ABOUT THIS HISTORIC LANDMARK HOME:
Built in 1882, the Jesse Benton Building was the first framed stick Eastlake two-story structure constructed in Ouray. What is currently the living room was orignially a bar with billiards. The space was then transitioned into a newsprint office. Since that time the first floor space was occupied with a variety of retail and commercial businesses, including Silver Slugs fire arms clubhouse, The Woman's Club of Ouray meeting room, Ouray Glass Works, a frame shop, Ouray Yoga and Mojo's Coffee.

The original owner and proprietor, Jesse Benton, served in the Civil War with Company First Colorado Calvary, 1862. After the war he became a private lawman hired by mountain mining towns to establish law and order. Benton organized the Ouray Sharp Shooter's and survived three decades of law enforcement in the San Juans.

We had a wonderful stay. The Host was very helpful. The apartment was so neat, I love the History. It was clean, comfortable, in a great location and had everything we needed.

Cute little place. Clean and right off the main street. Con: Slept hot at night. Unless you left the doors opened there is no way to really cool the place down. There is a fan, but wish there were windows to open.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location just off main street. The house is lovely with everything you need. Nice, comfy king sized bed. There is no air conditioning, so we added a box fan in the window facing bedroom and that helped. My only complaint was that it is stated there is parking available. It is street parking so first come first served. Every afternoon we came back from being away, we had to park a block or two away from our house. So that was not ideal! Overall, a good place and location, just be aware of the parking situation.
