Moe and Jo’s Haus at the Rocking MJ Ranch has a history as unique as the Texas Hill Country
A charming, secluded cabin awaits you tucked amidst live oak trees that have stood for generations on this Tex-German Hill Country ranch. This unique cabin echoes another time. In fact, it was modeled after the officers’ quarters of the Texas Frontier forts.
Its simple appointments and roomy bedrooms provide comfort during your stay. You will enjoy your time here watching the deer and birds who feed near the cabin. Watch the sunset from the comfortable porches or make the most of all that the New Braunfels area has to offer. The cabin is conveniently located near the crystal blue waters of the Guadalupe River and Canyon Lake and all of its Amenities.
While we can only imagine where the Apache and later Comanche tribal groups may have camped on the Rocking MJ Ranch -- the presence of arrowheads indicates that they hunted and stayed on this land at one time. For the last 120 years, the ranch has been in the Jonas/Schwab family. Historically, the ranch was used as grazing land for Hereford cattle and a hard-scrabble home for Angora, and later, Spanish and Boer goats.
Around the turn of the twentieth century, the ranch had been home to a cedar chopper family who “sharecropped” cedar in exchange for rent to live on the Rocking MJ Ranch. In fact, some of the cedar posts that hold up the front and back porches of Moe and Jo’s Haus came from trees that surrounded the dirt-floor “lean-to” home of that cedar chopper family.
The most dynamic features of the ranch are the scrub live oaks, cedar lined ravines and steppe-like limestone and caliche uplifts, and friendly yard ornaments Tex and Rex the Longhorn Cattle who reside at the ranch.
Moe and Jo’s Haus is named for the previous owners, the parents of the current owners. Moe and Jo Schwab were the fourth generation of the Jonas/Schwab family to own this picturesque place. They ranched and tended this Hill Country ranch for more than 60 years. It’s now open to couples and families for a retreat and relaxing vacation.
You will never forget your stay at this cozy cabin in one of the most beautiful parts of Texas.

Loved loved loved this place! Have already booked additional stays!
Property was perfect to stay, super clean and the beds are out of this world comfy , super nice location and nice restaurants close by, we love the longhorn bulls, we will book this place again soon ...
Lovely home on a beautiful piece of property. Fenced yard was great for our fur babies.
Wow. Just wow. What a great spot to recharge the batteries. The property was amazing. And I can’t wait to book again!!!
Good location, nice house, comfortable bed, great porch time, peaceful surroundings, nice sturdy fenced-in yard for the dogs. Suggestions for improvement-living room furniture was not comfortable, chairs on the porch were not comfortable either. The floor needed to be a bit cleaner. Overall, it was an awesome place to stay. I highly recommend this location for your next vacation/adventure. The cows came over every day to visit with us.
The house was clean and the property was beautiful. We enjoyed walking and going for jogs on the property. The location is great. You’re a short drive to many things to do. The only cons: Some of the pots and pans were not fully clean. The property is peaceful but there is a nearby road where you hear the frequent car traffic. Overall the place is great and we really enjoyed our stay. Great value.
It was a great place to just get away and relax which is what I was needing. We enjoyed the longhorns and the deer.
Absolutely loved the property, out of the beaten path, quiet, relaxing. Loved the deer who visited in the morning and the Longhorns were very curious about us. Would definitely stay here again.
The stay in this beautiful home was nice. The description is accurate as far as the cabin itself and all of the amenities. The check in was a little rough for us since it was dark. Although it says to check in at your convenience, I would suggest arrive during daylight. We did not find the cabin as easily as described. Due to that, the longhorns came up to our vehicle. We were between the first gate and the second gate trying to get in. Since we had our dogs (which we paid additional cost per day), they came up to us (both longhorns and some cows) and wanted to investigate the dogs. We had to get out of the vehicle to open the gate. Well, it was a little scary for us (we have no longhorn experience). We called the line and they helped us navigate to the correct area. During our stay we stayed within the gated area and were not able to walk the grounds (we were hoping to find some arrowheads as described). The longhorns were always there and we just didn't feel comfortable walking into their space. I would like people to know if you are not familiar with large cattle and how to behave or pet them, this could be a bit overwhelming. The location and home was great, but for us particularly, it was not as relaxing as we had hoped it would be. I give them 4 stars because they did offer to help us until we were inside the cabin area and felt safe.
Will stay here everytime we can
This place was perfect to get away from the busy city life. We needed some quiet and open space to just chill. The longhorns on the property were amazing and enjoyed our coffee and breakfast with them! Lol
Everything was great! Thanks
