Stayed Sep 6, 2025The house was perfect for us!!! We brought our bikes hoping for some decent trails and were thrilled to find the best bike trails in the state only a few blocks away. The location of the house was secluded and peaceful, yet very close to fun restaurants and bars. Being on the lake was great for kayaking and fishing. We had a great week enjoying nature and the friendly people we met along the way.

Stayed Aug 4, 2025We have stayed on Vance Lake in the past and enjoyed the quiet lake and its walkability to Manitowish Waters, swimming frontage and peaceful setting. We did have difficulty accessing the home on our arrival, we were given an incorrect door code and had to call VACASA to give us a new code which took a good bit of time as the first two new codes did not work. The kitchen garbage was full and food left in the refrigerator. It could use a few more sets of cutlery so that you don’t have to wash cutlery after every meal (3 adults and 1 14 yr old). The second bathroom’s bath tub drained very slowly.

Stayed May 12, 2024Perfect location! House is in the woods and on the lake but within close walking distance to town. The main purpose for our visit was to bike on the Vilas County path. The path is well maintained with beautiful scenery and easy access from the Vance Lake house. We liked that the kitchen is fully stocked and towels and blankets are plentiful. Would recommend and rent again if we ever make it back to the Northwoods.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Just completed a wonderful two week stay, with our children and grandchildren visiting us part of that time. Our familiarity with Manitowish Waters goes back decades “above the dam” on the chain of lakes. Vance Lake Retreat is a “gem” below the dam. The location is outstanding - walking distance to downtown stores, restaurants, bars and entertainment, close to the paved bike paths, and the town park with a public access boat ramp on Rest Lake. Vance Lake is peaceful and quiet. We kayaked, biked, and walked every day. Discovering the Manitowish river down stream from the dam was great. Lots of wildlife. During our two week stay we saw eagles, river otter, fox, deer, and river sturgeon. The grandkids had a blast swimming on the floating water mat (provided along with four kayaks, a canoe, and all paddles, and PFDs.) Vance Lake Retreat was clean, well-stocked, with a great view of the Lake. It is very private with a large lot/green space for yard games. We had a minor issue on the morning after check-in when we discovered the coffee pot was not working. I called VACASA’s 1-800 # and the support person promptly relayed the issue to Brian, their local maintenance person. He called promptly and said he would be at our place in 30 to 45 minutes. He showed up with a new coffee pot. Brian was very personable, and informative. I found VACASA’s website, booking process, and support staff great to work with. Not only would we consider renting Vance Lake Retreat again, we have already booked two weeks for next summer.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969House was immaculate (except for a moldy shower curtain liner, so we used the other shower). Comfortable king bed and 2 full baths, as well as 2 other bedrooms. Kitchen was well-stocked. There were even toys in the closet. Very easy access (2 min drive) to Pea Patch, Manny's, Angler's and Aurora Borealis, grocery store, and hardware store. I tried contacting the person Vacasa named as my contact about the curtain, but never got a response. We also had wifi issues (which turned out to be a region-wide issue) and called the 1-800 number, but no one got back to us about that either. Overall, I would stay at this house again.
