fishing cleaning station. A couple weak spots in the bathroom floor that were concerning and house could use a deep clean.

It was Homie, had a lot of places to sleep, clean, we enjoyed are weekend! Will be coming back again!

The Reel Retreat was the perfect place for our extended family to get together. The location is perfect on the river and near everything you need. We happen to be traveling there right after a hurricane passed through and the owner communicated with us immediately and we really appreciate all the effort! I highly recommend this place!

We have family out from Arizona and wanted to bring them to matagorda. They loved it and the home is larger than expected, plenty of things for entertainment. Way more than what is listed. It was very comfortable and very clean, minutes from town and minutes to the best and best of all right on the water. We definitely will be returning to this rental.

Neighbors were very close and when there was a big group could be loud next door. Not a good place for little ones because of stairs and layout
