Elk Rapids, Michigan
Park the car, drop your bags, UNLOAD THE DOG, and head to the nearby beach. That's how we start vacations 'Up North'!
No Hustle, No Bustle, and TC Only 15 Minutes Away
Newlyweds to 'empty nesters' can relax with an affordable vacation in the quaint Village of Elk Rapids. Just 15 minutes north of Traverse City, the Village of Elk Rapids is nestled between the eastern arm of Grand Traverse Bay, the cool blue waters of Elk Lake, and the other 'finger lakes' of Antrim County. We are dead center in a Lake Michigan “arc of hospitality” that stretches from the artist community of Northport to the historic sites of Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City.
Our newly expanded 1400 sq. ft. two bedroom home is fully furnished with a dining room, spacious and comfortable family room (with fold out sofa), fully fenced back yard for kids and Fido, and bonus game room for "rainy day fun." Two sets of sliding doors leads onto the large grey slate patio to sip your morning coffee.
The 16x16 master bedroom has the feel of a sumptuous suite with walk-in closet, on- suite master bath and seating area. The second bedroom has two twin beds. The kitchen leads into the dining room and also opens onto the patio.
Game Room for Rainy Days
Just off the back yard is the remodeled 'Rainy Day Retreat' ; a play room with large screen TV, DVD player, comfy chairs and couches, Nintendo Wii, and refridgerator. It is the perfect spot for rainy days, after a long day at the beach, or for evening relaxation in front of the fire pit.
Close to Downtown and the Beach
A "quick 6" block walk or bike ride takes you to Elk Rapids' Main Street and easy access to the beach, tennis or basketball courts at the local park, shopping, dining, boating, movies, or enjoy an ice cream on the river bank in one of northern Michigan's best kept secret vacation getaways.
Lots to Offer in Elk Rapids

Elk Rapids gives you access to the best of Grand Traverse, Antrim, and Charlevoix area attractions with the peace and quiet of real small town life a. You'll like Traverse City, but you'll LOVE Elk Rapids!
Nice quiet stay in Elk Rapids. Loved the master suite for us and the separate guest room for kids or friends. Would absolutely stay here again.
Relaxing and love having our two dogs with us.
Loved our stay and can’t wait to be back again. We stayed with our 3 year old daughter and dog. Perfect location and great value!
We had a great stay! We loved Elk Rapids and the proximity to shops, restaurants, and a gorgeous beach. It was a 2-3 minute drive into town and the walk was less than 15 minutes. The streets around town are very walkable and felt safe even though some areas don’t have sidewalks. The cottage was very well stocked with amenities. Communication with owners/management was efficient and check-in was easy. Really nice outdoor space and we appreciated the fenced yard. While surface areas and high-use areas were noticeably cleaned before our stay, I think the property could use a deep clean. Overall, we had a fantastic vacation. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!
The cottage is very roomy. We enjoyed the fenced in back yard. This is a good location close to downtown Elk Rapids and the beach.
The location of Elk Rapids made for a good central hub to venture out to other prime areas. This was our first experience with using VRBO, which was disappointing for the following reasons...The listing on the website gave the impression that the house was located on Elk Lake when it was not. It would help if the pictures of the lake had a caption of where the lake was located. There was a very musty smell when we would enter the house each time. The decor was so random and none of the rooms flowed well. I would not recommend this particular rental to any of my friends.
Nice older lake house, in a quiet little lake town. 10 minute walk to downtown Elk Rapids. Just go right up Cedar street. Restaurants and shops are all right there. 20 minutes to Traverse City, an hour to Sleeping Bear dunes, an hour to the bridge. Torch lake is 10 minutes away. Follow the outdoor patio lights to the plug and you will find the controller for them, they are not on a switch. Lol. House was clean, bed was comfy, kitchen was equipped, we made coffee but did not cook. Lol.Very quiet neighborhood with friendly folks that wave. Thanks for sharing!
We stayed here once before with our dogs a few years ago. It’s even lovelier now, super comfortable! The enclosed back yard was perfect to relax and let the dogs have some ‘off leash’ time. The kitchen was even better equipped. We definitely will be back.
Love this location and everyone has a place to sleep and the whole family has a away from home, even the dog also has a nice fenced in yard!
We enjoyed our stay in Elk Rapids. Loved that we could bring the dogs and we were close enough to walk into the village.
The house is very cozy, quiet and comfortable! The weather was cold, rainy and windy, but the house was extremely pleasant place to stay indoors. The furnace didn't work when we arrived, but the property manager called someone out and quickly got it fixed, which warmed everything up nicely. I would definitely recommend staying here. The property and neighborhood are very pretty and it's a great central location to visit everything available in this area of Michigan!
This was our first time renting this type and we liked it a lot its so beautiful up north this time of year would recommend no stress and good pricing
Having a secluded and fenced in patio area was very nice. Not too many places allow pets and our Golden Retriever was able to roam and have fun. Lots of trees and seclusion. The house itself was clean and quiet, and having cable was a plus. The layout was kind of strange. There was no closet or dresser in the master bedroom. Overall we would definitely recommend this property. Elk Rapids is a wonderful little town with very friendly folks.
Property is clean an convenient to all the things we are interested in, golf, beach, wine tasting, local events, and restaurants. Property is also good for our dog since it has fenced backyard.
Such a quaint house with lovely enclosed back yard for our dog. There was one early evening that the sounds of an ice cream truck came down the road and it was as if my husband and I were transported back into time with so many wonderful memories. Will definitely be back.
Very dog friendly! Great place to stay. In a quiet neighborhood, not far from the hustle and bustle of Traverse City. House is much bigger than it looks from the outside. We will definitely be back.
