Stanardsville, Virginia
The Monroe House at Mulberry Springs is a historic two-story Colonial residence (c. 1750's) situated in a picturesque complex of barns, guest cottages, and outbuildings on 15.4 rolling acres. The perfect getaway for a family or pair of couples.
Mulberry Spring Farm dates back to Colonial Virginia. The Mainhouse is a “two over two” style farmhouse built on hand-hewn heart pine beams over a dry-laid foundation. The house was slated for demolition in the 1950's. Fortunately, a retired military couple who appreciated its significance, bought it and lovingly invested in major restorations. Two subsequent owners continued the restoration process both to the house and property. Numerous fruit trees were planted and a local stonemason was hired to rebuild the rock foundations and the 200-year old stone walls.
Mulberry Spring is a charming, unique home located in a mountainside neighborhood.
The layout of the house is spacious and comfortable. The first floor consists of a living room, dining room, library/TV room, fully equipped eat-in kitchen, laundry room, and full bath with a shower. There are two staircases to access the second floor. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and one full bath with a claw-foot tub with a hand-held shower head. For safety and structural reasons guest are not permitted to walk out onto the porch upstairs. Attics are also off limits.
This place was incredible! The house , it’s history, and it’s beautiful natural setting!! We relaxed in the morning watching birds and bumblebees from the front porch rocking chairs! The front porch provided us with peace and serenity we haven’t felt in a few years. Do yourself a favor and book a few extra days with nothing planned to just enjoy the porch and the land. We cannot wait to go back!!
We had such a nice time staying there and being so close to Charlottesville and the beautiful fall foliage, we had such a wonderful time!
The property was just as listed. Lovely restored Colonial farmhouse but with modern conveniences. We had a fun weekend touring some local wineries and area restaurants. Whitney was very responsive to any questions we had. We had a wonderful stay.
Perfectly clean and inviting. Enjoyed our stay. Easy 30 minute drive to Charlottesville.
Nice
The place was exactly as advertised. We enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic weekend getaway
This is a comfortable old farmhouse that has the structural characteristics of an old house, such as distinct rooms (not an open floor plan) and settling (back stairs were not level). The house had a wonderfully large front porch and the star gazing was amazing as there is no light pollution on the property. The formal living room and dining room are quite large, but there is a smaller den with a TV and seating for 5 and a dining table off the kitchen that seats 5-6 comfortably. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful time. The house was spacious enough for 7 of us and the grounds were very beautiful, especially with so many plants in bloom. We visited Monticello and Charlottesville.
What a gorgeous setting for this home stay. It has a huge yard in both the front and back, a large porch to sit on and much more. It is close to towns if you want to go, but we rarely ventured out.
