Stayed Nov 13, 2025We had a wonderful stay at this property. I was in the area for work and decided to bring my family along for the holiday, and the home was a perfect fit for both. It’s a very short and easy walk to beautiful Kailua Beach, which made it incredibly convenient for daily outings. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and it truly felt like a home away from home. The owner and property manager were both extremely responsive and helpful whenever we had questions. The owner’s son and dog, who live on the property, were very friendly and welcoming while still fully respecting our privacy, which we really appreciated. Overall, this was a great experience, and we would absolutely recommend this property to anyone visiting Kailua.

Stayed Oct 12, 2025Our family had a very good time at this property. Lisa answered all of our questions and her son Adam and the property manager Debra were also nice and helpful. We have stayed many times in Kailua and this location was the best! The kitchen was well stocked. They had everything that we needed. The beds were comfortable. Just a great vacation all around.

Stayed Mar 12, 2025We enjoyed our stay. The location is wonderful; just a short walk to the beach. Kailua beach is absolutely lovely for beach walks, sunning, or just relaxing. The home is very spacious. We used the covered patio in back for dinner as well as working. It has a ceiling fan that feels great and helps keep the flies away while dining. The backyard is large and well kept. The owners son, Adam and his dog Finn, were pleasant to have around. Finn is super friendly with kids and adults. The home is old. The 2nd bathroom has been updated but the master has not been. The home is clean but could use updating of the master bath. There is very little room around the sink. There is a small glass ledge on the wall for items, but I needed to put my toiletries on the dresser right outside of the bathroom. We had no issues with spiders but we did have small lizards on occasion in the house which didn't bother us but can take you by surprise! The washer and dryer was nice to have but both were very old. We had no issues with either. The kitchen is well outfitted with nearly everything you need. The sink plumbing is old so food items the need disposing of need to go in the trash rather than the garbage disposal. Hawaii is famous for tiny bugs on kitchen counters so you need to keep counters free of any open food. The beds were comfortable and have ceiling fans in 2 out of 3 bedrooms was nice. The third bedroom could use one too. We had a very relaxing vacation st this property.

Stayed Dec 15, 2024Our family of five had a perfect Christmas at Hale Makai. Kailua is our happy place, and this property put us exactly where we wanted to be. Our routine was simple - coffee on the Lanai, walk on the beach, breakfast on the Lanai, back to the beach, etc.We have stayed in quite a few VRBOs, this was one of the best. The kitchen had everything we needed, the laundry was great, plenty of towels for both the house and the beach, beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkel gear. Plenty of cards and games (look in the wicker chest) for the evenings. The house was large enough for people to spread out, with plenty of seating in the common areas to bring people together. The louvered windows made it easy to keep the tradewinds moving through the house, we only ran the A/C on a couple humid nights. There is a door between the bedrooms and living room so making coffee doesn't wake everyone. The house was quieter than we expected for being on a busy road, especially the back yard. Both the owner and on-island property manager were responsive and easy to work with. Check-in and check-out were a breeze.Overall a fantastic experience, we hope to stay here again.

Stayed Dec 12, 2023We stayed for a month and had a fabulous experience. The location cannot be beat and this was the most well equiped place we've ever stayed at. There was nothing we would change. The kitchen was fully stocked and it was very helpful to have a washer and dryer. There were plenty of beach chairs, towels, snorkeling equipment and a wagon to haul it all to the beach a short walk away. Lastly, the beds were all very comfortable. I walked the Lanikai loop every morning and many times saw the most beautiful sunrises. We'll be back!

Stayed Mar 1, 2023The house was very spacious and clean, the kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glassware, cutlery and all the cooking utensils etc. you would need. Beautiful backyard. The house is exactly 250 Steps to a beautiful beach. Debra the Property Manager was wonderful, she was friendly and very helpful, addressed any questions and concerns we had promptly. We stayed 32 days and were sad to leave this Island Paradise.

Stayed Aug 4, 2022My husband and I wanted to truly immerse ourselves in our family and the town we were going to travel to for one month. We brought our 4 & 2 year old to Kailua and were gifted with such an incredible time at Lisa's home. Immediately, we felt comfortable and set up with everything we needed and more. For four weeks, we did our best to take advantage of every second we had in Hawaii - the kayaks, the lanai/grill, the distance to the beach - nothing could have been more perfect! Our boys quickly acclimated to the time change and it wasn't long before they were mistaken for local beach kids building sand castles and riding the waves with all the provided toys. We genuinely cannot express how incredible this vacation was and we owe it in part to our wonderful stay. We opted not to rent a car, but to purchase bikes and a bike trailer for our boys to ride in - which worked out FANTASTICALLY. We decided to leave the bikes in the garage as our gift to future guests at the home, hoping they, too can ride around Kailua or over to Lanikai beach with ease. We were able to go to the neighborhood market every Sunday, make grocery runs and catch happy hours in Kailua town just a short mile away on our bikes - riding through the surrounding neighborhoods was an extra treat getting to see all of the landscapes and beautiful homes. I'm not sure there's anything we didn't cover in our stay, but it will not take us long to plan a trip back. We certainly did not want to leave. A BIG bonus for us was Finn, the dog that lives in the guesthouse with his owner, Adam. Finn made it feel even more at home for us because of how much we missed our dogs! We are so grateful for Lisa and her family allowing us to move in for the month before all of the chaos of school and normal life started back home. If you are considering making a trip to Hawaii, I highly recommend you check out what Kailua has to offer. We will be talking about this trip for the rest of our days! Thank you!!
