Albuquerque, New Mexico
Lots to see and do this time of year in and around Albuquerque! Come explore, peruse, hike, write, dine, or just sit still someplace shady and watch that New Mexico sky. See below for more ideas.
Enjoy the glamor and Southwestern charm of this old, territorial style home. The Old Town House in the museum district is an authentic adobe, built c. 1902. Directly cross the street from Tiguex Park, and about a block from the center of historic Old Town Plaza, the location is unmatched. With original wood floors, beamed ceilings, and foot thick walls, this house evokes the romance of the Old West, and is a fantastic base for your Albuquerque adventures.
Three bedrooms and two baths accommodate 6 (2 queen beds and 1 full bed, as well as a sleeper sofa in the living room, which adds flexibility in sleeping arrangements). The en suite master bath features a claw foot tub, the second bedroom has a gas kiva fireplace, and soft lighting is achieved in all three bedrooms with chandeliers. An open floor plan connects the living room and kitchen. All kitchen appliances are stainless. An adjoining sitting room (with its own gas kiva fireplace) allows views of the park through a side lit French door. The dining room seats 6 comfortably. There is off street parking for two vehicles parked in tandem (for example, a large pickup and regular sized sedan will both fit).
The back yard patio area is equipped with three bistro tables and six chairs, as well as a charcoal grill.
This is a great place for a girls' weekend. It serves well as a retreat for writing projects. With the fireplaces, clawfoot tub, and location near the plaza, it works nicely for a romantic getaway. Walking distance to the Hotel Albuquerque, Hotel Chaco, and the new Sawmill Market, and only a short distance from the Convention Center, it makes an excellent base from which to attend area conferences. With the park across the street, the Explora! museum across the park, and plenty for families to do nearby, this house also works well as a base for families looking to take a break, while including some science, art, history, outdoor activity and fun.
My staff is using best practices for cleaning in accordance with the NM Safe program.
Here are things to Do in Albuquerque:
Check out the Albuquerqueoldtown and the visitalbuquerque sites to see upcoming events.
Here are a few of local restaurants of note (there are many other fabulous ones in Old Town, and throughout Albuquerque, but these are some of my favorites):
Blackbird Coffee in the Patio Market - kind of a secret garden vibe. They are on FB, and are located a short walk west of the house in the courtyard on the southeast side of the Plaza.
The St. Claire Winery and Bistro - great food, often live music, and local New Mexico wines. About a five minute drive (with traffic).
Church St. Cafe - near the Place - New Mexican cuisine with several beautiful, interesting seating areas, including a lovely one outside.
High Noon - near the Plaza - In one of the oldest adobes in town. Great food.
Seasons - within walking distance - upscale, great food, good service.
Golden Crown Panederia - Bakery which gets rave reviews in my guest book.
Remedy Coffee - Less than a 10 minute walk to Lomas. Pretty little patio and also a generously sized back room with a kiva fireplace.
Slow Burn Coffee - a 15 minute walk east on Mountain Rd. Great coffee!
Flying Star - About a 10 minute drive north on Rio Grande. In the summer, the shaded patio is particularly lovely. In cooler months, the patio also has a fireplace.
There is also a Starbucks (with a fireplace) about 4 minutes away by car, or about a 15 minute walk.
My family truly enjoyed our stay over the Thanksgiving holiday. The house was lovely, clean, quiet, and close to so many of the things we wanted to do in Albuquerque.
The property was very convenient, clean and well supplied with everything we needed. The location within walking distance to Old Town was perfect and easy access to the highway for further adventures.
Great location! Perfect for anyone who wants to visit Old Town, museums & the Biopark attractions.
This wonderful casita is a treasure. Beautifully decorated, warm and inviting spaces and a wonderful fenced yard. Everything we needed was here, making for an easy move in. The owner was terrific! Responsive to all my inquiries and so accommodating with our reservation. Highly recommend!
This house is a comfortable older adobe house located right across the street from a park and just a couple of blocks from the old town . It does have a swamp cooler for cooling and the thick adobe walls do keep it generally cool ( but not as cold as AC). Older TV, great internet and a nice kitchen for simpler meals. Very comfortable beds and nice places to sit and lounge.
Issue was quickly resolved and thanks for that but we were not able to access the keybox for access that and poor cell service on my phone meant we had to decamp to a nearby Starbucks and WiFi necessary to communicate with the owner, success the updated code was provided and we quickly gained entry. I would recommend using keyless entry as the door lock. Still we enjoyed our stay. Old Town ABQ is indeed a special place that made our stay very enjoyable. Thanks!
The house was exactly like the photos. Very comfortable and spacious with a great location. The park across the street was enjoyable and great for morning walks.
The owner of this property has beautifully respected the historic details and integrated modern conveniences into the home. Also, the location was perfect for us. We loved everything about our stay here.
If you want 100 year old home with character then this is your place. Home shows its age but that is part if the charm
This beautiful historic adobe was perfect for myself, my partner and brother during a multi-week family visit. The kitchen and bathrooms have been updated and we cooked many meals, including having other family over for dinner. Being from Albuquerque, we appreciated that all of the historic aspects of the home have been preserved and that the updates were not attempts to replicate existing fixtures, but contextual and not overdone. The bathrooms were lovely with lots of storage and the beds were very comfortable. The owner was very helpful and communicative as were the property maintenance folks who checked in before coming over for regular services. The home is adjacent to Old Town with dedicated parking and the location could not be better. It was an absolute joy to stay in this historic adobe and we now have a beautiful memory from our time spent together here.
You can't beat this place for location, especially with kids. The park, museums, and aquarium are all in walking distance. We had a great stay. Thank you!
We were six adults, very comfortable in the house, loved the location. The house was clean and well-cared for and had a lot of charm.
Convenient to Old Town, a nice grocery store, and the freeways. This is a very nicely updated adobe across from the park and museums and a couple of blocks from the Old Town Plaza. No central heat, so took a bit to heat it up in the cold, winter weather but stayed warm and cozy after the first day. Traveling on business, and this place was much more enjoyable than 4 nights in a hotel.
It's exactly what we wanted on our trip to New Mexico. This 100 year old Pueblo is full of charm with all the modern comforts. We did have an issue with the hot water not working the first evening but Carol and her property manager addressed it right away the next day. Old Town was a very short walk. We would definitely come back.
It was wonderful to be in such a beautiful, historic property. We will seek it out again!
The owner is an excellent communicator with responsive local management, which makes resolving issues easy. The location is very convenient, within walking distance to Old Town and a very good restaurant, Cocina Azul. The house is as described and is in a quiet neighborhood. The beds are comfortable and having fans available was helpful to getting good sleep since we couldn’t open windows. It is a great place to stay and I would definitely want to stay there again.
Balloon festival goers, this is the perfect spot! You are within walking distance from the Old Town Square, and to lots of fun restaurants and parks. This home was comfortable, clean and offered all the comforts of home! Highly recommend!
Fantastic
Nice property! Excellent location. Perfect for our girls get away! We love ABQ.
We loved our stay at the Old Adobe House. It felt great to be inside of an authentic and historic house. We got the old feel, yet modern amenities (a/c, washer dryer, etc) made for great comfort. Excellent location next to park, museums and old town plaza where I walked less than a block in the morning for my Chai from Black Bird Cafe. We were a family of 5 (3 kids age ranging from 5-12) and everyone loved everything about house and yard. Carol was very responsive and helpful in helping us extend our stay (as everyone wanted the trip to continue). Her instructions for everything we're thorough and her home manual listed great local stores for all the needs of our stay. We will return for future trips!
Many VRBO homes compete to overwhelm their guests with flashy style, artistic drywall, and fanciful dollar store knickknacks that say 'welcome', but are really only Instagram props. The Old Town House however, is one of the few houses that made our group immediately want to sit down, explore, and be comfortable. There is an appeal to a 110-year old traditional adobe: straw-pocked walls, hewn lintels, deep windows, private bedrooms. Some may call it charm, but the home wants its guests to have a cool sangria at the large communal table or to watch the cool of the stars from its patio. The house is located facing Tiguex park, a calm place for early morning walks or later evening relaxation. A quiet neighborhood of large lots complements a relaxed, private feel for guests. Privacy, is however combined with a convenient, central location. Old Town Plaza, with restaurants and attractions are only 800 feet away. Museums, the Albuquerque Biopark, and shopping are all within a 15 minute walk. Parking on site along with convenient access to the Airport means the Old Town House is an ideal base for exploring central New Mexico. Care has been taken by the hosts in providing an open, warm, welcoming home. A large, open-space kitchen and dining room make end of the day meals and conversations a pleasure. The hosts have provided a well equipped kitchen for cooking (or reheating) meals, barbecuing, or just lazing away in a large armchair. At night, thick adobe walls and separate bedrooms and bathrooms assure privacy and make this perfect for two couples. A unique experience!
