Friday Harbor, Washington
A quiet retreat on 5 acres, our house is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the Islands. Stroll among the stately Garry Oaks and old-growth Douglas Firs while admiring views of Mt. Constitution and Mt. Baker. Enjoy meadow wildflowers in the Spring, turning leaves in the Fall, or bask on the deck in the warm Summer climate of the San Juans. Whale-watching by Lime Kiln Lighthouse or long walks on South Beach are minutes away by car. We hope you fall in love with the Island just as we have. Two bedrooms and a twin daybed make this the perfect rental for a small family getaway. Our house has two bathrooms: one with a claw foot tub and one with a shower. Also equipped with a dishwasher and wood stove. Please enquire about hot tub availability.
We've started many times at the Rhubarb House. It is always a wonderful experience!
Family in town from Pittsburgh and wanted us all to see a new part of my home in the Northwest so a San Juan Island experience was in order! A great property and space that is about 10 minutes from Friday Harbor, secluded, quiet and tranquil. Easy access and the photos of the inside don't do it justice, this place has a nice, full kitchen and common space with excellent decks. Blythe the manager is very responsive and kind...even though the front door locks are a challenge! Highly recommended overall and will likely return on next visit to the area!
The home and property were a perfect place to stay for our family of four with our golden retriever. The home slept the four of use comfortably and was filled with lots of trinkets which made for its charm. Our dog loved the large back yard area and could run freely. There was a swing in one of the trees that our daughters used everyday while playing in the yard. The house was tucked away from other homes and quite secluded. If you want total privacy make sure to check on also renting the small guest house located right next door with a hot tub. The house was surrounded by beautiful flowers and lots of wildlife, such as deer, bald eagles, etc. The location was center to all the beaches, whale watching sites (Lime Kiln Lighthouse), and Friday Harbor. It was a great place to stay and we will definitely be back in the future!
There was possible e-coli in the water. We were supplied with bottled water, but one of the containers was so heavy it took both of us and some tools to maneuver it. We were never able to access the television or electronics - they were very old.
We really liked this house! I brought my nephews here to celebrate the youngest's graduation from high school. They had a blast! We actually didn't end up spending a ton of time at the property, but it is in a good location and had everything we needed. Communication with the owner was good. I would like to come here again and spend more time at the house.
This was our second stay at this beautiful haven on San Juan Island. Last year, we fell in love with the island and this place, in particular. This year only reinforced how much we love island living, but also the experience of being in this peaceful setting. The house is the perfect blend of modern amenities and warm, rustic design and feel. The surrounding acreage is a lovely playground for pups/people. Its location is convenient to pretty much the entire island, being less than 10 minutes from Friday Harbor restaurants and ferry, and little more than that to parks both south and north, as well as Roche Harbor. The filtered views of the Olympic mountains and the Haro Strait are a bonus. Hopefully we can come back and stay again.
We had such a wonderful stay that we didn’t want to leave! The house is so warm and inviting, with all the touches of home and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The property is wonderful to walk and explore as well, especially if you have a pup with you like we did. Can’t wait to stay here again!
What a gem! The property is just wonderful. My dog was in heaven-free to run and chase balls. The house is a little quirky which is (mostly) charming. I had to laugh tho. Caroline must have been tall! I am not. In the mirror, I saw the top of my head. TV is kind of non existant. I remember that TV from the 90's. Couldn't work it. But, good WIFI to stream on laptop and work. It went out of few times, but not for long. Really nice young couple rented the smaller cottage next door, so I can't comment on the spa or fire pit as it wasn't available to us. The house is very cozy. I read in the reading nook and on the porch. This house is for readers. But please, replace the couch! Can't wait to go back and stay longer.
The cabin was perfect for our group of four, and our dog really enjoyed playing catch on the 5 acres of property surrounding.
This eclectic cabin was the perfect touch to our weekend getaway that we booked kind of last minute to celebrate 4 milestone birthdays with friends! Communication with Blythe was easy and helpful. We even ordered a Hello Fresh box of meals to be delivered to the front door on our first day, which arrived seamlessly. The kitchen had everything that we could ever need in terms of preparing meals - although it did take a bit to find things in all of the drawers and cupboards. :) Labels would be a nice touch, but not necessary. The location worked out well to drive to any spot on the island pretty easily - we also brought electric bikes and one wheels, and could easily charge them on the deck and take them out to various excursions. Loved the hammock swing on the porch! Having the cabin booked the same time as the studio next door - we didn't have any issues with the other renters (we barely saw them), but we would have loved to have use of the hot tub! It would have just been an extra perk at the end of long days of exploring. We knew that wasn't part of our rental, though. Having the option of a fire pit would be lovely, too. Loved all of the board games, books, and cozy nooks. The bed downstairs was comfortable, but it had squeaky springs, and was loud on the tile floors because it moved easily when you sat on it, or rolled over in bed (not something we're used to). Our friends said the bed upstairs seemed to have a bit hump in it, but they slept decently. We would recommend future renters bring slippers or cozy socks to wear around the house - especially on the cooler tile floors, since the house is shoe free. It would be more comfortable to have a window covering on the bathtub window and small bathroom window by the front door - especially for ladies using the shower, but not a deal breaker. We were grateful to have a welcoming spot to come home to after each of our adventures, and none of us wanted to leave! Thank you for sharing your family home with us.
The house is a very comfortably constructed and furnished. The kitchen is very well equipped. It is a little difficult to locate which drawers contain what utensils, napkins, placemats, etc., but this is a very minor problem. The upstairs has a couple of quirks. The wonderful bathtub has no curtains and looks out on the neighbor's deck (granted some distance away). A little more privacy would be nice. There are many sweet touches to this obviously beloved house. And it was wonderful that our (adult) kids could bring their dogs!
very cozy home. beautiful property.
Had a great stay at the rustic farmhouse even though we were not there very much. It was perfect, quiet and comfy.
Suited our needs perfectly. Loved all the books and the sharing of a beloved family recipe for Rhubarb pie.
It’s a bit hard to put into words how much we enjoyed this place, how calming the land was, how you could feel the warmth of the home from the moment we walked in. But after looking at the photo album that documents how it was built; how much sweat, and probably just a bit of blood and tears as well, but above all, how much love went into building it for the owner’s family, it’s easy to understand why we felt that way. It’s a special home, on a special island. We can’t wait to go back.
