MIssoula, Montana
Designed by world famous architect Richard Neutra in 1950 as a "Hollywood home dropped in the Rockies," the Mosby House, a unique and (literally) airy house perched in the south hills of Missoula, has stunning wraparound views of the Valley and the mountains all around. The
The open plan creates an incredible spacious feeling, and enormous sliding windows bring you in full contact with the outdoors: cool and breezy in the summer, and-- with a wood-burning stove in the living room-- a warm and cozy retreat to watch the weather roll in, in the winter. We've decorated with a "handmade modern" feeling to make the most of the space (and the climate).
Four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a huge office adjoining the master bedroom; a bright balcony, sunny flagstone patio and big, sweeping lawns on three sides; private driveway with expansive adjacent community park; new Bluestar 36" culinary stove; new Bosch dishwasher, fridge, washer, dryer; tall wide and handsome (and completely restored) kitchen with views onto Mount Sentinel and Missoula valley; bright, cozy, art-filled breakfast nook; good sledding hill, fruit trees, shade trees— all make this a unique getaway for: autumnal colors, ski season, lilac spring, or high summer.
You can walk onto the Highlands Golf course right above us, or hike up nearby Mt. Sentinel and Crazy Canyon in the summer. Or X-Country ski out the back door, or drive up the road to Pattee Canyon Ski Area, and warm yourself at our huge stone fireplace afterwards. Overlooking the University District, very close to shopping centers, great coffee shops (we recommend Clyde, Drumm, and Black Coffee), restaurants, a short drive or bus to downtown, 25 minutes to Snobowl, 20 minutes to airport, 10 minutes and you're at a cutbank above the Bitterroot, Clarkfork or Blackfoot rivers.
There is a master bedroom with a queen (and adjoining master bath), , and in the upstairs " bedroom wing"-- two guest rooms with queen beds, and a pretty center room with twin beds-- good for kids, tweens, and kid-sized adults. There's also several cozy couches. Four Bathrooms (three showers, two baths), many amenities for kids (including play area, doll houses, etc), wifi/broadband internet, etc. Wood stove Fireplace. Picnic Table. Gas Grill for BBQ....
We have done so much to bring this unique home back to its original glory-- burnishing a diamond in the rough, and, well, the rough was darn nice to begin with!

Charming
The house was great. Plenty of room. The view was amazing!
The views there were million dollar. Very roomy house full of what VRBO calls Retro. Couches were very old, like 60ish and not comfortable to sit it. Huge kitchen very well equipped but cabinets will stress your back to open No handles. Had to bend over to open especiallly the bottom drawer. The trash receptacle had a string attached to it to pull to make access easier! Master bed in basement had mattress on the floor. No blinds or curtains. Looks like its still under retro fitting. Owner had a collection of very weird stuff. I call it garage sale clutter. Looked inside one book on coffee table that I thought was inappropriate, even me for! I would not stay there again.
Just needs some TLC, microwave and bed frames.
The house was wonderful. Everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed ourselves very much!
We had 3 adult couples stay in the property and it accommodated our needs perfectly. Each couple had their own room and bath with comfortable beds and linens. The kitchen is large and lends itself well to entertaining, as does the open living and dining rooms with large sliding patio door to the deck and city views. Large windows being the outside in for wildlife watching including more deer than you can count! There is also a back patio that used to be the pool (now filled in) that is a great area for outdoor barbequing and relaxing. The owners were responsive and accommodating.
Told on arrival checkin would be 2 hours late. Entry stairs are crumbling stone and uneven height with no handrail and no lights at night. My wife injured hamstring climbing down at night. Old picture window had severe cracks, feared kids would push it and get hurt or worse. Beautiful kitchen and views, and prompt communication.
Property kitchen well equipped and nice property. Loved the constant deer in the yard all day.
The house was very comfortable and spacious.
Great accommodations. Comfy beds, chef’s kitchen, spacious! AC was very nice to have as temps were in the 90s. The art work was definitely a conversation starter!
Overall, enjoyed the stay! View is amazing. Kitchen and supplies were excellent. Bedrooms / Baths were comfortable / watching the deer was a highlight.
Loved the place
