Enjoy our dream! The historic Buckhorn lodge was built in 1925. For the past 10 years we have renovated it as a rustic vacation home, perfect for families, romantic getaways, or friend get-togethers.
Fast 50 mbps internet speed. Multiple zoom sessions supported.
A maximum of 6 guests (plus infants under two years of age) is permitted by San Juan county (and strictly enforced).
Pet Fees: $100 first pet. $50 second pet.
In 2023 we completed a new wing, addition adding an additional 2000 sq ft space for a total of 3200 sq ft of living space. The new wing includes a den/game room, a master bedroom, a full bathroom with heated floors, clawfoot tub, steam/shower, and bidet, a bunk room with 2 twin beds and an additional day bed which can act as twin or be expanded into a king bed.
The original front portion of the lodge includes a large country kitchen with wood stove, a spacious living/room dining room, with fireplace, loft area, and ocean front bedroom and 2nd bathroom
Other amenities include a hot tub (with ocean view), bikes (Yes! you can ride to town in about 15 minutes - get out of your car!), kayaks, crab traps, private beach, ping pong table, BBQ, fire pit. Yes, it's rustic, but wonderfully comfortable and the perfect family retreat.
Don't spend your vacation driving to the beach. Our private beach is about 10 feet from our 40 foot deck (see photos) which runs the length of the front of the house. You can relax while keeping on eye on the kids. The views are astounding - snow-covered Mt. Baker is visible to the North East, Vancouver is out past Sucia Island to the North West.
As noted, you can ride one of our bicycles or walk to to the town of East Sound to shop, eat at one of the wonderful restaurants, attend the weekly farmers market or just stroll. Because we are so close to the beach, it feels as if you were on your own private island. We have a few neighbors all of whom are wonderful kind people.
We do not have TV or a land line, but offer wireless internet so you can access your Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu service, and a VCR and DVD player with approximately 150 movies to choose from.
Buckhorn Lodge is a one-of-a-kind spot - close to town, right on the water, incredible views on beautiful Orcas Island.
Our home offers great value: in addition to its superb beachfront location, the cost of renting a bike on orcas for a single day is $115. Kayaks rent for $25.00 an hour. Those two amenities alone add over a $1,000 in value with just a few days of use!
We look forward to providing you with a great island vacation.

We wanted to be next to the ocean and we were very happy sitting on the deck with coffee. We had plenty of room for four of us after our daughter and granddaughter joined us for one night. We didn’t get to see any orcas but the morning and evening skies were wonderful. Larry responded quickly to any questions that we had. Thank you for the lovely stay.
On a lovely cove with easy pebble beach access, an exceptionally relaxing location with a perfect covered porch. Perfectly located within a quick drive to the grocery stores, bookstores and retailers in Eastsound.
We had a wonderful time. The property is gorgeous and you can't beat the view. Spent time kayaking down the coast and cooking at the house after a day spent out exploring. It was a little chilly in the evenings so we used the fireplace quite a bit. Very easy to use and made for many cozy evenings. This place has lots to take advantage of! Wish we could have stayed longer!
The owners are very nice. I know the amenities weigh into the high price point of this vrbo. But with such a high price point, the amenities should be VERY good. The row boat is missing the pins that hold the oars in place (and they were missing last year we were came too). This makes rowing the boat almost impossible. The hammock was broken before we arrived. The steps leading down to the beach are very overgrown. Both times we visited, it just left us very disappointed considering how much we paid for this trip. .
We spent the last leg of our San Juan Island Honeymoon here and it was just perfect. Very comfortable house with amazing views and outdoor seating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is so close to town for eating and shopping. Also close to hiking at Moran State Park. We swam in lakes and in the ocean. Took advantage of the hot tub and playing games. While the house would comfortably fit 4 more folks, it is perfect for couples. The hosts were very easy to work with. While you’ll find many rules and the need to sign a contract, it makes sense to keep the peace with the residents. Truly magical space!
This is a gem of a property with everything that you could want in a vacation rental. The owners were responsive and attentive to our needs. The bikes that they had for us were excellent and well maintained! If you are lucky enough to get the dates you want do not pass this one up!,
The location is wonderful. We enjoyed our trip a lot.
We just came back from a week stay at this property and overall it was a great rental. The location absolutely can't be beat. Nothing better than waking up to the sunrise over the water and watching all kinds of wildlife from the porch. The owners also provided a lot of fun recreational options - kayaks, bikes, ping pong etc which was nice. There was a fire ban in progress so we couldn't use the fire pit outside but that couldn't be helped. In terms of the house itself things were a little more rustic than I thought they would be. There was a fireplace in the main living area that didn't work and I was under the impression that it had an insert that I assumed would look like a fire but it ended up just a little dinky electric plug in log set that just glowed. Also, the decor felt a bit dated and needs to be freshened up a bit. Towels, sheets, blankets felt old and a little musty. Plus, it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but in a vacation rental you don't want to be staring at family photos on the walls. It made me a bit uncomfortable like I was crashing in a strangers house. Again, location can't be beat and that's really what we were there for. Orcas is definitely the best of the San Juans in my opinion and we would go back in a heartbeat.
Larry and Michelle are such gracious hosts (and also very fun conversationalists)! The place is pure magic, with an interesting history and stellar views. We saw loads of wildlife, including a curious mink! We were a group of family and friends and had an absolute blast on the kayaks and sitting outside enjoying the super-relaxed vibe. This was our second stay here and we are already planning/hoping for a third! By far our best VRBO experience ever. Thanks, Larry and Michelle!
Rustic cabin with a great view!
