Lutsen, Minnesota
Inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright , Grey Havens sits on 450 feet of private Lake Superior shoreline.
The house is furnished in mission style for a luxurious yet comfortable feel. Art scattered throughout the home, much of it by local artists, reflects the wilderness surrounding you. The open floor plan allows for cooking, dining and relaxing all with amazing Lake Superior views.
The main living area has a Carlton Peak rock fireplace and a 50' flat screen TV with BluRay, dvd and vcr players for evening movies. The stereo system can fill the main area with whatever type of music you prefer from the cd collection or play your own personalized music. The home also has internet, so you can connect and even download movies, if you have that service from the smart DVD. Two comfortable swivel recliners in the bay window let you nap while being lulled by the waves crashing on the shore.
Up a spiral stairs and overlooking the living area is a loft full of books, a daybed with trundle and a couch. Up another spiral stairs and you arrive in the newly-remodeled turret with spectacular 180 degree views of the lake. Comfortable seating and lighting make this a perfect place to relax, read or watch the many changing faces of Lake Superior. At night it's a star watchers dream!
Or maybe you prefer to wander down to the lake to skip stones on your own private beach or fish off the ledgerock shore. Hot dogs and s'mores at the waterfront fire pit creates fun and memories for all ages.
You can create your own gourmet meals in the fully equipped kitchen using the JennAire stove and other amenities. Or grill outside on the Weber!
The master bedroom is a special retreat with two walls of windows for stunning lake views. The attached bathroom has its own soaking tub and separate shower.
The first guest bedroom reflects the voyageur heritage of the North Shore. It's attached bathroom has whimsical wall art of spruce trees, bringing the surrounding forest inside.
The second guest bedroom focuses on the art of Bev Doolittle with her portrayals of the hidden denizens of the birch forests. In the attached bathroom look out the window to find the trees which posed for the birch wall paintings!
Grey Havens is only minutes from Lutsen Ski Resort, with downhill skiing, snowboarding, and in summer, the Alpine Slide. Even closer is the 27 hole Lutsen National Golf Course. Miles of cross country ski trails start just across the road. Hiking in the beautiful state parks along Highway 61 is spectacular whatever the season. Just 20 minutes to the East is Grand Marais, an artist colony and charming town full of shops and restaurants to keep you entertained whatever the weather.
Grey Havens was a harbor for the highest and most powerful of the Elves in Tolkien's story of the Middle Kingdom. It was from Grey Havens that the Elves set sail for other enchanted lands. A place of magic and beauty, Grey Havens was a refuge for the Fellowship of the Ring and is our refuge for the soul.

Gray Havens was the perfect cabin for our family Fall get-away. The views from every window bringing in the sunlight and the lake. The coziness of every room. The amazing property, the fire pit, the stairs down to the lake. The “treehouse room” (as the grandchildren called it) was the best place to be during morning sunrise. We will be back next year.
Three “senior” siblings and spouses thoroughly enjoyed this home for 5 nights after Labor Day! We all were able to enjoy the exquisite view from the turret loft as well as a couple of evenings of a cozy fire in the living room fireplace. It was very easy lake access and we were very happy to have garage space for the cars! The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were comfortable for all. Sweet family memories were made!
It’s a fantastic location if you want to hike, golf, and enjoying the Lutsen area. The house was great for the seven of us (6 adults and a 1 year old). We loved having a fire in the evenings, and the kitchen had everything we needed. We could get down to the water, but most of the water view was obstructed by trees (which we knew). There was a beautiful 3rd floor view of the water, but you had to make it up 2 levels on a narrow spiral staircase. Beautiful once you got up there!
Being right on Lake Superior was wonderful. The sound of the waves lulled us to sleep each night and the third floor provided an awesome view and place to reflect each morning. The house is nicely appointed and well kept. Our rating would have been five stars across the board but our check in was a little rocky. We couldn't get into the house because the door handle was locked and required a physical key. The contact phone number listed was not the property manager's number so it took over an hour to reach the property manager. Once contacted, the property manager was helpful with getting us into the house.
The home is beautiful! It is well kept, clean and the property is amazing. The owners were wonderful to work with and I will definitely consider staying in the future. I perfect North Shore location.
Love the location, love the beautiful home and of course, being right on the most gorgeous lake in the world. We had a wonderful stay, cooked all our meals at the house, went up and down the shore, hiking, sight seeing and fishing at near by lakes. This well appointed home will not disappoint. The only thing we did NOT do was have a fire in the fire ring due to dry weather, Hope the state gets some rain! Thank you!
THE NORTH SHORE IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE SPOTS FOR MANY REASONS...AND THIS PROPERTY HAD EVERY REASON FOR WHY WE LOVE THE NORTH SHORE. WE HAD 9 ADULTS AND 2 KIDS UNDER 3 YRS OLD. PLENTY OF ROOM. ONE RECOMMENDATION: WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE SPENT TIME ON OBSERVATION DECK OFF THE DINING AREA...MIGHT BE WORTHWHILE TO HAVE DOOR/LOCK ISSUE RESOLVED TO ALLOW THAT WONDERFUL HOUSE FEATURE TO BE USED YEAR ROUND...AND MAYBE A GAS GRILL ON THE DECK. A LOVELY PARTING GIFT FROM GOD!! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!! THANK YOU GREY HAVEN!! THE PITTMANS WOODBURY, MN
Spacious and stunning home on Superior. The home easily accommodated our family and was well appointed with so many amenities. Check-in/check-out was a breeze. The views were outstanding! Easy access to skiing at Lutsen. Great experience all around, highly recommend.
The home was beautiful, great views of the lake, had plenty of space and was well-furnished. We stayed for the weekend to ski Lutsen and it was very close to the mountain and not far from Grand Marais. We will plan to stay again!
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Grey Havens for 7 days, and it was a wonderful experience. The location was perfect for skiing and winter hiking. It was easily accessible by car, and Lutsen Ski Resort was just a short a few minutes away. The cabin itself was cozy and spacious, with plenty of room for our group of seven. It was well-equipped with everything we needed during our stay, including a fully-stocked kitchen, great views, and a warm fireplace. The host, Lara, was very responsive and helpful, and made sure we had a comfortable stay. Overall, I highly recommend Grey Havens and would definitely stay there again in the future. The cozy and spacious home, combined with the convenient location and excellent host, made for a great winter getaway.
This was our second time staying at Grey Havens and it was just as wonderful this time around! We love the location for getting out and exploring the North Shore. Beautiful cabin and plenty of room for 2 families with kids. The crow's nest was a hit in the morning with the kids and adults alike!
We have stayed here many times, and will come back next year as well.
Accommodated 6 adults perfectly. Great location! Highly recommend.
This was our second stay at this home. The location is excellent. Near Lutsen and a short drive to Grand Marais. The crows nest at the top of the house offers excellent views of the lake. The kitchen is great and has all of the utensils, pots, and pans you need. We love being able to park in a garage, especially in the winter. We enjoyed our stay.
We had an awesome time exploring the area. The house is in a great location and fit our party very well for 3 adult couples. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a great time at this location. Very close to a variety of activities in Lutsen and Grand Maria’s. Great place to come back to at night and relax to the view and sounds of Lake Superior.
We really enjoyed our stay at Gray Havens! The location on the shore, the unique and beautiful home and the private beach were amazing. We fished on a small ocal leke, hiked Mt Josephine, went to Grand Potage and into Grand Marais! Kitchen has it all. Cooked our meals at the house. Thanks so much, loved everything!
This was a return trip to the property for us. It’s very clean, communication is great, and location is excellent. If we head back to the north shore we’ll definitely look to book again
