⭐️ ABOUT SALIDA ⭐️
Salida is THE place to ramp up your adventure meter and blow the gauge far off the high end of the fun scale. Do you want to zip-line, snowmobile, horseback ride, ski or snowboard, soak in a hot spring or absorb an art gallery, eat at a great restaurant, drink a fabulous local wine, beer or distilled liquor, go 4 wheeling or ATVing, visit a ghost town, go whitewater rafting or kayaking, rock and gem hunt, cycle or mountain bike, camp, golf, or fish, climb a 14'er, hike or hunt, listen to music outdoors or go to a fabulous festival Then High Country Heaven is THE place to be.
Salida, Colorado's largest Historic District, is a close-knit, friendly community that wholly embraces energetic, peaceful, laid back lifestyles. The beautiful & charming town of 5,900 people is a short distance from the famed Rainbow Hiking Trail; offers world class mountain biking trails; has been featured on HGTV as the 'Town that Decorates an Entire Mountain;' and is called 'The Little Soho of the West' because of it's prolific, nationally acclaimed artists/galleries and large number of year-round art events.
Each June, the largest whitewater rafting festival in the country, FIBArk (short for First In Boating on The Arkansas), begins on the Tuesday before Father's Day. World champion kayakers compete during 6 days of various competitions, daily/nightly free live music is offered and a fun, festival atmosphere abounds. The local Eddyline Brewery, is the key FIBArk sponsor. Obviously, great beer selections are guaranteed. The most popular and funniest FIBArk event is the Hooligan Race (5:30 pm on the Saturday before Father's Day) where contestant teams construct theme rafts from items such as bales of hay, empty kegs, tires, floats, sofas, & bath tubs then try to navigate over rapids and under the F Street Bridge. Hollering, hooting, and hysteria richly fill the air when rafts pass through the Boat Ramp Rapids as contestants jump for money strung high across the Arkansas. Most rafts eject people, break apart, or completely flip over! The Hooligan Race is a must see event in your life.

We live near Boulder, but Salida is probably our favorite town in Colorado. Lisa’s place was absolutely amazing for our Thanksgiving week getaway. The home is immaculate and well decorated. She’s really thought of everything. The views are incredible! You’ll feel a million miles from anywhere, yet you’re only 2 miles from downtown. It’ll be hard to stay anywhere else now when we’re in town!
Location was great for star gazing, yet close to downtown Salida. Trails close by as well.
Overall experience was good. Needs TV guide as to what's available. Towel hooks in bathrooms. Kitchen cabinet pulls would be nice. More drink glasses in kitchen.
Views are the best part of the place, hands down! Property owner had ALL amenities handled amazingly, we were in need of nothing while there. Lots of space for parking. Great trailhead with hikes just down the road. And, close to town was super convenient. Would highly recommend to anyone needing a quiet mountain stay! Thanks again Lisa!
Perfect cabin, perfect location perfect town. We had so much fun every day from river rafting to hiking to horseback riding to just hanging out in the beautiful town. But when the day was done, we went back to this amazing place and watched the stars and had amazing time with family. Could not have been better. Lisa the owner was also amazing. We’ll be back.
Loved the property and location, well equipped, excellent communication with host
The location of the house is amazing. Private, near biking/hiking trails but still close enough to ride bikes into town and along river. Nights on deck with the fire pit were great. We will be back for sure!
Wonderfully kept and appointed house with great views of the mountains. Located close enough to Salida to take advantage of the town’s activities, events and restaurants, but just far enough away to have quiet relaxation. Great value and will be our first choice if we return to the area.
The space was true to description and photos, clean and well stocked We had a great time and we’re so happy to have this place to base our family for skiing, river time, fishing and hanging in town.
We stayed for a weekend away skiing at Monarch, it was a perfect place and beautiful property.
This is an amazing property. I was amazed with how organized everything is. You will go without nothing. It you forget to bring something, it’s probably there. There was no confusion because the directions were clear and plenty. This was by far the best vacation rental I have ever stayed at.
Really lovely private spot just on the outside of Salida. Easy trip to Monarch and local hotsprings! Beautiful surroundings!
We totally enjoyed this home. Everything was better than the pictures. Seeing this property through your retinas is so much better!
This VRBO was amazing and by far one of the best experiences we have had. The house itself is beautiful and perfect for 3 couples to stay. The location was outside of downtown Salida but only 5 minutes from everything. The owner’s communication was so greatly appreciated. She recommended restaurants and activities! We had a great trip and would definitely stay there again!
Our family celebrated Thanksgiving at the house. This is the most well stocked place I’ve ever stayed in. It had everything we needed to prepare and serve a full Thanksgiving dinner. Also very clean and very cute and I would stay there again
We Loved every moment! We will be back!! The home is perfect in a beautiful spot!
This is a great place. The pictures don’t do it justice.
Our family of 5 cherished our time at Hill Country Heaven. The property was clean, cozy, and we felt like we had everything we needed (and more) to have a comfortable vacation. Lisa was an incredibly responsive and helpful host.
Lisa offers a beautiful home that is very clean, very safe, and well stocked. The views from the deck will stay with us forever. The night sky!! We were truely lucky to stay at this home. Thank You
Had a great time staying at High Country Heaven. Just a short bike ride or car ride into town if you'd like to enjoy the river, food and shops. Plenty of hiking and off-road opportunities in surrounding area. Our kids enjoyed the smoothies at Mojo Eatery, about a mile down the road. Property is also close to the town of Buena Vista (35 minutes or so). River Runners for white water rafting was great. They are located about 20-25 minutes north of Salida in Narthorp (just south of Buena Vista).
We booked a last minute trip to Salida and were lucky enough to find this available gem. The house is on a quiet dirt road just outside of town. We didn't hear any of the neighbors during our entire stay, and enjoyed walking down the driveway to get onto BLM land for hiking and exploring. The home is laid out very well for two families and it had all of the amenities you could ever think of. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck watching the sunset over the mountain peaks, all while being just a 5 minute drive to Riverfront Park. The check in/out process was extremely easy and painless, and communication with the owner was easy and wonderful. Most importantly, the house was extremely clean and tidy. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Comfortable Rustic Cabin with fantastic views. Close to town and close to hiking & biking trails. We will likely rent this house again in the future.
The title of this home is accurate! Clean, spacious and comfortable with gorgeous views and easy access to Salida and the Arkansas River.
The home allows you to just relax and de-stress. It is quiet and un-plugged. The back patio was a prefect sit-out. We viewed the stars every night and cooked smores. The kids played around the property and just stayed outside. It is right down the road from great hiking trails as well. The host supplies everything needed to just come in and relax. We will definitely be staying here again!
