Indian Fields - Twenty-five acre nature lovers retreat! Pool, Kayaks, Fire Pit - The family Dog is Welcome!
Bring your gear - on over 25 acres and 800' of southeast shoreline, Indian Fields is set up for an active vacation. Fishing, crabbing, boating, kayaking, and swimming in the private waterfront pool is just for starters. Indian Fields' front porch facing the river is perfect for the family to relax and setttle in, Or Catch your own Maryland Blue crabs and have a feast!
Bring a bocce ball or croquet set - the front lawn is perfect for a tournament while those less inclined to play can relax in the shade. Less than three minutes from the property is Horn Point Laboratory, where you can tour a real marine biology lab and oyster hatchery. Looking to be a little less "earthy" but still want to be outdoors, grab a tee time at the Hyatt on the Chesapeake golf course. It's just a few miles away.
Indian Fields is over 3,500 square feet and lovingly restored to its classic 1920s style. Glossy wood floor planks remind you of how homes used to be built. Indian Fields is perfectly set up for one or two families with a cozy "cousins' bunk room" for late-night whispering while the grown-ups enjoy an evening on the front porch facing the Choptank. Trust us, the kids will be tired at day's end and you will have some coveted time to relax. Forget those crowded beaches and noisy boardwalks and come to Indian Fields. A vacation where the kids can let the screen door hit them on their way out and you don't have to worry about getting stuck in traffic unless moving a turtle off of the road on a bike ride constitutes gridlock!

If you like to be near the tranquility of the water, this place is unparalleled; the dock, the sunsets, just watching the boats go by bring a much needed peace to the mind . The lot is large and private, plenty of room for badminton, basketball, volleyball, bocce. The pool was a big highlight of the stay! We rented additional kayaks, which were an easy in and out the water and there is a great area to explore. The house was spacious enough for 9 of us to have plenty of breathing room, while still being able to come together for dinner and games. The kitchen was well stocked for preparing meals. The showers are a little quirky and it took us a moment to find one that suited each of us. The bugs are just waiting to come in for a visit, so make sure you keep the doors closed! Including the surrounding areas of St. Michaels and Annapolis, there was something for everyone in our multi-generational family to enjoy for the entire week.
The house was lovely and the waterfront was beautiful. I didn’t realize that there was no air in any of the bathrooms and none in the kitchen. The third floor bedrooms were stifling. Me and my sister couldn’t sleep there. The house had air conditioning units which took a while to cool down the house. We had to run fans in the kitchen, bedroom and third floor bedroom for my husband to be comfortable. Me and my sister had to sleep on the couches in the living room. They had 5 couches which was great but would have been better if two were a sleep sofa. Overall we had a great time.!
Our family group of ten, ranging in age from 17 months to 72 years had a wonderful week at Indian Fields. The spacious house had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our gang and the kitchen was roomy enough for all of us to be in there at the same time. The kitchen was well equipped, too. The house was spotlessly clean upon our arrival. The setting on the Choptank River was magnificent and we enjoyed many beautiful sunrises. We all loved the pool and swam every day. The salt water was a delightful change from chlorine, especially for our little ones. Leonard, the owner, and Doug, the property manager, were very responsive to our questions and needs. They get an A for effort! All in all, we had a great time there.
Fun in the pool. Plenty of space for everyone,
What a beautiful and relaxing four days in this wonderful old historic home! Beds were very comfortable, pillows and blankets everything needed for an enjoyable and restful sleep. Didn’t catch anything in the crab pots, but we weren’t fastidious Crabbers either! My son and son-in-law had great fun teaching the kids how to fish off the pier. Mainly we stayed at the house and enjoyed the serenity and laughter of our family. However, we were able to drive to Spocott windmill within a mile or two of the home. We also went to see the Cambridge Lighthouse, a screwpile lighthouse located on Cambridge’s waterfront. We brought wood for the fire pit and sat in the Adirondack chairs laughing and enjoying this beautiful Home! Doug , owner, was very quick to respond to any question we had. The only thing that for me would have increased the enjoyment of the stay would be if that coral had some horses !! And Doug, I think unless you know the homes are for certain, you should ask the Cambridge Historical Society to research the homes history and age. I just love love love old houses, especially yours. Enjoy. PS the 6 year old twins and the 4 year old kids loved playing basketball on the court. !! Thank you again
We stayed here for three days in late August/early September 2022. We had two families with a total of 8 kids ranging from 4-12. We wanted a quiet getaway with activities for the kids, specifically a pier for fishing, a pool and a launch for putting kayaks and paddleboards into the river - all of which this property had. The check-in process was painless and property management was quick to respond to our report of a small leak in one of the hallways. It was cleaned up and fixed within a couple of hours. The property is really out in the middle of nowhere so plan ahead for peace and quiet. The WiFi was easily accessible and we had 3-4 bars of cell reception (AT&T network) so had plenty of access to the interwebs, as needed. The house itself is a charming colonial-era mansion with 2 large (master-style) bedrooms on the second floor, with one of them having a bunkroom connected to it. The attic had 2 more small bedrooms with a bathroom. There are window AC units scattered throughout the house that kept it comfortable even in the 90 degree temperatures that we experienced while there. There were 2 single kayaks near the private soft launch area and we took paddleboards and kayaks out into the river a couple of days. Both days the water was decently calm although there was some wave activity after a night of storms that we had to be careful of. The pool is inground and was plenty big enough for the kids to all play together. It ranges from about 3ft to a max depth of 8ft so they could jump into the deep end (no diving board). There are two beach umbrellas near the pool but otherwise no shade so plan on bringing a small canopy if you're going to be out there most of the day. The porch on the back of the house provides good shade from about noon onwards but the sun rises facing the back of the house so it will be hot till about noontime. There was fishing gear provided in the garage and the basketball court was fun for our pre-teen. Note: the court is a full court but with only one basket so plan on playing half-court games. The kitchen was well-stocked although we ate out most of the trip. There's a small table in the kitchen but a full size table/chairs in the dining room. The house is definitely somewhat outdated but we actually loved it that way - more charm and historical interest... plus we spent most of our time outside. This is a gem in Dorchester County!
You never have to leave the property for entertainment. Swimming, fishing off the peir, kayaking, relaxing by the water in the shade. The host responded to questions within seconds, very kind and helpful. Recommended for families.
