Greenville, South Carolina
Dog-friendly house is undergoing renovations on the balcony and pool area outside, but the inside of the house is fully renovated. Your dog will be crated or in the fenced yard while you explore the surrounding area. The period furniture will inspire those who appreciate vintage living at its best. Sit on the expansive balcony and watch migratory birds on 500 feet of waterfront. 10 minutes from downtown Greenville, 10 minutes from Traveler’s Rest, 5 minutes from Furman and 1 minute to Publix. The home was renovated in 2019 with new wiring, plumbing and kitchen. Please note that exterior maintenance and renovations are ongoing, and any visitors acknowledge there will be workers onsite to manage the vast property. However, nobody will enter the house. This outside property may not be suitable for small children, or the careless, as the property has water hazards, drop-offs and other features making for a dramatic view of the natural paradise. Also, dogs are not allowed on furniture or beds, and you will be charged a steep fee to pay for damage done by the dog.
Built in 1955, the house has a large yard with acreage. The house was recently re-wired, re-plumbed and outfitted with smoke alarms and a new HVAC to help make your stay comfortable and secure. There is a 65" TV with digital antenna and additional televisions in the living room and master bedroom. Exterior security cameras on the property for your peace of mind. This is a retro experience that artists and history buffs will love. More than 50 vintage light fixtures were carefully restored. Furniture all original to the house or procured in the spirit of its original mid-century appointment. The kitchen and baths are fully modern and the house has everything you'll need to be comfortable.
Take a hike on the private hiking trail and find solitude along the shore with plenty of migratory birds, turtles, deer, woodchucks and beaver. This house is not appropriate for rough-and-tumble individuals or those who are not accustomed to the simplicity of mid-century modern homes. Hikers will love the private hiking trail. Hunting is strictly prohibited on this watershed nature preserve.
Richard was a responsive and pro active host. He responded to my every comment by immediate improvement to his already awesome house. His comfortable house is full of nostalgic appliances and furnishings, but his stuff never made me feel like i was afraid of breaking things. The house feels really homey. There is a small wetland behind the house where the lake was drained that attracts wild birds and turtles, we even saw small wild animals like gopher, hedgehog, squirrel in the yard. These wild animal sightings are exciting to me cause there are not natural wild animals in hawaii, where i have lived my whole life. This is a house that i would return to.
Beautiful property rich in history and generational belongings. Not a luxury resort but clean, quiet, quirky and oh so interesting! Probably my favorite VRBO stay so far!!!
Great house and location! Amazing Host! The house is big and every room is filled with something special. Truly one of a kind stay! I loved all the vintage trinkets and appliances. My group enjoyed mornings and evenings on the huge porch overlooking the pond which is home to many beautiful birds. Appreciated the hosts attention to detail because this place really has everything you could think of. Wish we could’ve stayed longer! We have family in the area so we will definitely be back!
If you rent this property, you need to know that the house has not been completely renovated. Yes, the 2 (not 4) bathrooms have been updated with new tile and the kitchen has new appliances and paint. The interior of the house was comfortable and we all slept well. We had no problems with heat or hot water. However the exterior was a “no go” zone for us. The wobbly flagstones on the front walkway would be impossible to navigate by wheelchair or walker and were difficult for an elderly guest. The pool is full of water, covered by a tarp held in place by bricks, not fenced and just plain scary. The driveway has a junkyard feel with a derelict pickup, derelict skiff, pile of old heating duct, and stacks of more wobbly flagstones. The balcony was unusable with railing no more than 30” high and a hazard for adults and children alike. And the paint on every exterior wood surface was peeling. If this property was fully renovated, it would be a dream.
This place is very cozy, gives you that lake house feeling and we loved the decor, it takes you back in time to a better and simpler time. Great host communicates very well.
If you're thinking of staying at this beautiful lake front home, you've made a great choice! I was fortunate enough to get to spend two months here with my husband and three small children and we all had a wonderful time. Our host was so very kind and gracious and supportive of us in a time when we were waiting for our new home to be finished. He was very accommodating when we had to change our trip end date and we could not have asked for a better experience. Whether I was enjoying some quiet time watching the sun rise over the lake or taking my kids to visit the family of ducks that live there, I found myself in awe of the beautiful surroundings. There's even a racoon that you can see running back and forth from the water to the tree line, if you spend enough time on the enormous back porch. The house is very vintage and unique but has also been updated with all the modern comforts. It's also located in a wonderful part of Greenville that's very convenient to both the city and the mountains. I really wish I was a better writer because I know this review doesn't do it justice. 100 stars!! I can't wait to go back!!!
We traveled to Greenville to visit family, Richard went above and beyond helping us get settled with lodging. Thank you so much!!!
Property is in a very quiet area on beautiful Lake Bruce. It was extremely clean and spacious. The amenities were great. (We loved the Kirks wash and have purchased for our own home)
