Providence, Rhode Island
Originally built in 1760 on North Main Street and moved in 1805 to its present location on Benefit Street, this is a treasured home along Benefit Street’s “Mile of History.” The exterior of the home has Greek Revival details while the interior boasts wide plank pine wood floors from 1760, five original fireplaces with stunning craftsmanship, and distinctive curved walls in the living room facing Benefit Street. The custom kitchen leads to a western-facing deck with breathtaking views of the Rhode Island State House and downtown Providence. The deck has two heaters and a grill for year-round use. The second floor is dedicated to the primary suite with a spacious primary bedroom, a gorgeous bath and shower, convenient laundry, and an office space that overlooks the State House. The third floor has two bedrooms and another full bathroom. The finished basement contains a Peloton and weights, a queen sleeper sofa, a full bathroom in the unfinished area, and a door that leads to the patio and perennial garden designed by a famous RISD landscape architect. The private garden, tiered water fountain, and comfortable outdoor seating below the deck offer a relaxing atmosphere amid the surrounding city.
This house is on the National Registry of Historic Properties, a Providence Preservation Society plaque house, and was featured in a cover story for Colonial Homes magazine.

*This home was built in 1760 and so has all of the charms and quirks of an 18th century home. If guests have mobility issues they might find the second to third floor stairwell challenging. The pictures included here offer an accurate representation of those stairs, but we would be happy to answer any questions/provide more information upon request.*
This house was above and beyond what I expected. Perfect location within walking distance to the river, restaurants and downtown. Hosts were attentive and we had everything we needed.
We stayed for two weeks while my daughter attended a program at Brown. Location is amazing, owners very responsive and helpful. Would love to stay here again. AC works so well (we had some warm weather in July)!
We stayed at the property for our daughter's graduation weekend from Brown. Everything about the house was perfect. We especially enjoyed the beautiful deck off the kitchen. The hosts couldn't have been nicer. If we have an occasion to visit Providence in the future, we would love to stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Alice and Matthew’s beautiful home! This is a gorgeous, historic home with all the modern comforts. We spent a lot of time in the deck with its great views and in their lovely garden. Check in and check out super easy, College hill location was perfect, and Alice and Matthew were lovely to communicate with. Thanks again!
We stayed from March 31 to April 3rd. There were 5 of us. 2 of us in the Queen on the second floor, and the other 3 on the third floor in the queen, and the full beds. There is a full bath on all floors, including the basement. Be aware, there are stairs involved on this property. We were all delighted with the house! The place was immaculate. The back deck view is stunning, and the back patio areas, very private and comfortable. There is one off street parking that was perfect for our rental. The hosts were very communicative and accommodating. We would stay here again without hesitation! Loved it. ?
