Fayetteville, West Virginia
About this space
Need to unwind and like to live among the locals, Rick Steves style Us too.
The Mountain Escape is in a blue collar West Virginia "holler" or one way valley with dark skies, wildlife, a creek, and a fire pit. The New River is right behind us over a mountain, but town is only 15 minutes away. Wifi is 650+ mbps.
Our super friendly neighbors (and neighbor dogs) are very likely to stop and say hi!
It's a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty & culture of West Virginia. Welcome!
The space
This is the newest house in the neighborhood, a 3 bedroom/2 bath ranch with a large front porch with a porch swing and a table to eat at. The back porch is smaller and has a table for food prep or seating and two hammocks.
Most houses are from the Brooklyn coal mine, this was a "coal camp". The few larger houses were bosses and the doctor.
Inside is full of art, Rachel can't help but paint murals (there are 3) and add artful touches.
The master has a king bed, a tv, and an en suite bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen bed and many games in the closet.
The kids' room has the coolest bunk bed you've seen: a full bed on top of a full with a twin trundle - they'll love it! Plus there's a coal mine themed escape room in it!
This is our house when we're not traveling, so it's well equipped, especially the kitchen. Please note the master closet is locked with our belongings in it.
Guest access
The whole place is yours! Well, except the master closet, our stuff had to go somewhere. =)
The house is on 4 acres with the largest yard in the neighborhood, it's great for ultimate frisbee and other games, if you don't mind a slight grade (nothing is flat in WV!)
There's a lovely creek in the backyard to explore, and a back road on the other side of it you can go for a walk on. We do that most mornings.
Other things to note
Please note there are several dogs that roam the neighborhood (ours are two when we're home), they are all friendly! Approach them gently of course. =) Our house is a cultural experience!
If you are looking for a more suburban setting, check out the Game House and the Wizard House in Oak Hill which are also ours.
