Port Angeles, Washington
The perfect spot for your family reunion or multi-family retreat, with room for 4 families to spread out comfortably and the most fully stocked kitchen you've ever rented.
UPDATE ON SUMMER RENTALS: Because summers have been booking up 2 years in advance, we are trying something different. For 2022 and beyond, we are accepting only 6-night rentals, Saturday to Friday, for the summer rental season (June through Labor Day). If not all weeks are booked by spring, we will open up shorter booking options. We have traveled the world and decided this is our favorite place to vacation with our kids. The house itself is not fancy, but is laid out to accommodate 4+ separate families and their kids, or at least 5 couples. It is well equipped for our favorite activities including cooking, paddling, and enjoying cozy time with the family. You’ll find high chairs, kid dishes, toys, floaties, pack-n-plays, games, life jackets, and other items we stock for a weekend away with our own small kids.
The hot tub is located on the front patio with a lake view!
Lake Sutherland is the perfectly located home base for your trip to the Olympic Peninsula. Port Angeles is less than a 20 minute drive away, with restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The northwest coast is less than an hour drive to the west, with hiking and breathtaking pacific beaches. The lake itself is clear, clean, great for swimming, boating and fishing. In the summer the water can reach 68 to 70 degrees.
If you have visited this lake, you’ll know that most of the shoreline is steep, where staircases lead down from cabins perched on the hillside. This house is different. The gradual lawn stretches right to the water’s edge. Also, because it is situated on the north side of the lake, it gets full sun from morning until late afternoon in the summer, and is protected from north, east, and most importantly west wind. Even on the shortest day of the year, this house may get a bit of afternoon sunlight when the rest of the lake is in shade for several months. Shadow Mountain General Store is walking distance with ice, burgers, basic groceries and gas.
Your rental includes three separate buildings. It is great for family reunions because you can have a baby in almost every bedroom and they won’t wake each other up. The main house has two large bedrooms with adjacent sitting areas and private entrances. Queen suite also contains a full hide a-bed couch. Facing the lake, it has the best view in the house. Master bedroom has a king size bed, private bath, and sitting area with a fold down single couch. Third smaller bedroom in the main house has a full size bed along with a its own door adjacent to the bathroom. Fully equipped kitchen and dining room makes cooking for large groups easy. Laundry room has an extra stove/oven and refrigerator for those larger crowds. Great room has comfortable furnishings, plenty of kids toys and books, a pellet stove (with a baby gate if you need it) and wide screen TV, with a sliding door to patio.
Detached bunk house has pool table, air hockey, foosball and games also includes 4 bunks, futon and ½ bath. Bunk house queen bedroom is located here as well, and is mobility accessible with a full bath. Studio unit, the “Nautical Nest”, is also included, separate from the main house, which has an open floor plan with kitchen and separate bathroom.
Plenty of outdoor fun is awaiting you here with horse shoe pit, croquet, and large fenced yard to spread your wings while also enjoying the eagles spreading theirs. Kayaks, paddle boards, pedal boats, and a canoe are available for your use. The property features amazing privacy - it is bordered by trees all the way to your own private dock. The water is about 6 feet deep off the end of the dock, deep enough to dive right in and clear enough to snorkel. This is the perfect place for multi-family use, reunions, bridal showers, small intimate gatherings, outdoor bbq, outdoor firepit, and plenty of lawn furniture and relaxing areas while you soak up the sun or enjoy the covered porch in the shade with a book.
Please consider seasonal details:
July & August are the driest weather and book almost a year in advance.
Sept & October include beautiful fall colors, often weather in the 60s and 70s, but sometimes can be wet. Lake may still be high 60s depending on the year.
Nov - Feb can include snow, occasionally over a foot deep. At times, you may need 4wd to drive the last quarter mile from the highway to the house. Dock may not be accessible if lake is high. Canoe and other boats are still available for your use; please be safe.
March & April flowers start to bloom and you could get some T-shirt days.
May & June can include warm days with temps in the 70s, but also wet days, and lake will be cool, likely in the 60s.
I was amazed at the amount of items that were readily available for us to use. From kitchen/cooking items to laundry and medicines to water toys.
Amazing location for exploring the park! Ran or hiked to crescent lake daily! Plenty of rooms for big group and excellent set up for cooking meals at “home”! Super responsive property managers!
Clearly this space means a great deal to the family who graciously shared it with us. The house was well appointed, welcoming, and provided an outstanding base camp to the many adventures that await in Olympic National Park. The description of the house was very accurate and the experience exceeded our expectations.
We greatly enjoyed our weekend at this stunningly beautiful property. Well equipped with everything we needed, spacious and comfortable sleeping and common areas, easy instructions and great communication. We look forward to staying again!
We stayed for our annual book club retreat. We do a lot of cooking and the kitchen was well equipped. Easily accommodated our group of 10. The dock on the lake a bit of heaven. Beds were comfy. Lots of out door space. Is great for families with young children! Lots of toys etc. elegant river hike was awesome! Would go again.
Our stay was nothing less than amazing. The hosts were incredibly kind and accommodating. The property is unrivaled. We're already planning a return trip.
The only complaint that our family had is that we didn't get to stay long enough! Can we stay another day please?! This was absolutely a piece of paradise! The water toys that were provided along with life jackets, allowed us to have a wonderful time from morning until sundown! Then we moved our celebration to the hot tub, and fire pit. We had 16 guest and everyone had a bed to lay their head, and even take a break. We had a blast playing horseshoes, and the kids had fun playing on the jungle gym. Taking in the view and feeding the ducks was by far the best part of our days! We are already planning a return.
The house was wonderful. The location was perfect. We spent most of our time seeing the park and did not take advantage of the house and lake. You could truly never leave the house and have a great vacation. It was clean and comfortable. Every pot, dish or spice you may have needed was there. We loved our stay. On a personal note my family is very sensitive to perfumes and scent. We did smell a thing. The detergent and lotion at the house was unscented.
Our extended family of 8 adults and 9 kids (ages 0-6) very much enjoyed our week at Lake Sutherland! We had so much fun on the lake and playing in the large yard, and the kids were huge fans of the many toys available. Would definitely stay here again!
We LOVED our stay here! Every member of our party agreed that this is the most generously supplied house we have ever rented. Our family arrived at the property from four different states with babies, teens, parents and grandparents. We were not able to bring a lot of supplies and were so thankful to find EVERYTHING a family could want to have time and place for relaxation as well as fun and adventure. There is truly something for everyone at this property. We loved the hot tub, the fire pit, the large yard for lawn games, the dock with tons of water toys and life jackets, great patio furniture, the spacious and comfortable rooms, the extra refrigerators, plenty of towels and bedding etc. Our family had a wonderful time. Thank you for being such thoughtful and generous hosts.
We love staying at Lake Sutherland and this property is perfect. Our hosts were wonderful! They make the check-in process so easy, and they have just the right amount of communication. Thank you again for a wonderful stay.
My wife and I, 2 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and 6 grandchildren (ages 7-13) spent a wonderful week at this property. With the acreage and the almost three separate dwellings, the property worked well to give us all some space and privacy at times when needed. The kids, big and small, loved the lake and the equipment to enjoy the lake provided by the owner. Also the bunk room with pool table, was a big hit, along with ping pong, swing set, etc The property is nothing fancy, but it is well stocked, and extremely comfortable. What little communication we needed with the owner, was very quick and easy. This property helped make our family's adventure in the Pacific Northwest totally amazing.
Wonderful house on the lake with lots of space for all 16 of us. There were 10 20-something year olds and 6 50-something year old parents. Great jumping off point for many adventures in the Olympics. WiFi was not the greatest in the evenings when everyone was there but seemed to work okay for those needing to work during the day. Lots of water toys, space to spread out, games to play, TV’s to watch. Overall a great place!
Great
Beautiful location
Took my wife here for her birthday with a few friends. It was amazing location and views! Plenty of room for 4 couple. Highly recommend staying here.
Grand parents, 2 adult children and spouces, and 4 little ones 4 and under. Well equipped kitchen for all of our meals, plenty of toys for the little people and space to run and explore outside. It was wonderful to be out in nature, and one morning see a fleeting double rainbow over the lake. The little people loved taking turns taking a kayak ride, and even getting in the hot tub with mom or dad for a short period of time. Short hikes were nearby, and one mom was even able to escape by herself for awhile for a longer hike and climb. A beautiful place and area for a mini fmily getaway.
