For the money this property cost, the outcome was far below my expectations. I am very familiar with the neighborhood, as I was a former property owner at a nearby address. Perhaps the most disappointing feature of the property was the windows. They were thermapane with a venetian blind in between two panes of glass. It's a one story beachfront property, where you can't see the beach. The venetian blinds were broken. In my wing, I had a sitting room off the bedroom. There were 9 windows, 4 facing the beach. Only one window had blinds that would open. I expect to see the ocean from the backside of the house, but I couldn't. On a 90 degree day, the HVAC system could not cool the interior space below 78. This was a problem. The owner sent contractors to check the system. What they found was a poorly designed system. The return air filter, 20x20 (400 sq. in.), was covering a duct that had an open area 2x20 (40 sq. in.) . There is no way a living space apprx. 2,000 sq. ft. can be adequately cooled with a return air duct measuring 40 sq. in. The HVAC technician said the fan was not moving nearly the amount of air needed to cool the house. There were roaches. Live and dead. Big ones. About 2 in. long. A live one was in a kitchen drawer. The gas grill was filthy. The outdoor shower had no privacy OR hot water. If you think you might want to rent this place, think twice. It's not what the owner wants you to believe it is.
This home, although original and quirky, was the most comfortable home we've stayed in on the Isle. With all of the new, huge monoliths going up, we wanted a nice pleasant no muss, no fuss home. This was it. It was comfy, homey, clean, bigger than we thought and all on one floor. Couldn't have had a nicer stay. Don't change a thing!!!
This is the third year our family has stayed here. The floor plan of the house is perfect for our family of my 2 married children, 2 grandchildren and my husband and me. And another room for nanny or au pair. It is spacious and comfortable and location is great. The bathrooms and kitchen have not been updated lately but are functional and clean. You can’t beat it for the price!
Great location on the beach good size property in good proximity to anything you'd need
It was in a great location right on the beach. The family room was beautiful with it's wood paneling. The kitchen left something to be desired. The place was clean but the cabinets not straightened, the insides of them were beat up. The appliances were old and not up to par. I am torn both ways because if they updated they would charge more and a lot of folks like us could not afford it. The mother in law side of the house was great for our group, and for making Thanksgiving dinner. There were no dishes in the mother in law suite though.
We have been coming to the Isle of Palms for several summers and this is the 2nd year we have stayed in this house, it is a great house for a large family, lots of room to spread out in. The location is great, the walk to the beach is awesome especially if you have small children. We hope to be coming back next year. VRBO does a great job with their website. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. We love the Isle of Palms :)
