HISTORY
Here is some history of the Toccoa River - off our private dock is a Cherokee Indian "fish trap." Cherokee settlements were common along the Toccoa River. The natives used an ingenious method of catching fish. By piling rocks and boulders across the river in a distinctive "V" shape, the Cherokee were able to trap and catch fish as they swam into the "V."

Wonderful house for celebrating Thanksgiving. Very spacious for all 8 of us. Gorgeous view of the Toccoa river and close to downtown Blue Ridge.
Place was beautiful the river was amazing for fishing and hanging out. We love it so much we all really never left but to go get groceries. Our family made wonderful memories
Beautiful cabin and accommodations! Our family goes every year to Blue Ridge,Big Kahuna was by far the best cabin we have ever stayed at! It was a big plus having the river right out front. Great place to fish and build a fire. The cabin has everything you need to cook with, which we have never had with a rental. The beds were so comfortable! The kitchen was big and spacious. The dining table sat all of my family. We are definitely renting again next year. I give more than 5 stars!!!
This house is wonderful for a group, with so much space indoors and out! We had four couples, so the separate bedrooms were perfect. The fall foliage in the Fish Trap Trail neighborhood area was some of the best we saw anywhere. And this location provided easy access for us up to Ocoee and down to Amicalola. Blue Ridge is an easy 15 minute drive away, and has great restaurants sand shopping. We highly recommend this place for any group wanting to enjoy the river and the scenery with plenty of comfortable space for a large group. Our stay was wonderful!
This was our second time to stay at Big Kahuna and we absolutely love everything about it! It is spacious enough for everyone to have their own space and the host is absolutely amazing and accommodating! We will be back!
Enjoyed the location on the river. Plenty of room for three families. Kids age 2 to 20 enjoyed kayaks and fishing in river.
One of nicest places we’ve stayed for a guy’s kayak trip! House was spotless, host was very accommodating. Will be back!!
Very comfortable layout for group of 10. Enjoyed watching the river. Having firewood already there at the fire pit and easily accessible was a nice touch.
All I can sum up to say is that this cabin was more than expected, my family had an amazing time!!! So beautiful and will definitely go back again!!
The property is very beautiful clean, the owners thought of everything. The craftsmanship of the wood is amazing!
The property is very Nice, but We really did not get to enjoy it like we planned, The first night the main fuse for the hot tub tripped, and all the electrical circuits in the main bed room tripped when I plugged in and used a small heater under the desk while I did some paperwork. The host contacted me and addressed it the next day. Then the 2nd day that the Heat for the basement went out so the people had to endure the frigid temps. Then on the 24th of Dec. the water line froze up even though we had the water faucets open. We waited over five hours that day and even tried to assist in a resolution but with the weather temp was not improving, the large group we had and the inability to cook, bath or use the restrooms as needed. We had to leave. We paid for 5 days but was only able to stay 3 days. I tried to speak with the host to get a refund or get a credit to be used at later date, but I was told since we left early there was no recourse. Note I did address that the weather condition wasn’t improving and we were never at anytime offer any water or way to get water, so that we could do what we needed to do , I asked what were we supposed to do……So I say to all, this is indeed is a very lovely place, the pit falls leave a very bad taste in my mouth.
Great amenities, beautiful property and location. Check in was a breeze. Totally enjoyed every minute of it.
R&R on the Toccoa river. my wife and I stayed with friends for four nights in this beautiful well appointed lodge. We all had a wonderful time enjoying the amenities and when necessary had constructive communication with the property manager and owner of any needs that would arise. Very recommended!
If you're looking for an amazing weekend getaway this is the place! Just steps from the river with amazing views we all LOVED this cabin! We all work very odd day's during the summer and wanted a quick and easy getaway and this was the PERFECT place for it. We are located in Asheville so the drive wasn't bad and finding the cabin was a breeze. The pictures are amazing but just walking into the place is even better! Being right on the river was amazing and so peaceful. The town of Blue Ridge was a quick 20 minute drive down the road and was a nice place to step away for a bit. Cell service is spotty but that was what made this even better to just unplug a little. We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the weekend and definitely are going to make this an annual trip for our group of friends!
All went smoothly.
What a beautiful cabin nestled in the woods on the river. The kids (all in college) needed a mental break and a place to chill. Amazingly all 3 had the same week off. Lucky to find this clean, spacious and well equiped cabin. We all loved every minute there.
Family weekend for Easter 2022. House has everything need for entertainment. Close to town of Blue Ridge.
Big Kahuna River Lodge was the perfect mix of a get away in a beautiful home with tons of space for large groups to spread out or get together. The pictures were true to life with 4100 square feet in the 3 floors that still came off cozy, welcoming and clean! The teenagers and tween were having a ball on the first floor with the large screen and sectional couch with the pool table. All the kids learned to play pool.. great memories made. The adults mainly used the huge open kitchen, massive live edge dining room table/ area and the inviting living room area. Yet the bedrooms were large and inviting enough to spend a little quite time when needed/ wanted or when it was time to turn in. There was still tons of patio nooks to take in the stunning views, or enjoy a fire pit or fireplace all together or times when certain members of the group want to break away and enjoy a moment on their own. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet both inside and out. The 350 feet on the water was another huge amazing bonus, between the hammock, Adirondack chairs, swing and multiple fire pits! It truly was a lodge for your own group! Driveway takes a little getting use to but it is paved and you have the option to park at the base of the driveway with two spots on gravel. Kitchen had every instrument you could imagine.. just bring your own spices, sugar, etc. Walmart is nearby and Ingles super market is also close! You can cook but still feel a part of the group! We enjoyed the town if Blue Ridge doing and resteraunts... short drive and lots of options. Plenty of towels, wash cloths, hand towels in bathrooms! Full size washer and dryer to take care of anything in between your trip. Staying in the spring, there are days we woke up to 20 degrees to 50 degrees weather outside. Not having full control of the 3 nests was a little unusual for a lodge of this caliber and price.. most times, a text to Jennifer would typically fix the issue. Summer and winter months, there should not be an issue for that. Otherwise, just an amazing paradise! Book this getaway.. you won't regret it! Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home, Scott and Melinda! Thank you, Jennifer, for your help during our stay!
